I've recently lost my wallet, which didn't really have anything important in it, apart from my bank card and my student card. I'm not happy but I guess it's my own fault.
But we all lose things and that's why I've posted this really. I was just wondering what's the worst thing any of you guys have lost? Do you look back and laugh about it now? -------------------- In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't. |

Nothing was the "worst", in terms of material possessions. My first valentine, a birthday card from my grampa, my first matchbox that my dad gave me when I was 5 and coming home from a hospital stay.... I suppose those are some things that still tug at my mind today.
My mom died March 1st of 2006. I've had two brothers die, cousins, countless aunts and uncles over the years... but mom is the only thing that I've "lost" that goes through my mind every day. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

A heart-shaped pendant made of rose quartz that was bought by my mother on vacation in Europe when I was 12.
I'm not one for girly things (this was not only a heart, but a pink heart) but this pendant was a work of art. I wore it on a gold necklace, and kept it hanging on a hook in my room when I wasn't wearing it. I stopped wearing it for a while (I was always worried that I'd break it), lost track of it, and then several years ago I went to look for it again. It wasn't in my room, my sisters hadn't seen it (and hopefully they were telling the truth ![]() Also when I was around that age, I had a pair of Jellies that I loved (for those of you not old enough to remember, they looked like this http://conservativeprincess.mu.nu/archives/Jellies!.jpg, they were like what Crocs are now), and lost 1 while on the beach at summer camp. My parents couldn't find anymore in my size, and I was upset. It's really hard to find comfortable shoes, both then and now, since my feet are tiny and wide. Edit: I'm over the jellies, but I'm still upset about that heart necklace. I'm hoping that one day it will be found, maybe in some weird corner of a closet or in the pocket of an old coat. My dignity. No, no, wait, I never really had that.
![]() Hrm... looking back on the events of this years and last year (about as far as my puny human brain can reminesce) I'd say it's a rather cute girl's phone number (it's SOMEWHERE in my appartment, dangit...) Can't seem to find it anywhere, and interweb research turned up nothing. Bleh. ![]() There's a $100 bill somewhere in my appartment too. I'm in no financial troubles at all, but dude. $100? That's good money. I could sure use that. ![]() Hrm. Would it make me a boring guy if I said those two things were the worse things I've lost? ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

RL, how about your old appt? That doesn't count?
![]() I just had my cell phone stolen/lost yesterday. Luckily one of my friends works at Verizon and hooked me up with a better one for free and disabled the other phone. So it wasn't really too bad in the end. A few years ago when I was working on the FFVI hack, I had my hard drive erased. I had a backup on a flash drive, but it was a few months old, so all that progress was gone forever. My bookmarks seem to delete themselves whenever Firefox updates itself (the past few times haven't been an issue, though), which isn't really TOO bad since I have most of the important ones memorized anyways, but I lost a few awesome sites that can't be found via google anymore (can't remember what I typed to find the site). And about 20 links to particularly good vgcats cartoons. ![]() I also had my trumpet mouthpiece stolen by someone in my band. Wth. Who steals someone else's mouthpiece? That's gross. Luckily I have like 5-10 spares so it wasn't a big deal at all. Just creepy. My schoool counselor lost one of my scholarship applications earlier this year. And another one I sent in independantly got lost in the mail apparently. Sucks. That was potentially $4000 just gone. There are a handful of other things that have been lost (a belt, a nice gym shirt, some moldy gym shoes, a deck of cards, etc.), but those are hardly worth mentioning. -------------------- Is PJ |

Does sanity count?
If not, then the answer isn't that easy. I guess it's not a particular thing I've lost, but just things I keep losing. Like my cell phone. In the last year, I've gone through 3 of them; 2 were legitimately lost (actually, I believe one of the lost ones was stolen), and the other one was broken. It's daft because before I went through all the cell phones, I had my very first one for 3 years. See kids, this is why you always take the cell phone insurance when they offer it. It pays for itself the very first time you need a new one. -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

I still live in the same appartment, Caesar.
![]() Yeah, I suppose having everything I've ever owned trapped in a burning building was the worse. ![]() Still, I want that $100 bill. :/ -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

I think the worst thing that I have lost that I haven't found "yet" is my copy of Need For Speed III (I'm not too upset, it has to be around here somewhere.)
On the subject, though, of losing digital information, I once installed a really lame indie rpg called "Neitzche" (Spelling?) and it wiped out my entire My Documents folder. I was really scared for about an hour, because I thought I had lost some important progress I had made on my rpg, but I managed to undelete most of it. -------------------- Status: FF6 -- Finished! Actually, the most valuable thing I ever lost was a £25 Glock 19 GBB magazine. It's in the ruined farmhouse at Dura Forest somewhere...
I reckon the £100 worth of BB's and pyros I've fired off in the past 3 years count too. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

The most valuable thing I ever lost was my copy of Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. That was a decent game, and I can't find it at all. It's probably in some lost drawer, hiding underneath a broken pair of earphones or something.
Losing my black scarf (my cosy, warm, smelling-of-home scarf) in a cinema in Cologne was worse. Damn, it was pretty much my favourite piece of clothing; I have a horrid grey scarf as a replacement now. It sucks absolute arse, and when I can find a spare fiver, I'm buying a new one. -------------------- |

When I was 5, I went to the swimming pool. I had some 'Pogs' (little bits of paper with pictures on them) I had bought them from Toys R' Us before swimming in a nice plastic round box and it had about 100 in the box. I put it down in the changing rooms to have a swim with my Mummy and later I came out to get changed. My clothes were there and I had left my Pogs by my clothes but I couldn't find them and I kept looking but couldn't see them. Mummy went to the desk person and asked if they had been handed in but they hadn't and I had to go home without them I think someone had taken them.
I was very upset as a young pup, I never had anything like them before and I liked to flick through them and watch the colours change. For absolutely ages I wished for them back and I had this strange fantasy about this boy who had (allegedly) nicked them being told off by his Mum for stealing them, I know it's sad but I was only lickle. ![]() |

I'll always miss my MC5 T-shirt. It was an awesome shirt, though I didn't lose it like it just disappeared. We were down the beach, left for ice-cream, came back and the tide had swept away our stuff.
I lose loads of things, though. People do not lend me stuff anymore. There's one thing I've always wished I hadn't lost, though. It sounds kinda arrogant, but at school a few years back, our English teacher set up this thing where we'd anonymously leave nice comments for everyone in our class, and as a sort of leaving gift, we had this nice little sheet of comments about us from our classmates, and it was just really lovely to look at whenever I was feeling down, but I went and lost that. I always get really sentimental when it comes to losing stuff. For example, I had this little plastic angel that came out of a cracker, I had that in my wallet for months and lost it. Inexplicably, I was really heartbroken when I lost that. As an aside, I was trying to think of things I've lost for this post, and kept glancing into my room to look for something to write about, then I remembered they wouldn't be there. Because they're lost. :\ |

I've actually lost 8 consecutive copies of Final Fantasy VII through 8 years. I've been playing them since a little kid and whether it was they were stolen from me stupidly bringing them to Show n' Tell at school, or my little sister destroying them by using my Playstation discs as frisbees, I've lost them all except for the current number 9.
I also lost my brand new Rampage game the first week I got it (I seem to recall myself placing it in my closet where all of my games were kept, and it was gone the next day...) Never found it... But other than that I never lost anything important... Oh, one time I lost my dental wax (for braces so that they don't cut up your mouth...) at the beach one time in Florida... -------------------- We, who cannot see into tomorrow, have no way of knowing... 8 copies? Ouch. I guess the worst thing I lost was my Roleplaying Site. I put alot of work into that thing... ALOT. Also it was a place where me and my friend really connected. Unfortunately, it happened to shut down if you left it stagnant for too long, and my internet was out for months. It was lost to cyberspace...

Quote (Elena99 @ 6th April 2007 01:22) I can't tell what direction sound is coming from either. My parents' house has two floors and many rooms, and I'd have to tell my mom daily that calling my name and asking me to come "here" doesn't cut it. Tell me about it. I don't really feel I've lost it either because I can't remember hearing well, but it's still a loss. I don't know what's worse, pretending to understand what people are saying (when I can't look at them) or just ignoring them completely and seeming rude. It was poor at school when I would reply "just tea thanks" to a question such as: "You playing football?" I stayed at my cousin's flat a few weeks ago. I was sitting beside his girlfriend watching TV - he was out at work - and she must've thought I was coming onto her as I had to keep staring down at her lips ![]() It's weird. I don't see myself as disabled but I probably am (and should be on some kind of benefit scheme). Come to think of it, the only person who has spoken to me about it without holding back was a near-blind, paralysed sound mechanic. When I came to help him I told him outright and he said - "Oh well... you'll do great here then!" Hurtful. ![]() -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I lost my mom to some messed up neighbor back in 2002. He shot her and another neighbor of ours for clearing out debris on the only road out of our property to the highway. That messed me up for a while. Not as bad now, but I still don't feel good.

i *kinda* lost my real mom. a bad divorce when i was about 2 months old i think. the last time i saw her was when i was three, but the irony is that the only thing i can remember is crying. i also havent seen my step- rother and sister my whole life because they weren't my dad's kids, so they didn't apply in the divorce.

I lost the memory card with my "Perfect" FFT file on it
I also lost a memento from someone very important to me. It was a little turtle carved out of Korean Mahogany. I had it on my keychain for a while and then one night I dropped my keychain. I looked the next morning and realized it was missing but I couldn't ever find it |
