I am soooooooooooo angry right now.....

I was in Kefka's Tower. I had group Number 1 on their final tile, group Number 3 on their final tile, and I had just defeated the final statue before Kefka. Me, being the genius I am, decided it would bo a wise idea to save. Well, I saved at the blue dot, and all of a sudden, my screen went black. I was sent into a state of panic, and reset my game.

Attempy Number 1: When I loaded my game again, Group number 1 was in an extremely choppy setting, and couldn't move at all. Group number 2 was in a brown void, where you could move around freely until a certain amount of steps (then you just froze), and group number three was in this black void with flowers and chairs floating everywhere. blink.gif

Attempt Number 2: So, I reset it again, and when the same thing happened, I just used the warpstone, to get myself out of there. Anyways, once I got out, I was Setzer (of corse,) on the airship. But then, when I was trying to go down the stairs to the 'lobby' area, I found that I was unable to. I tried to go to the menu, but I couldn't do that either. I also found that I could not steer the ship. dry.gif

Attempt number 3: So, I used the warp stone, yadda yadda yadda, but this time I COULD enter the 'lobby' of the airship. I decided that, although half of my party was on levels 72-89, and knew all of their spells, the other half was only in their 40s. So I took Terra (my strongest) and three 'weaklings' along to the Dinosaur forest to train. Once I got there, I found myself in a battle, but once it announced the type of battle, (pincer attack, etc.,) it exited out of the battle, and I found myself in the forest again. mad.gif

Attempt number 4: I reset, warped, entered 'lobby', and decided, "Just forget it. I'm going into Kefka's Magical Tower of Glitches anyways". As I was in the middle of putting the three groups together, it sent them down, regardless of whether of not I was finished with them. As I started to move my first group (with the South Figaro theme playing faintly in the background), the most peculiar thing happened. Once I moved about six steps, the BEGINNING CREDITS started playing, with Terra, Biggs, and Wedge all walking across a snow-covered landscape. I soon decided that it was getting too weird to continue, and shut off the game. blink.gif

And now I'm going to have to start ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!! I am soooooooooooooooo angry, since I had dedicated one month of my life, to eating, sleeping, and playing Final Fantasy VI. Has anyone else dealt with similar glitches? And, if so, is there ANYTHING I can possibly do to recover my game?

I meant 'reset' as in, I pushed the reset button on my console.

It's strange. I've been reading on glitch FAQs and googling it for quite a while, and still nothing like it. =/ How odd.

The only thing that can be written to permanently in a cartridge is the SRAM. This contains save data, and can easily be corrupted if you switch the power off during read/write operations to it (ie, while saving or sometimes, while loading.) The ROM itself is static, as its name implies (Read Only Memory.) Short of physical damage to the cartridge or its innards, it cannot be altered.

SRAM only contains character information. It does not, and never will, store the entire game data (mainly because there isn't enough space nor is there a point to keeping a copy of this information.) Corrupting it will result in messed up characters, perhaps a messed up map ID plunging you into a broken area, maybe even having scrambled equipment that causes the game to freeze in battle.

What you describe is, in short, utterly impossible without having damaged the actual cart. If your character data is intact and you left the troublesome area, you are placing yourself back into a regular game setting - a normal cartridge would continue working just fine at this point. It is possible that event flags would be broken, but the effects would not be anywhere as drastic as what you describe.

I'm really sorry to hear about this problem, as you will never be able to enjoy a normal game anymore if the ROM has been damaged. :/ It sounds like something got shorted out in the cartridge. There is nothing you can do about it. If it's a GBA cart, you'd better get down there and see if they'll exchange it for a working one.

wow, that's harsh. I can't remember experiencing anything like that except with my screwed up copy of FF8.

Reminds me of the time I used a glitch too much on my Secret of Mana ROM. Random things would cause crazy stuff to happen. Sure it was funny, but I couldn't advance in the game. I ended up having to download the game all over again and start from scratch. I'm sorry, I don't know how to help you, I can only relate.

I've had problems with KotOR I and II to where something didn't trigger and I had to restart, but I've never heard of anything that crazy, even in FF6! Though one time, my save game got stuck as Cyan looking like Leo for about half the WoB! That was actually cool... But chair and flowers flying about? Crazy....

Yeah, looks like you'll just have to restart...I know it sucks from experience.

Eh, it's okay now. I'm on the floating continent, and it is nice to relive WoB for the trillionth time. I haven't experienced any more glitches. I just deleted all of my files in case it was something that had to do with them.

Yeah.... I don't know how many times I've gone through a whole game, forgetting to save ONCE, and dying.
