Final Fantasy Versus XIII

What is this? I've read on the list of ps3 games on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3_games) that a game called Final Fantasy Versus XIII is coming out... what the hell is this? Is square enix expecting me to buy both games? Why didn't they just put the whole content into one game and call it Final Fantasy XIII? What is going on?

Square is planning on setting several games in the Final Fantasy XIII universe, but they won't all be related in any other way. Versus is going to be a more action-oriented game starring some guy, and Square has stated that its plot will have nothing to do with the plot of the main title.

the reason that they arent going to be all in one and called XIII, is because there are going to probably be 5 XIIIs. sooo....yeah
not much has been released about it, but the main character is the king of the kingdom that holds the last crystal of the realm, thus has the power, and of course, people will try to steal it. Versus was anounced around the same time XIII was -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

Oh my god, what is wrong with square enix? They expect me to buy them all !!! ?? Pssht I think I'll just buy the first one that comes out and leave it at that, I'm not made of money I'm made of flesh and bones!

Although I'm not going to jump in Square's faces about it anymore, I still think it's really counterproductive to do it, considering the series' history. FF XIII is being made by the co-director of FF X (who also directed FF X-2) with the bulk of the teams that did VII, VIII, X, and Advent Children. FF Versus XIII is being made by the Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 team. Nomura's doing character designs for both games, but he's on the creative team of only Versus. And yeah, I dunno where the Chrono Trigger team is nowadays. It was basically the first Square-Enix game, because it combined key personnel from the early FF teams and the early DQ teams with newcomers Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda. I know that Kato's working on the recent Mana games, Mitsuda's a free agent that's doing a ton of different musical scores (he did Shadow Hearts: Covenant, the first Xenosaga game, and a bunch of other stuff), and a lot of Sakaguchi's people are over at Mistwalker. It would take a bunch of different stars to align for the old CT team to get back together. But yes, back on topic. FF Versus XIII is done by the Kingdom Hearts team, and it will have actiony gameplay, so (hopefully) this means we get some KH action without the goofy KH storyline and characters. I'd play a game like that. -------------------- |

I don't really like action, unless said action is a medieval sword duel. I have a feeling this will have an FFX-2 style score to this and I'm shying away from that. -CSM

Yeah, it's about time to get an xbox 360 and start on some of those mistwalker games.

The game looks interesting to me. Here's some good old trailers. i thought there was a more optimistic thread for this game, but my search yielded no results.
