The soundtracks are all so good, it's hard to do a topic like this. Which songs from FF do you NOT like to hear? Mine:
FF4 - Fabul - I just don't like it. It sounds like someone made a recording of gongs and cymbals crashing, then played it all backwards with some whining, annoying instrument as the backdrop. FF6 - Relm's Theme - Too much bagpipe, and it reminds me of Relm. FF7 - Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony - Waaaay too monotonous, and it plays for waaaay too long in-game. Actually, FF7s whole soundtrack sounds really mechanical and muffled in-game, but other versions sound pretty good. FF8 - The Man With the Machine Gun - This sounds like a rock/techno fusion song being played on one of those music synthesizers that were really big in the 80s, or the Cosmic Key from Masters of the Universe. FF9 - Castle Where Time Froze (I think this is Garland's theme?) - Again, too monotonous, and the highs sound really horrible coming from television speakers. It fits the overall mood of Pandemonium and character of Garland by sounding like it does, but just hearing it on its own FFX - Otherworld - It's not so much the song as the timing of it. It's good at the beginning for the blitz sequences, but for the final battle? I think it really detracted from the mood and what was actually happening in the fight. It's like trying to breakdance to "Endless Love" or something. FFX2 - Leblanc's Theme - Since FFX's soundtrack was so good, listening to new songs being played in old locations pretty much made my ears bleed overall, but this one is especially craptastic. This song reminds me of playing that game where you whack moles with a hammer, and every time you whack one, you have to listen to 8 notes being played on an out-of-tune sitar. Ugh. -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! I am impervious to pain! |

A lot of FF7's music was extremely difficult to listen to, especially in Midgar.
In FF6... hmm, this is hard. Oh! Yeah, believe it or not, I think the main Figaro Castle theme gets tiresome quickly. It's just trying to sustain too much pomp for too long, I think. (Coin Song's a different story.) (This is the only one I can think of for FF6) (and it's still really really good) Edit Quote FFX: Hymen of The Faith This post has been edited by L. I rather dislike the beginning of the final battle theme in VII (One Winged Angel?) Sounds like an orchestra tuning itself up. The rest of the song is fairly good however.
The blitzball theme in X was uninspiring. It just doesn't fit the whole feel of that minigame. And it plays during one of the worst parts of the game: blitzball. ;D I don't like that minigame. The overworld theme in IX didn't really strike my fancy either. There's something about it that just... sounds non-world map-ish. Worse one would be XII's music. Not a single song comes to mind when I think about XII, even though I liked the game itself. Everything just seems to run together and is too ambiant. Bleh. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote (Asylum Outpatient @ 26th April 2007 02:09) FF8 - The Man With the Machine Gun - This sounds like a rock/techno fusion song being played on one of those music synthesizers that were really big in the 80s, or the Cosmic Key from Masters of the Universe. That's very original of you. It is a Techno song yes but it blows the normal battle theme out of the water I thought. I didn't like the Black Chocobo theme on V. It burnt my ears... =( Most on IV were horrible (as is the game - funnily enough!) I originally thought VIII had bad music but when I heard X's music I realised it wasn't as bad as I originally thought. Most FF Music is good enough to set the scene, stay in your head or whatever. |

If I offend any Chocobo fans, I apologize in advance, but I think the Chocobo tunes from FFVIII and FFIX are kinda' lame.

For a non-comprehensive listing, tracks that I didn't really like all that much included the following:
Oppressed People (FFVII) <-- this track got REALLY tiresome when I was first stuck in that area... Main Theme (FFVII) <-- a nice piece of music, but sadly misused--you shouldn't be using a 7-minute-loop theme for an overworld with random battles ever 10 seconds. Walking the Snowy Mountains (FFV) <-- not really all that dislikable, but just didn't sound all that great The Phantom Forest (FFVI) <-- another one that I didn't like. Okay theme, but meh. Waltz Suomi (FFV) <-- the first section of this waltz kinda sucks. Infiltrating Shinra Tower (FFVII) <-- okay track, but got old very quickly. Chasing the Black-Caped Man (FFVII) <-- somewhat similar to The Phantom Forest. I just don't like this kind of tonality or texture, I think, but I don't know why. Fabul (FFIV) <-- this just sounds weird. okay, but somehow weird. The Airship (FFIV) <-- ...meh. Also, there were some places where the "metallic" sound of the percussion instruments in the FFVII soundtrack didn't seem too appropriate, such as "Sending a Dream into the Universe". -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. There were alot of songs on FFVII that I didn't like. But the one I hate the most is probably:
Rabanastre - FFXII or Overworld - FFVIII -------------------- If all else fails. beat them to death with sticks! |

Quote Asylum Outpatient FFX - Otherworld - It's not so much the song as the timing of it. It's good at the beginning for the blitz sequences, but for the final battle? I think it really detracted from the mood and what was actually happening in the fight. It's like trying to breakdance to "Endless Love" or something. I would beg to differ, I thought it was a good tune for the final, and it suited the whole save the world or perish scanario IMO. I know that he was facing his father, but at the end of it, he was facing the final aeon his father had become and I thought the music set the tone and mood for the fight. I think it showed the anger and emotions of all the team, as they were all very fired up. But anyway, sorry for going off topic, I think the most annoying music is the chocobo theme, I know it's popular but to me it's just annoying. I think some of the soundtracks of FFVIII were rubbish and unbareable to listen,
but some were excellent. Battle theme- Sounds terrible just terrible i hate it. Boss theme- disapointing and sounds weird. My mind- it sounds like the Julia theme.. which i hate. Eyes on me- i was surprised that a song had real voice in FFVIII but i'm just not sure i like the song or not but the singer voice is good. Find your way- It reminds me of FFIX and i know it's meant to be the other way round but this song.. don't like. This is one of the reasons why i don't like FFVIII. -------------------- FF7- 10/10 FF8- urr.. i thought the ending was great. FF9 9/10 |

