I've heard that using a gameshark with games on disks can burn the codes into them and cause the codes to be automatically in the disks. I don't use a gameshark, do not plan on it, and would not like too. My little brother uses a gameshark frequently, and we have one set of all the PSX FFs between us, and they're all mine.
So my question is: What are the chances my games will get burned with the codes?

Burn to your cd no, however they can burn to the save file on your memory, which CAN cause the savefiles to corrupt. Which is why i generally beat the game before using them, however some codes rule, like i used a gameshark on ff6 psx, and the results were relm turning into a celes leo female hybrid that had the skills summon and shock, also Gau turned into a dark yellow version of Terra's esper version with enchanced stats and the attack command 8)

One would think that common sense would say that because the PSX is read-only then it wouldn't be able to write data onto the disks. o.O

I think ZH got it there: it might write the data to the memory files, thus corrupting them.

All that Gameshark does is modify running memory values in the system, so no, it can't ruin the disk.

However, because a save is a memory dump, codes can be saved onto the memory card.

Even on a cartridge system, there's no chance of ruining the game itself, just a saved game.

The reason the Gameshark can't burn to disks is the same reason a regular CD drive can't burn things like a cd burner drive can't. They're two different pieces of hardware.

So basically, the guy lied, unless a PS2 may have an effect (not sure what he was using when he said it happened to him).

A PS2 can't do it any more than any other console.  As was said somewhere up above, someone probably got their wires crossed and confused it with saved games, which CAN get codes saved into them.

You cannot damage your original CD/DVD/Sedgewick, though.

Why have you responded to a two month old topic to add that you think it might be possible to damage a disc with a GameShark, when we've already established that it is not possible?

Please, don't go round posting for the sake of it. If you have something useful to contribute, please do contribute it. Otherwise, leave it be.
