i just watched the entire series, and man, it is great. now im gonna have to wait a week in order to see the movie on my favorite, FFVIII. its a shame: i think they should have done a seperate movie for VIII and IX, but no complaints. it really reminded me of why i love these games so much.

Not its spin-offs, though.

what about DoC? i thought that was great. the entire story of vincent valentine was brilliant. shooters like that aren't exactly my type of game, but hey, its just like vagrant story, which turned out great.

I really enjoyed FFVI and VIII's installments. I like how they didn't seem biased towards any of the games.

It seems a little odd that they completely left out Advent Children. Maybe they only wanted to focus on the games?

And I think the reason that they're combining FFVIII and IX is to show how different the games' purposes were; one to bring more realism and depth into the series, and the other to bring the series back to its roots. It still seems pretty funky though, if this is a 13 episode series, why are we just now going on part 6? tongue.gif

They mentioned in the forum post that the ydidn't have the rights to show footage from AC. To do so would have required written permission from Square-whatever branch is that made AC.
So far, I have really enjoyed the series. A very thourough analysis of each game in a comparatively short time. Since I've been playing a lot of X recently, i'm looking forward to that episode, though they'll probably couple it with X-2. XII's I probably won't watch, for fear of spoiling one of the few FF's I haven't played.

Awesome vid! It was nostalgic for me to look back at the first two games in the series that I played.

the latest installment was great, just like all the others. the two games that have the least in common... next week my first FF game, FFX. (of course, along with its terrible sequel)

The latest part made me want to replay IX... even though I was already in the middle of a playthrough. Of course, it's a level 1 game, so maybe I should start a normal game as well.

...Or better yet, play through the entire series!... but I don't have VIII, and can't afford it right now, so that won't work...

Watch Dawson's Creek listening to My Chemical Romance for 60 hours. Much the same effect. Make sure to scream "ORPHANS!!" about midway through, TIME KOMPRESSION about three quarters, and to weep at how you just wasted sixty hours when it's all over.

Alternatively, save up whilst playing in two-hour bursts. By the time you have reached seven's ending, you will have eight. Or be forty. Whichever comes first.

FFVIII is a great game, kinda ignore the biast opinion of CoN for this one. Read a review or two, not related to CoN. (only a couple of us seem to like it)

Hmm, I actually never played VIII or IX...still, the retrospective is making me want to.

Anyways, can't wait for Part VII. While I didn't enjoy X-2 that much, X is definitely one of my favourite FFs.

FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver.

It should be interesting, even though I've still yet to beat FFX (I wanna' try to get Anima, the Magus Sisters, and Yojimbo first) and I won't be caught dead havin' X-2 within my PS2.

I Like X-2. Even though it took me 6 play throughs to get all the jobs. And that game is Impossible to get 100% without a Walkthrough.

X-2 does have its good points - it has very nice menus, for one.

...

OK, that's all I got. But back on topic - I just caught up with the most recent episodes of this and I was impressed, again. The Metroid Retrospective just came out with part four, and it talks about Zero Mission and Fusion. Good stuff.

I did enjoy the Job system, even if it was...er...oddly renamed. Thing is though, V just did it better.

that's the only part i liked. i hadn't even heard of FFV at the time, of course. as soon as i did, i ditched X-2 all together. course, in X-2, they have the oddest looking costumes. and i don't really approve of all their 'happy ending' ties for some of the characters.

I personally think they didn't say much about X's plot...but, otherwise, another great episode of the retrospective.

Good stuff. I've gotten as far as after the battle with Lady Yunalesca and am attempting some mini-games like the monster arena, dodging lighttning , and catching butterflies among others before progressing the story, so I've still yet to beat, but I'm motivated now to give it a go!

I have no desire to go through X-2, but it was to nice it's story and place within the FF genre. I'll be lookin' forward to their take on XI, another game I've never played.

They made little mention of the Al Bhed and their language, and they didn't say anything about machina either. They also completely left out Yevon as a religion.

I'm excited to see Part VIII. I don't know very much about XI, and learning about an online FF game seems pretty exciting.

i don't know anything about FFXI, and since im debating on buying a next-gen system, i might start looking into it, since i don't plan on getting internet for my good ol' PS2.

My brother picked up FFXI, but returned it after he found out there's a price (monthly?) per character. I forgot whether it was an online-only game and it was for the PC. I've considered pickin' it up for either the PC or PS2, but I'm savin' money for FFXII.

I'm getting a bad feeling FFT won't get the attention it deserves in the next episode. sad.gif

But, as usual, Episode VIII was very infromative and entertaining. It was nice to learn about one of the few games in the series I had very little information about.

What is this other "Action" game? FFT, FFTA, FFXII, and... ?
Also, how are they going to fill up 13 retrospectives?
The only thing I can think of is...
10: Gameboy games
11: Mystic Quest and Crystal Chronicles
12: Chocobo's Dungeon
13: Overall summary?

Part VIII was interesting. I never picked up FFXI simply becuase in addition to the retail value, you have to pay per character. Now, I never use more than one character in MMORPGs I've played, but I'm under the impression that like the Phantasy Star Online games, is it online only? If I do buy FFXI, I know I'm gonna' have to buy the expansions!

I'm looking forward to the world of Ivalice in the next part, but I fear that Samurai Bob may be right, but I hope you're not. After I take care of some debts, I WILL buy FFXII, but it probably won't be 'til close to X-Mas time at the very latest.
