Is it just me, or does "Lightning" from FFXIII look a little like the chick from the Resident Evil movies?





You can definitely tell from Video of the game, that the character actions and details resemble that of Advent Children...
This protagonist seems to look like somewhat of a cross between Cloud and Yuna.... Scary...

What do you guys think, are all the characters beginning to look too much alike?
Or are the differences they have enough to make them unique?
Do they even have to be unique?

And you know, it's not just the characters that seem like knock-offs of each other... This "Lightning" character uses a weapon thats VERY similar to a gunblade like from FFVIII...

Not that I'm complaining... I liked gunblades...

But does the fact that they seem to be so similar even matter? Back in the day all the characters were either all generics or at least they all looked very similar to each other...

Try comparing a white mage from any of the old SNES FF games to a white mage from another... they maybe slightly different... but still very similar...

Is it just social engineering telling us that we want something "original"?
why can't we be more like the ancient Greeks and appreciate things that are powerful and memorable instead of always needing something new?

The trailer looks awesome. If they don't screw the fighting system like they did in FFXII, I might want to play it ;)

As for the character, I don't mind her being similar to the other FF protagonists, as long as she has an original backstory and a personality. I don't care that much about the graphics, you know. She also needs a good voice actress (not like Fran in English dubbed version of FFXII), because voice adds a lot to the character.

Also, she's hot ;)

Anyway, Lightning looks a lot like Cloud more than anyone, and there is a good explanantion. FF XIII characters are design by the same people who designed the characters for Advent Children, so no surprise there. As for her looking like Yuna, I don't think so. The same goes for Ashe, she looks nothing like Yuna, her clothing does look like Yuna's.

I'd say that there is a resemblance, but that Mila's is a bit more square if I recall (no pun intended).

Lightning does kinda look like Cloud and the name is equally hippie, but she looks cool regardless. I like her hair.

I don't think the characters look too similar these days. The only time I've ever seen FF characters looking /too much/ alike was in the opening FMV of the PSX version of FFVI. From the screenshots I saw, Terra and Celes looked like THEY should have been the twins in that game. >>;

Anyway, a character can look as unique as is physically possible and have the personality of a tuna sandwich. To answer that second question there, yes, the differences they have are enough to make them unique.

Driving away from the characters comparisons, i can almost see an image of FFVII's Midgar (Train and ending scene) and a promised land-esque greenery setting or something.

Anyone else see the resemblance?

Interesting video! It looks like it will be unique.
I'm not going to say I can't wait though. Looks like it could be a bit odd, so I shall see what people think when it comes a bit closer to the release date.

Good to see they are going ahead with having a female lead for the game.
