I didn't find a topic like this in here, so, yeah.

Cloud:
Cloud...was my mage. Laugh, but after Aeris bites the dust, Cloud has the highest natural magic stat. (Atleast, I think...could be Nanaki/Red XIII) I did use him as a melee fighter, but his magic was probably what I used most.

Cid:
I'm pretty sure he or Barret has the highest natural Strength in the game- I'm not sure. But I just liked Cid better. Pretty much a pure melee fighter.

Yuffie:
I originally didn't start using her till I began using Morph, but once I did she became one of my main characters. She was a backrow fighter and a backup mage.

FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver.

My first two characters are almost always the same and the third i switch it up occasionally

Cloud - obviously you have to use cloud i would normally use him as an all around character hes pretty well balanced

Cid - powerhouse, not too much magic with this guy

Vincent - Vincent is alright, his limits are pretty lame though would be a lot better if you could actually control him. I mainly use him just because he is a dope character all dark and mysterious.

I think in the long run the best party would probably be Cloud, Barret, and Tifa/Cid their final limits are all multi hitters and do some serious damage.

One thing i never figured out though is cid's highwind attack, what kind of attack is it, magic or phys?

I coulda' sworn a similar topic existed, but anyway, my usual/favorite party is:

Cloud: You don't stray from him for too long, but not only is he a necessity throughout most of the game, I like his character and personality, especially after he "finds himself". From a combat perspective, he's an all-around character for me; physical, magic offense/defense, healer, and summoner with awesome limits.

Tifa: I have a soft spot for romantics and she and Cloud have a close bond. She's my primary physical attacker and I think her limits are one of the best in the game 'cuz who else has a chance to use all of their limits all in a row? As for magic, I limit her only to support magics for the party and summons when the going gets real tough.

Red XIII: My favorite character in the game. I love his personality, his insight into the game's events, and his backstory (I couldn't help but wear a BIG smile during his scene with his father). In battle, he's primarily my mage; Black, White, support, and Summon magic. I also give him mastered enemy skill materia 'cuz that's my favorite FF ability, so I give my favorite ability to my favorite character, plus Cosmo Memory is pretty neat and a good damage-dealer.

i went with Cid, Vincent, and Cloud. I didn't choose them due to their abilities, but instead their personalities. Cid is a badass kinda guy, which is always fun to have, Vincent is mysterious and sorrowful, (i played DoC first, really liked Vincent in that), and Cloud is the main guy, so no choice there. I did use barret some as well, but once i had all the others, there was no need.

Cloud (Um... yeah.. give me a choice? no? ok)

Tifa (I always kept the love story going, even in battle)

I did a swap with Vincent, Cid and Barret, depending where I was. There is a point in the game (The big creater) where I use anyone who has multiple growth weapons.. Cloud's Apocalypse (Triple), Tifa's Powersoul (Double), Cid's Scimitar (Triple) and venture to the creater area where it looks "swampy" and ventured on the back area where you can pop in and out of these glowing holes (glow once you enter and emerge out of the other end) to encounter enemies with good earnings... you'll see Best spot to gain easy, hands down.

Favorate characters though, Cloud, Tifa, Cid, Vincent.

Neglected characters, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Yuffie, Aeris (some disagree to do this, but I have the obvious reasons to do so)

In my first playthrough, I used Red XIII and Cid throughout the whole game, just because of sheer awesomeness.

Now, I usually switch around with Cid, Tifa, and Barret, just because Tifa and Barret were totally ignored in my last game.

My Party is always:

Cloud, Red XIII and Tifa. But before i always used Cloud,Cid and Barret.

at the moment my groups

cloud: with his triple growth and rune armlet 1 because i want master summon and 2 cos he dont really need to be any stronger

yuffie (at the moment): with her conformer because iam building stats so need her for morphing but also her with mega all and morph combined with steal aswell makes rich pickings

cid : also with his triple growth and rune armlet

Cloud, Red, and Barret.

Cloud just because.

Red because he's my favorite character as far as storyline, personality, and quotes go.

Barret because he has awesome Limit Breaks, and like Red, he has a good personality and knack for delivering good lines.

I thought there was a topic like this as well... meh, but this is from my latest playthrough which I didnt get around to finish and it's been awile. I did have another playthrough before it though, with Cloud, Vincent, and Cid but I forget the setup.

So my latest playthrough:

Cloud - He was my summoner, and the last thing I remember on this playthrough was getting Omni-Slash. He also had stuff like Double Cut.

Vincent - My mage / healer, for some reason I always seen him as it, but his health does go down quite a bit from all of it, so HP+ to the rescue.

Tifa - She had a bit of everything IIRC, mostly dealing with some spare summons, a bit of magic, and some healing. I did equip her with death blow and Enemy-Skill materia but otherwise she was physical.

I usually make most of my chracters balanced.
My party consists of Cloud, Barret, I like him, and finally Tifa or Yuffie. I think they're both good, but Yuffie's downfall are her limit breaks. Although I try not to go on limits as they're only bonus attacks to me and not part of my strategy.

Generally though, Cloud attacks, Tifa/Yuffie heals and Barret also attacks with the occasional support enemy skill in there too.

In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't.

I have

Cloud with Ultima Weapon and 6 HP Up materias, Ultima, Cure1-2-3 combined with All and Enemy Skill (Which has Shadow Flare and Pandora's box) and W-Item too

Vincent has a few MP Ups, Phoenix, Hades, Bahumet Zero combined with Added Cut and Comet1-2 combined with Quadra Magic

Finally I have Cid with Mime, Life1-2 with All combined, Bio1-2-3 with All combined and Neo Bahumet

Cloud:

He was my red mage I guess you could say. I used him mainly for melee, but if my other two mages dies (Yes, all three party members used materia AND THEY LIKED IT), he was a good back up.

Vincent: He mainly handled the healing materia, because him and cloud were my highest leveled characters. He was also another strong melee for me, so he lasted forever and could heal if he wanted.

Tifa/Cid:

Once again, good melee with magic, but these guys were more melee, less magic. They handled the black magic materia, which I only reallly used if they had high physical defense or if it was a boss.

I basically kept a really balanced party whose materia I could switch out when leveling up other characters (You never know when Cait Sith will come in handy.)

Cloud, my materia dude
Cid, my defensive dude
Red, my all around best attacker

i use cloud and aeris.
If i can't use aeris, i use hack to bring her back >__>
I dunno about weapons, but for other parts, playing with 2 characters have no problem in FFVII (but then aeris's limit breaks are hax ><)

Aeris was contantly in my party before she died, her limits are awesome.

Yuffie is cool, i think she is really kewl and i love the sidequest and her attacks.

i change my last party member often as i cant really choose, i dont like barret that much, hardly ever use him.

WTF?!

I was always Cloud,Barret and Red until i unlocked Vincent and now i always use Cloud, Barret and Vincent purely as Vincents limit can really come in handy in difficult battles as he can cure himself against certain enemies so at least i win the battle with on charcter if the other 2 die.

Tifa- shes aesthetically pleasi.....shes a good character? but seriously, im really good at her slots...cait sith not so much
