Okay. So we got some folks round here who've poked into the guts of these lil games we love so much and I gotta question fer ya:
What controls the length of time ya gotta wait for that blasted blacksmith to make Excalibur? Searching round the interwebs gives varying and vague bits of advice regarding the matter and a lil more snooping has some folks saying that it can actually vary. So lets go for something a lil more concrete. Whatever the code is for it, and there's people round here I figure might be able to answer that. -------------------- |

I thought you could get the Excalibur any time after your first visit to the moon, which is why it's recommended to give him the rat tail before you raise the whale, then instead of going to FuSoYa you just go up into space once, and then go retrieve the blade.

I don't think you actually have to visit the Moon at all to get him to forge Excalibur. All you have to do is raise the Lunar Whale and then he will automatically finish forging it/forge it as soon as you give him the Adamant ore.

I just wandered around outside for a bit. Fought some battles, went back in and got the sword. It's probably the amount of steps you've made since talking to him.

For some reason, people don't seem to have invested the hacking effort into FFIV that made it into the other games. So I'm not sure if there's anyone here with a real answer.

Hrm, I could look into it - it's just a matter of locating the proper events and figuring out the conditions for them. However I'm a little short on time (got some bieg projeact zomg to finish up and various IRL issues to tie up) so I may not get a chance to do this for a while.
IIRC, however, it only occures after you've gone to the moon and met FuSoYa. After the next fight, if memory serves well, you can go pick up the sword. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Not a programmer, but I've been in the same spot as you. I've given it to him, gone out and walked around and fought for an hour and he still wouldn't give it to me. Then other times, all I needed to do was leave the building and walk back in. The trigger every time is the raising of the spaceship.

Narratorway, the triggering event is 1.5 times a random number of steps determined by your current level x times you've run away x number of potions in your directory at the moment of forging divided by the amount of times Cecil's protected critically wounded party members.
... not really, but I figured you deserved a fake answer of the type you were actually looking for, as opposed to another real answer that was totally useless to you. Sorry. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |
