Every now and again, you'll find that a game makes you feel smart, without making you feel educated. What are these games for you?
Playing Phoenix Wright makes me feel like a genious, (god I hope I spelled that right.) Even if it takes me half an hour to get a clue, I still feel like my brain swelled two sizes just for presenting the right evidence. -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

Risk for the Playstation, I can own anyone in that game, and I just feel like a mini version of Hitler in that game, making racial slurs at my friends/cpu's, invading different territories of land, and ultimately winning...

I always felt smart playing space dogfight sims (like Tiefighter and Descent: Freespace) and Mechwarrior 2 because practically every key on the keyboard has a special function.

Shogi and Tetris. Sure, Shogi is just a board game, but it still makes me feel really smart when I win a match without losing any pieces. Tetris makes me feel good when I get to level 21 from level 10 and watch that castle get launched into space after my high score. Especially since all of my friends are abominable at Tetris. Hahaha. I borrowed my friend's DS on a trip and played a bunch of my other friends in Tetris; I won without getting any lines dropped on me. It was either luck or I'm amazing. Likely the former.
SSBM makes me feel smart sometimes, depending on who I'm playing and how well I did. Sometimes I'll play someone really amazing and I'll use Bowser or G&W or one of those low-tiers characters and just plain outsmart them in the match FTW. Apparently this pro-level player came in from VA during one of our tournies and I two-stocked his Fox with my Bowser. Embarrasing. I guess any other games that I play a lot and know inside and out (read: kirby superstar, secret of mana, FFVI/FFV/FFIV, earthbound, illusion of gaia, tales of phantasia, etc) make me feel smart just because I can get 100% without much trouble at all. I actually started doing speed runs of KSS, but that's offtopic now. -------------------- Is PJ |

Like Caesar said, I feel smart with games that I know inside and out. For me, that's mostly Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Silent Hill 3's hard riddle mode makes me feel smart. Brain Age *tells* me I'm smart. ![]() -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

I totally agree with Caesar with the Final Fantasy games making me feel smart, since i can finish the games, only VI and below, i can finish in less than 10 hours, and that makes me feel smart compared to the 50 odd hours involved with KH2's proud mode...he he
Also, for those who know anything about this game, the king of the cosmos in Katamari Damacy makes me feel smart, seeing the way he speaks English and how he dresses and is clumsy with the stars. The music also makes me feel really happy by-the-way. -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. Gridlock and The Roomz.
Also Go, but only when I play with beginners. When I play with someone better than me (and it's not difficult at all to be better than me) I feel like an idiot ;) And pretty much every adventure game made by LucasArts. For me it's games like monkey island, where you get items and clues. I get a lot of satisfaction when I find out what to do.

I felt great when I completed FFIV, I thought it was the hardest FF, and so it made me feel quite smart and pleased with myself just for doing it.

It depends on the game and the situation. I felt like a clever mofo when I passed certain challenges in Full Throttle, Phoenix Wright, and Myst; I feel like an evil genius if I exploit a game's loopholes to awesome effect (like performing a multiplayer near-infinite combo using Luke, Guy, and FoFs in Tales of the Abyss); or if I do something positively dastardly in a multiplayer game to utterly own my opponent, making all the right decisions, countering and shutting down their every move, you get the idea.
I guess "feeling clever" is just a part of how games are satisfying. I mean, you do something awesome, you feel good about it. Why not? -------------------- |

Definitely, the old school games are the only ones that made me smarter, especially Tetris and Pacman.
In Tetris you have to be quick and precise on your forming of blocks to obtain points, and in Pacman it's more than just dodging monsters that come chasing you.. you have to outsmart them to go around and collect chips to get the most points. I'm spoiled when it comes to Ms. Pacman for the SNES, so mind you. ![]() RPGs are also part of my intelligence when it comes to gaming. Usually it's Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger that I'm far more accustomed to strategy. Some fighting games like Street Fighter II also make me feel smart. |

The FFVIII Card game makes me feel smart.
I place a card in a random spot then BOOM HEADSHOT! I magically conquer all the cards around me with combos and pluses and sames and that kinda stuff.. I don't get ANY of the rules in that stupid card game.. I feel smart in WC3 when I beat people ![]() I feel smart in CSS when I completely annihilate noobs and they start worshipping my divine skills. |

Speaking of tertris, there is a multiplayer subgame version on one of the latest Mortal Kombat games. I must admit I feel smart when I crush my opponents on this. Great fun, but no longer presents a challenge unfortunately.
The old C&C Red Alert was another in multiplayer where I would always find a way to use Tanyas to rip my opponents base apart when they least expected it. No matter who they were, they never saw it coming. I felt very devious and smart. I always loved that feeling. Maybe it's why I still play chess. Hehe. All good fun. But of course there is always someone to put me in my place and ruin the fun. ![]() Hehe. Most games make me feel really stupid. Golden Sun: The Lost Age made me feel like a total idiot. I was always on a walkthrough trying to figure out where I'm trying to go. But then when I played the first GS, (I played them in reverse order) I felt pretty good because the only thing I needed a walkthrough for was to get all the Djinn. I know, the puzzles are supposed to be harder on GS: TLA anyway. Games where you need to use a compass kill me too, as I can't even read a virtual one.
FFIX actually made me feel smart because I could beat the bosses easily. Also, the chocobo sidequest made me feel smart becuase I could look at the picture and say "I know where that is!". Tetra Master made me feel smart when I was able to beat those masters in Memoria. -------------------- Why, hello guys! The only game that really makes me feel smart is the original Pac-Man.
![]() I end up doing it on the first or second try, and most of the time it was something so simple it makes you just want to smack yourself. After that, i'd usually forget how I did it when it comes to that part in my game, but I still do it almost the same. Will edit later, I know I can think of at least a couple other games that make me feel this way. *breaks out all his systems, all his games* Too many games, too many systems, not enough plugs. ![]() -------------------- Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Chrsit for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost Acts 4:12 Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost |

long time ago, when my english wasn't fluent. Command and Conquer (god i wanted to play Red Alert so much, but it won't run) had all the units I never heard of. That's probably where I learned words like power plant, rifle infantry, grenade, rocket, silo, and some more from "briefing section"
![]() but other than that ancient story, games make me feel dumb ![]() It's really all about reflexes and how fast your fingers move ^__^ oh and FF games don't even need that. In fact, ff8 makes me feel stupider than any other games, but it's still good ^^ -------------------- I will be there... |

games like ocarina of time, where there are giagantic dungeons full of puzzles, make me feel dumb at first when i can't solve them, but eventually once i beat them, i feel smart. the water temple from ocarina of time. does anyone else out there hate that dungeon more than anything in life? i had no strategy guide, no internet to use, and i was confused as heck. after hours and hours of mapping it out by hand, memorizing puzzles, and changing the water levels, i finally beat it. i dont think i have ever felt smarter/better about anything i've ever done in a video game ever since.
