Now now, get your minds out of the gutter folks.
I've stumbled on a little something with Terra's Morph and the Quick spell. This may already be known, but for the sake of those who don't I'll list it here. First, it helps if your Morph bar is well-charged because this stops working once she's done. Second, it may be a good idea to get an Economizer to keep the cost of Quick down enough so you can beat whatever you're fighting without running out of MP. 1- Cast Quick on Terra. 2- [Quick Turn 1] Take a turn doing whatever you normally would. 3- [Quick Turn 2] Use Morph. This counts as a turn but her ATB gauge is still full. 4- Cast Quick again. 5- [Quick Turn 1] Take a turn again. 6- [Quick Turn 2] Now use Revert. Again, her ATB remains full. 7- Keep doing this until you run out of MP or your Morph bar depeletes. Though this doesn't ensure enemies will never get a turn, as they may act between the short period of time after you Morph/Revert and pick Quick, it does keep her ATB gauge permanently (above conditions excluded) charged up to full. Now we have Psycho Cyan, Wind God Gau, and Perma-Active Terra. Anyone else? ![]() Another interesting thing is that Terra remains Morphed even when her bar depletes if she's unable to act (stop, freeze, etc.) Maybe there's something to gain from that - she DOES get double defense from being Morphed after all, but being unable to act limits her usefulness... Psycho Cyan? You mean the imp thing?
If we're talking about how to make characters in FFVI monsters, then try equiping Sabin with a gauntlet, an offering and Tiger claws for both hands. In the first round cast quick on him, then, with some other party member, use berserk on him. Now, he's a killer. I'm talking about Sabin, but you can actually use the two relics with anyone, just choose the right equipment. Try some weapons casting random spells, that can be even more effective. I just used Sabin for that, because he's my favourite character ;) I'm not a very big fan of Terra, but I might use your tecnique next time I play the game. Gauntlet? You mean Genji Glove? Also, note that the offering/master's scroll stops any spell's special effects from firing properly, so you wouldn't get any special castings. And using Quick every time seems like it would trump Berserk.
In any case, it doesn't fit the criteria of Wind God Gau and Psycho Cyan and PermaTerra (TerraForeva?), since it's not really an exploit. -------------------- I hear the jury's still out on...science. That's it, you people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college! |

Yeah, there are a lot of strategies, but these aren't exploits taking advantage of the game's many, many bugs.
Perma-Terra exploits a glitch in how Morph doesn't reset your ATB but isn't ignored as an action by Quick. IMO it's not as good as the other two (Cyan/Gau) because it doesn't make you invulnerable - just gives you a LOT of turns and, if you're fast enough, doesn't allow the enemy to act until you run out of MP or can't morph anymore. The latter is a crippling issue - after a big fight, if you're used up all of your morph bar, you're back to using a normal, morph-less Terra until you do a bit of fighting. From what I've heard the optional dungeon in the GBA version doesn't have any encounters that give magic points, so it really limits the usefulness of this technique. I suspect there's at least one exploit or bug with each character. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote Gauntlet? You mean Genji Glove? Yes, that's what I meant. About Gogo's mimic ability, I don't know if he can mimic Quick, but he certainly can't mimic the 8-hit combo you get from Genji Glove+Offering. That made me a little sad when I found out :( -------------------- You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one... |

IIRC, FF6 splits up its commands into two values: the action and the spell/item/etc. For instance casting Ultima would put "magic" in the command variable and "ultima" in the spell variable. Gogo's mimic command creates a backup of these two values and reissues them automatically, like if you had picked them yourself.
The reason you can't mimic the 8x hits (unfortunately ![]() Edit: Nevermind, my idea doesn't work. ![]() I did find something VERY interesting with Rippler though: it can exchange special characteristics that don't SEEM like statii. This is probably well-known among the handfull of ROM hackers here, but things like Rage, Shadow's Interceptor block, Morph, and such are all statii that Rippler can give any character. Just make sure the old duke's muddled before he gets Rippler off and he'll obtain the status. Do it again and whoever he targets will get the status. Now you can give Relm Interceptor. ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 18th April 2007 01:59 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Here I am, prominently displaying my lack of ability in FF6.
There has been mention of a Psycho Cyan and some Wind God Gau. I've searched all over the site throughout the FAQ section and the entire walkthrough for FF6. I cannot find anything about these two. What items/spells/rages do I need for these two? Admitedly, Gau is among my least favorite characters, but I'd still like to see him do something useful. |

Thank you, I can't believe that I missed that. Would the same trick work with the Ragnarock Sword and the Pearl Lance for Edgar?

I've heard Wind God Gau can no longer be used in the GBA version because he doesn't get the Merit Award.
Psycho Cyan There's a bit of an odd bug surrounding Retort. If Cyan dies before countering, he will retort the next attack targetting anyone, IIRC. If you then make him an imp, he retorts ANY attack. Including his own. So Cyan attacks until every enemy dies, basically. >:) Use retort, kill him right away before he can counter something, revive him, imp him immediately, and you're set. Wind God Gau First give Gau a merit award and the Tempest katana. Make sure oyu have the Stray rage. When Gau uses Cat Scratch, his attack is quadrupled (this is the normal behavior of the attack.) The Tempest, however, hits every monster. This means hitting everything for 4x regular damage. It's not as intense as Psycho Cyan, which is simply nuts, but a very good way to make Gau more effective. Slap an offering on him and you're really packin'! -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote (Silverlance @ 20th April 2007 15:53) AND because there's no version of Equip Anything/any weapon to be found. Until Advance, you either had a bug or the Merit Award, or in the SFC version, both, to get Tempest on Gau. Now, the Kazekiri is completely locked away from both Gau and Gogo, perhaps as a quick fix to Black Ultima Weapon (mid-length and long sword versions of the weapon crash the game when used with Specials), so the only way you could possibly get Wind God going is to transfer Rage status to someone who has Kazekiri(s) and hopefully get an enemy Special Rage out of it, though getting Stray Cat would require luck massive enough to annihilate any game of Bingo in the first five numbers.I've heard Wind God Gau can no longer be used in the GBA version because he doesn't get the Merit Award. Quote (Silverlance @ 20th April 2007 15:53) It's been found recently that Retort/Sky doesn't need to be used prior to death/revival, the bug occurs just from Cyan/Gogo dying and reviving in the same battle. The idea of needing two Retorts/Skies wasn't challenged until Advance came out state-side when it was found that Sky status was no longer retained beyond death, leading to rumors that Psycho Cyan had been put to rest.Psycho Cyan There's a bit of an odd bug surrounding Retort. It's not like FF6A doesn't have its own doomsday bug though, if you thought there were nothing but fixes to be found. Slot's rigging has a new bug that lets you force the rigging to be in your favor AND bypass the triple 7 ban (as in you can actually get 7-7-7 now, whereas before 7-7-BAR retargeting bugs were required) simply by confirming the first reel while an attack name is at the top of the screen or during an initial casting animation. See the new FF6A version of the Slot guide at my site or this thread on G'FAQs: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessag...&topic=34808006 ...and if you follow the link, you can hit the guide there too. :P -------------------- |

I can't speak for anyone else, but imho, the best way to turn Terra into a "real beast" is by completely outfitting her with Illumina, Genji armor and Paladin shield. Nothing touches, and she can dominate anything out there like she gets paid to throw on leathers.
But then again, you can do that with any character I suppose... |
