Has anyone seen the new artwork for the DS version of this game? What about the gameplay images? Am I the only one impressed?

Overall I can't wait to play this remake of a remake, of a remake of my favorite standard RPG FF adventure.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is a US release date yet... but there is a Japanese release date!

US: Unreleased
Japan: Winter 2007

Winter '07 would lead me to predict a Spring '08 release for us in the West.

Yeah... the UK really drew the short straw in terms of video gaming release dates. Heck... you still never got one of the Chrono games, right?

Here's to hoping you don't have to wait THAT long for FFIV. Maybe importing is an option?

The game looks kind of cool...I was just about to buy the GBA remake but now I'll wait for this one only if it keeps some of the extras the remake had (like being able to use certain characters again).

That music was amazing. Uematsu really outdid himself there.

Anyway, this game looks awesome. I've never played IV before, so I might actually be more excited if I had played this but... I'm getting this game. :D

I'm a little worried about the Voice Acting. FFX had bad voice acting. FFXII had good voice action. Since these are characters I've known for more than ten years, a bad voice could break one of the characters, although I will never accept a bad voice as canon, even if Square says it is.

I reserve the right to describe what I think the characters should sound like.
Cecil: Like Russel Crowe's character in Gladiator
Kain: In a Gary Oldman type British accent
Rydia: Very sweet, but tough and determined American accent
Tellah: British or American old man
Edward: Sounds like an elfish accent; think Legolas
Rosa: Very sweet and ladylike. American or British
Yang: Chinese or Indian accent; Engrish is forbidden
Palom: Very mischevious Kindergarten accent. Think Err from Aqua Teen Hunger Force (and God help Square if they cast a woman as Palom). Accent can be British as well, kind of like what Fred and George Weasley would sound like if they were kindergarteners
Porom: MUST be British and proper
Cid: Yorkshire or Scottish
Edge: Needs to sound like a cowboy
FuSoYa: See Tellah
Golbez: Something very evil and scary sounding

Oh, and Here's another scan.

Complete remakes are definitely very risky, and the addition of voice acting could be the riskiest part of all. And even if it sounds great in Japanese, how will the English one sound? If the English voice acting's bad, due to poor translation and/or bad voices, then the criticism sent Square's way will make all the 13+ years of criticism sent Ted Woolsey's way for FF III seem downright positive.

In fact, whichever poor sucker has to translate this game might as well get used to being the new Ted Woolsey.

Rydia and Yang look amazing.

As for voice acting...I'd prefer they have no voices at all. To be honest, in a game like this, it seems a little awkward to me.

--------------------
FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver.

Maybe not awkward, but I, too, prefer games with no voice acting. See FFIX ;)

Hmm... Old Rydia's mugshot used to annoy me for some reason. The new 3D version looks far better.

I'm unlikely to get this. By the time it comes out over here, I'll have to start thinking about saving for uni or some other important crap. Besides, it's a remake of my least favourite Final Fantasy (out of all the ones I've played, mind. I haven't had the misfortune to play FFVIII or FFX-2), and no matter how cool the graphics are (kinda like a better-looking version of the FFVII models, if you ask me), I don't think I'll pay £30 for it.

Although the new character renders are gonna be great for sigs. smile.gif

A list of a bunch very particular accents and voice timbres.

That's just setting yourself up for disappointment. When you have tastes and preferences that specific for an upcoming game, you're almost guaranteed to dislike what eventually comes out. If you make your own wishlist of what you want in any upcoming game and put too much stock into it, then no game could meet those expectations.

But yes, back on topic. Rydia and Yang's new looks? HOT.

So have we all seen this interesting little vid? Specifically, the last 15 or so seconds?

I've but one way to describe my reaction to it:

...Why do I think I hear Auld Lang Syne there in the background? Is it Hogmanay an nae fud telt me?!

I mean, yeah, Rosa and Cecil run aboot the braes, but...

Anyway, back on topic. Intresting video. Might need to buy me a DS now. And if they fail to release it in Europe, I will napalm their houses.

Also, with reference to an above post, just say no to Tartan Cid. But what about Geordie? Or Scouse?

the problem with that is, then when i play it on the road, i'll have to do the voice acting myself. which does cause a little bit of an... er, distrubance.

i also went into a fit when i saw the transformation in the most recent vid.

The site has been updated. There's a new movie from the Tokyo Game Show, and two new entries in the character section.

subtitled, or not, those movies are awesome.

More importantly, going to the offical FF IV DS site which is linked somewhere above lets you look at character profiles (all in japanese of course) but they have images of the characters how they'll look in game, as well as the CG versions. Personally, I was surprised at how much they made rydia look like a green haired version of Yuna, but whatev... and Cecil looks loads better as a paladin than he does as a dark knight. Why? Flowing garments. When a game like IV is updated the way they're doing, you realize, there was no comfort to the dark knight costume. If he really was sacrificing life to make attacks stronger, it's only because the metallic uber wedgie he had was cutting into him. tongue.gif

SWEET.

I think I'm okay with voice acting now, though I do think Golbez's field model doesn't look quite evil enough. I was also pretty surprised to hear lyrics added to the Theme of Love...

Awesome job Ronin, thanks for supplying us with all the subbed trailers!

I came across this the other day and I was completely blown away.

This game alone makes me wish I had a DS. This looks so impressive and brings back such nostalgia that I wanna play the original one again.

THE CGI's of Rydia, Cecil turning into a Paladin, and Rosa were so unbelievably cool, not to mention anything that shows Kain, redone or not, is all sorts of awesome.

EDIT: Had a link but someone already posted.
