Favorite storyline character except Ramza. So who was it, T.G. Cid? Musty? Agreis?

Personally, there was only one I couldn't live without, Beuwolf and all his crazy ass staus changing swords. He made every fight easier

Come on 27 veiws and no response? Was I the only one who loved the story line?

I know all you FFVII fans loved Cloud being in there.

Another favorite of mine was Worker 8 even though he was horrible in a fight, just his attacks and that they actually hurt you to perform them brought a new deminsion to the fight.

I'm just tryin to liven up the forums cause I'm so pumped about the game, so anybody?

Hah, yes!

No, I only speak for myself, but I thought the story was awful from the middle to end, not because the ideas were bad, but because the translation made it dang near incomprehensible.

I'm psyched about the PSP version and the new translation.

Anyway, on topic, I'd say I enjoyed Agrias quite a bit. Fun, tough, powerful, but not so powerful that the game became just pointless to play (I'm looking at you Cid and Beowulf).

I think Cloud with his limit breaks and short charge is the most fun to me, plus he looks the coolest because he's Cloud...

Delita is the coolest. Outside that, I give props to the ever-powerful Wiegraf and Zalbag.

I think Izlude is really cool too - I pretty much like his whole family. Even Vormav. I also like Kletian even though he doesn't speak at all except right before the battle with him.

Be honest. The translation was bad, but it was not anywhere near so bad or so frequent that anyone would have trouble following the storyline.

My favorite character is Mustadio.

JLV - yeah, I've read them too. did you know they change from chapter to chapter depending on the events? Elmdor has a pretty cool backstory.

Yeah, I saw that guy's post too and was thinking the exact same thing. The only bad translations are in propositions and fights (let's have it out here!)...saying the translation is incomprehensible is just ridiculous.

If you need to exclude Ramza then the only one would be Delita.

Best cool looking character would be Worker 8 and Cloud as well as Mustadio.

I always had a soft spot for Agrias myself tongue.gif that and the dragon girl...who's name i forget...

and the translation was admittedly pretty bad, but the plot was not too obscured, you just have to pay alot of attention as the plot is VERY complex, and yeah reading up on the background that's provided in game helps ALOT especially if you're confused as to the nobles and clergy, the thing that really got lost in the translation was the relations between the characters, the lines were very artificial in translation, the japanese version is great but giving me a hell of a time since they all speak old style and with tons of keigo, so there's -nu ending and gozaimasens that are givin me a headache lol

My favorite main character? Tough choice, but Dycedarg Beoulve and Agrias Oaks would top the list, assuming we're excluding Ramza.

Agrias was what a true Paladin should be. Devoting her life to protect Princess Ovelia, then sticking with Ramza. I can never play through and leave her out of the final battle.

Dycedarg was the coolest villain. His Lune Knight class is pretty solid and as a character, he basically summed up what villainy is all about!

Did anyone ever use Rad or Alicia or what ever you get at the beginning of act two? I liked how Rad started as an Oracle but he was never that useful.

Actually, I've seen Rad start with a wide variety of abilities - it seems to be fairly random. Nonetheless, I rarely, if ever, use him, simply because by the time I reach chapter 2, I've already trained up the team I'm going to use for the rest of the game (heck, I generally achieve this before the first Sweegy Woods battle).

More on topic, though, I think my favorite main character would have to be Zalbag, simply because I really like the abilities held by his version of the Arc Knight class. Sure, they have the same effect as Knight abilities, but they have several advantages: They're ranged without having to equip a ranged weapon, they affect multiple panels, and they reduce stats by more than their Knight equivalents.

I liked using Rad, Lavian, and Alicia. As far as Rad is concerned, he started with a wide magic library, but being a Squire of low Faith and very little magic power, I never built him up in that path. I generally build him up in warrior classes.

I didn't say the translation was incomprehensible, I said the story was. And I said that because the story is. I don't want to have to piece together all of these ridiculous fragments to complete a story just because someone didn't take the time to make a proper translation.

I'm all for completing puzzles that are intended to be completed. This was an unitentional puzzle caused by a bad translation. That's unacceptable for a game supposedly released in English. I enjoy the gameplay, but the story is a big letdown in the structure department and I'm not going to apologize for it just because it's a "classic".

It seemed pretty clear to me that you were complaining about the translation being the weak link in the storytelling. Why, out of curiosity, did you delete your first post?

At any rate, if I misread you then sorry. You sound a bit worked up, and I'm not sure why. The story was one of the best pieces of storytelling in videogame history. Call that opinion if you want, but it is popular opinion. Translation was garbled in spots, yes, but those few spots in no meaningful way detracted from the effectiveness of the story or it's progression.

Maybe you could point out the specific parts of the story that you felt were so mistranslated that you had to "piece it together" on your own? If you want to PM your reply to me, we can continue the discussion in private, as it seems we've derailed the thread enough as it is. happy.gif

Caught in a tsunami of fate, destiny, and determination? I default to the ever-awesome
Ramza, but Delita would be my next favourite character.

I like Balmafula cause she had a cool sprite. I was disappointed you couldnt recruit her though. :no:and if she is not main enough for a character well then Beowulf is practically a God and Byblios is cool.

Hmm...Delita, and Agrias comes as a close second. Delita was arguably the most ambitious character in the game, and even though Agrias has no story involvement after Chapter 2, I thought she was pretty cool.

FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver.

Gafgarion is simply awesome. Fun, Bastard, Bad, and simply STRONG. Deadly in every occasion, his Dark Knight Mercenary Status gave him fame and most importantly strenght. Confidential.
