If you pick the sword you will need to de-curse the cursed shield, wich could take a wile, in order to learn ultima. But if you do pick the sword ( it randomly casts flare) you could wager it at the colosseum to get the Illumina( wich is one of the strongest swords in the game).
If you pick the esper you don't need to de-curse the shield because the esper will teach you ultima and if you use it on an enemie, it could turn that enemie in an item. I would take the swords ( i always do) they are better then the esper(in my opinion). It isn't hard to de-curse the shield(equip a ribbon, trust me), just see it as a training ![]() -------------------- They may be monsters, but they're sea monsters. What're they gonna do? it isn't too hard to de-curse the sheild. i got the esper instead of the sword. actually, i never really used ragnarok esper. can you get any good items with it? i guess that would have to be the deciding factor for me.

Quote the sword alone is worth more than everything you can metamorph put together. don't bother with the esper Quote Get The Esper, its better than the sword. ![]() *Sigh* Generally, it's about even on the preferences. The Ragnarok sword can be traded for the Illumina, and Ultima can be learned from the Paladin Shield later on. Thus it is preferred to the Esper for the attack bonus. The Esper is taken because of the good items you can get from Morphing. You cane get more Exp. Eggs from enemies, Pod Bracelet, and you can get Ribbons. Also, as it's been said NUMEROUS times in the threads i previously linked to, it ends up being a matter of preference. |

Afaik, in the advance version it's possible to kill kefka as many times as you please, hence you can get unlimited illuminas, and the esper would be the natural choice.
If this is not a case, i'd go with it being a matter of preferrance. -------------------- All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Broccoli to die. |

You can steal a Ragnorak in Kefka's tower, in fact you can steal it at the tier just right before him.
