Hello, I am Florediorre who spent ages looking for the introduction section (just to feel 'official'). ^^;
I said this elsewhere. The first time I wanted to join this board was about two (or three?) years ago, but it seemed like there was a lot of members, and to be frank, I've never been good in a large circle of people. However, after recently replaying through FF6 for the trillionth time, I had the urge to find a related community. Most Final Fantasy sites revolve around 7-10 rather than their predecessors, so Caves of Narshe was one of the few options that remained. And so, it's nice to be here! Yay, I'm a Returner! -------------------- Random game quote of the day: "Wilt thou change this world... Or wilt thou change thyself?" (Water Dragon, Chrono Cross) |

Welcome, florediorre. I always thought "Returner" was an odd title for someone who's in their newest stage, but it's not my place to question.
If you, unlike a lot of members who come here and just post a couple times, stick around, you're sure to like it. -------------------- Squenix games completed: Final Fantasy: 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, Tactics Advance 2 Chrono Trigger Dragon Quest: 7, 8, 11 Super Mario RPG |

Indeed, thanks for joining us though you were mean to not do so before.
While we have quite a few members, most of them don't talk, so it's cool. Thank you for the friendly responses. =)
Quad, that is kind of true, but I still love being a Returner! And Ranger, I had a look at the competition yesterday and it looks very interesting; but since I don't know the staff members yet, it means that I would have a harder time guessing. That's just not pro- guessing In any case, happy 10th birthday! Does this mean that I joined up around the site's tenth anniversary? go me. Again, thanks everyone. -------------------- Random game quote of the day: "Wilt thou change this world... Or wilt thou change thyself?" (Water Dragon, Chrono Cross) |

BTW, I read in the "what games are you playing at the moment" topic that you've finished FF4 and are playing FF6 right now. I strongly recommend FF5 if you enjoy the SNES FF style and would enjoy a flexible character-class system along with it (a la FF3 or FFT). FF5 is also the origin of the blue mage, one of my favorite character classes... If you care about legality then go for the GBA version, but if you want to play the best version I recommend the translated SNES version.
Just my two cents' worth in a subforum that doesn't even add to postcount. And if you've already played FF5, sorry about making a big deal out of it. Speaking of FF5, though, I'm also open to recommendations for good SNES-era-style RPGs to play...I've so far got Lufia, Terranigma, the Phantasy Star games, and the Golden Sun games (in progress) on my list. (Hmm...I still have a tabled FF3 game too...) -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I regret not joining the 'CoNmunity' sooner.. It has a rather interesting history. But I guess joining in the tenth year isn't that bad! right..?
Aaand Magus, I actually enjoy reading opinions on RPGs I like or might like just as I enjoy going on and on about them myself. I've only been 're-playing' through FF4 and FF6 as I had forgotten a lot of 4's storyline and I wanted to see the Advance version of 6. I loved the job/customisation options in 1, 3 and 5, and enjoyed all three of them... immensely! However, I wouldn't classify them as faves, mainly because of the lack of character depth and plot development compared to 2, 4 and 6. Maybe it's just me, but I think there was a little pattern going on through the first 6... The odd numbers seemed to focus on gameplay and battle system, while the even numbers were more about characters and storyline. Final Fantasy Tactics presented both of those aspects in an exceptionally wonderful way that it remains my all-time favourite Final Fantasy (along with 7, perhaps). As for other SNES RPGs, just off the top of my head... if you haven't played any of the following (..somehow, I doubt you haven't): Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 (only been fan-translated), Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Mario RPG- Legend of the Seven Stars... ~then by all means consider giving them a try now! Since you mentioned Phantasy Star, you might also like to look for Sega Genesis' obscure yet best game (imo), 'Landstalker'... Similar to PSx's 'Alundra'. Though I don't think it's ever been ported.. Thank you, all. -------------------- Random game quote of the day: "Wilt thou change this world... Or wilt thou change thyself?" (Water Dragon, Chrono Cross) |

I've played Secret of Mana, and I didn't like the gameplay system--I had trouble leveling up magic, and that made for really dificult boss fights. (I also didn't really like the music, but that's a much smaller reason.) SD3 has been recommended to me, but since I didn't really like SD2 (SoM), not sure when I'll get around to it...maybe it's better, which some people have said.
Secret of Evermore is something I really have yet to try. The only American-made Square game from that generation...I look forward to learning more about it. I've played both CT and SMRPG and they both rank among the best of RPGs ever. (My nick should kinda give that away...) In particular, SMRPG is the only RPG I've played more than once--partly because it's just that much fun to play. I've also played FFMQ but I don't really like it--I find it actually harder to play than a "real" RPG. And I haven't heard of Landstalker before, but I have barely heard of Alundra...have to look at them sometime. (Also, call me "Glenn", not "Magus".) As for FF7, though, I've gotta disagree with you on that--it's a solid game, but nowhere near the best. Could have been much better in various aspects. And I still find it hard to hate Sephiroth, which is a problem concerning villain design. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Sorry, Glenn. I could guess from your name, but I wasn't entirely sure since you're using Strago Magus as an avatar.
You might not like Secret of Evermore then, as it shares lots of elements with Seiken Densetsu 2. However, since you liked the others, I still think you might want to give SD3 a chance. Magic isn't as essential in that one. (Personally, I prefer SD2.) About FF7, I'm not surprised. It's a matter of taste. I loved everything about that game and perhaps it also has something to do with the time I first played it- that was quite dull and after a long break from gaming. Although FF6 is one of my favourites and the reason I decided to join this board, I would say that I liked 7 even better. Villain-wise, I prefer Kefka to Sephiroth who's way overrated. But in my eyes, the best villains are often those the player can analyse and even sympathise with as opposed to pure 'evil' that's just there to be despised. Kefka is tricky. His twisted sense of humour and madness' made him different from other game villains. But Sephiroth, he falls into the former category. I apologise for drifting off-topic~ I sometimes have difficulty being concise. -------------------- Random game quote of the day: "Wilt thou change this world... Or wilt thou change thyself?"
