He will randomly attack whenever you are flying. AFAIK, there is no specific position, and it is completely random.

Just keep flying around with the Falcon until you meet Doom Gaze at the world map. I've heard from several hackers that everytime you are seen back in the world map, Doom Gaze changes his position randomly at the skies and if you fly the airship into his current area, you'll get in a fight with him. You also get another esper after beating him.

Don't cast Vanish+Doom/X-Zone on him. I'm just telling you this.

Because you won't get the Bahamut magicite.

No, you just won't receive the esper that way. The "Vanish+Doom/X-Zone" thing is an ingame glitch in the SNES original and PSX remake. So it's best to just whip out your best attacks on him.

Unless you're playing the GBA version, it makes almost every boss vulnerable to instant death with "Vanish" spell. And Doom/X-Zone are both instant-kill spells.

FWIW Vanish + Doom is fine on Doom gaze, but Vanish + X-Zone is not. (Excluding GBA of course)

To add a bit of information I've heard from various sources (I can't remember whom) around CoN:

+ Doom Gaze is not undead; Doom can kill it if it can hit it.
+ Your receiving the Bahamut magicite is a direct consequence of Doom Gaze's death animation.
+ Vanish+Doom works to kill Doom Gaze and get the Bahamut magicite because Doom Gaze goes through its death animation.
+ Vanish+X-Zone doesn't produce the magicite because the death animation is skipped.

Additionally, I remember reading that Vanish+X-Zone causes Doom Gaze to actually move to another spot on the map, and regain full HP, so that the Bahamut magicite isn't actually lost forever, but the barrier between you and the magicite is reset to its original state (i.e., full HP and unknown map location). Someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong, and confirm me on this if I'm right.

All you have to do is Fly around in the Falcon for a Minute or Two. Then you''ll find DoomGaze. And you dont have to use the Vanish/Doom trick.

It's not so much tied to his death animation as it is a 'final attack' Doomgaze is unable to perform. GMH got everything else figured out, though smile.gif

For some trivia, the Overworld map has 4096 tiles, and Doomgaze possesses two adjecent tiles. I always hated hunting the thing...

The minimap has 4096 pixels, but it's 1/4 scale of the world map, which has 256x256 walkable tiles (ie, 65536.)

Considering DG occupies a 2x2 block of tiles though, that's statistically, though not technically, correct. wink.gif You could still cover 65532 tiles before finding him with the airship, so it's not quite the same.

Still, details, details. Don't mind me. laugh.gif

This may be kind of a silly question but did anyone notice the bestiary in the PSx version calls Doomgaze "dethdaze" and actually calls one of Kefka's statues Doomgaze. Doomgaze is a wuss, he always runs away like 10 times before I can kill him but this time I accidentally learned Aero from him so it was cool, I guess.

who didn't see that one coming? leave it to silverlance laugh.gif

as discussed in the other thread, just fly randomly around. depressing as it is, its all you can do. i just held the controls down so that i would fly in a diagonal line, turned the volume up, and read a book. as soon as you enter battle, the music will change, so that would signal me to stop reading. i did the same type of thing once leveling up got boring...