There is music in FF that isn't as good as others, but they are all either good, great or 'out of this world'.
As for worst FF music - has no-one seen the intro to FFX-2!? |

Except for the ending theme I hated every piece of music in FFX. Mostly the music just sounded like new age background noise with no real melody to make them actual songs. The music from VIII comes in a close second - that was just uninspired.
And I wish they would stop inserting those sappy pop tunes into the games. When that one from VIII starting playing (when Squall and Rinoa were floating around space) it was jarring, and actually kinda spoiled the game for me a bit. -------------------- Quote Do you think we're forever? |

I really liked Otherworld as a final boss battle theme, myself. As weird a piece as it is (death metal in Final Fantasy WTF?), it tied the game together nicely, and really created a nice atmosphere for big Tidus scenes.

I must disagree with ultimage about FF8 and FF10 having bad music. I don't need to say why I think they actually had a lot of the best music because it seems our opinion of their music is very different, however I do agree about putting pop song in Final Fantasy. I strongly disagree with anyone who says FF8 has some of the worst music.

FF8's overworld music always made me go, "Okay, when are we going to get the REAL overworld music? The NICE overworld music that I would like listening to as I go around and get caught in random ba... AAAARGH *fight theme starts*"
FF9's second overworld music (disc 4) is along those same lines, but at least that was only on disc 4. I loved the overworld music on most FF's; but FF8's was probably my LEAST favorite. |

FFIV: I heartily agree that Fabul's music was some of the worst in the game.
FFV: The entire soundtrack aside from the big bridge sucks. FFVI: Nuthin'. One of the top vg soundtracks of the 90s. FFVII: I didn't like the theme that played in Wutai. Ugh... FFX: I played this game 95% on mute because I hated tidus' voice in the voiceovers. So, even though its not "music" (in any sense of the word), the worst part of the soundtrack for FFX is Tidus' voice. -------------------- Oh sure, I don't have to get kicked in the junk to activate it, but I like it anyway. -- Thief commenting on the difference between Throw and Blue Magic. |

Fabul (FFIV): Boring.
Golbez, Clad in the Dark (FFIV): Same as above. Giott, The Great King (FFIV): Same as above. Chocobo Forest (FFIV): Could have been a tad longer. Mt. Ordeals (FFIV): Not very epic and entertaining. What? (FFV): Funny song but nothing too special. Mog's Theme (FFVI): I think it would have been better off as a strip club song. Dark World (FFVI): Boring. Dancing Mad (FFVI): For sure, the first and fourth tiers were good, but the rest weren't interesting. Celes (FFVI): Nice lullaby. The Phantom Train (FFVI): Didn't seem to go anywhere. Techno de Chocobo (FFVI): Sad departure of classical to techno. Fanfare (FFVII): Too much machine-sounding. Tango of Tears (FFVII): Hate the techno. Fiddle de Chocobo (FFVII): No comment. One Winged Angel (FFVII): Overrated. Racing Chocobos (FFVII): I don't like the "farm" feel. Jenova Absolute (FFVII): Compelling, but it's just a remix of the original battle theme. The Great Northern Cave (FFVII): Just as bad as FFVI's Dark World. Those Chosen By The Planet (FFVII): Just the same beat and rythm over and over again. Trail of Blood (FFVII): Didn't do too much. Sandy Badlands (FFVII): Boring. I'll add more later as I listen to others. |

The music in the Desert Palace on FFIX was pretty annoying, mostly because I was stuck in there so long. Also, the music in the Phantom Forest on FFVI annoys me because my game always used to freeze up in there at the exact same spot of the music; I'm a bit traumatized, I guess. The noise in Shadow's dream always makes me extremely angry! I'm not a big music hater, I can't really think of any others that I hate.

Quote The music in the Desert Palace on FFIX was pretty annoying, mostly because I was stuck in there so long. anywhere where i get stuck, i eventually come to hate the music. even if it isn't that bad. Quote Also, the music in the Phantom Forest on FFVI annoys me because my game always used to freeze up in there at the exact same spot of the music ooo that reminds me, somewhat unrelated, but anyway. on my first playthrough of FF8, which was my second RPG, on the first disk it would always freeze. it was always during that one scene where Rinoa was going to visit Edea on the first disc and Edea is riding in that chariot type thing. it would always freeze once her hair started moving. FF8 is my favorite game right now, and at the time, i was copletely emersed in the story. i literally sat there for hours, with only the music playing, hoping that it would un-freeze. the two weeks i waited for my new copy were probably the longest in my life... i appologize for the rambling. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Thamasa gets on my nerves in FF6. Dude the Falcon Theme was awesome! but i value different opinions. let me change that, Jidoor in the WoR has the most annoying theme of any Final Fantasy, and it gets stuck in your head (Owzer's house, paintings)
