haha yeah, i know this may sound really stupid, but is the any relationship between Shiva and Ifirit? (romatic, friends, ect.)
it always made me wonder... i have noticed in ff6 that the fight together and in ff8 Ifirit makes a comment about Shiva before he dies, and i havent really seen anymore intraction like that with other summons but them... what does everyone else here think? hahaha this sounds kinda wierd -------------------- delete me |

Likely, there's nothing there. Material from one FF does not carry over to the next (re: Cid, the part-time airship pilot, teacher, mechanic, astronaut, etc) and information is usually limited to a single scene when there is anything, so there is zero hard evidence.
In FFV, a lot of characters comment on Ifrit. This happens with other summons in other FFs. These scenes are just there to add depth to summons, which are often just organic spells without lives. Any other information is just speculation and cannot be backed up by anything in-game. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Many of the Summons in the FF series are actually Gods in many religions.
eg. Shiva, Odin, possibly even Leviathon There was actually a little contreversy involving this... I don't recall any details... *Don't forget Biggs and Wedge |

This is true, and if you put this in perspective then a Shiva/Ifrit relationship makes even less sense. Shiva is the destroyer god in Hinduism's "holy trinity" while Ifrit is the name of a Djinni from Islam tradition. We know how much Hindus and Muslims love each other, right? -------------------- |

If you notice, aren't they usually always one of the first summons you get in any FF game?

Chocobo is the first summon in III, IV, V (along with Sylph and Remora), and VII. Stray, Kirin, Ramuh, and Siren are the first you get in VI, Ramuh is the first in IX, that wind thing is the first in X, and Ifrit and Shiva aren't even summonable in XII. Shiva is one of the first summons in VIII, though. So that's 1/8. -------------------- |

I think you've just read into this a little too much personally.
I think the idea is that the summon monsters all know each other, so they would probably have some interactions throughout the series. I think this is all it is with nothing deeper. -------------------- In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't. |

The only connection, I've seen in regards to some relationship between Shiva and Ifrit, is in some of the fan pieces out there. I can't recall anything in the series that could've pointed to the two knowing each other, in fact, I can only remember in ff8 where Ifrit commented about Shiva being one of Squall's GFs (when used on him, fire cavern).
Even with that small thing, I wouldn't count on anything that could point towards past relationships between the two, like friendships, romance, or etc. This post has been edited by xDrkMage on 23rd March 2007 17:34 -------------------- "Space for Rent" |

Well, when I said that they were always the first ones that you always get in the games, I guess I didn't type that I meant "one of the first" summons you get.
In FFIV, It's Chocobo, Dragon, Ifrit, Shiva In FFVII, It's Chocobo/Mog, Shiva, Ifrit In FFVIII, It's Quezicotel, Shiva, Ifrit In FFX, It's Valefor, Shiva, Ifrit (Or other way around...) -------------------- We, who cannot see into tomorrow, have no way of knowing... Are summons even capable of loving each other? I've never really thought about it before, but they don't really show much of anything towards each other. To me, they're critters that come and pound the pulp out of other critters.

In FFT, with 200 Job Points you can have Shiva and Ifrit (and Ramuh), lower than that there's only Moogle (110 Jp). Apart from that, just in Final Fantasy IX, You cannot use in the first part of the game this two summons..

I feel like being nitpicky... Shiva has a dual role. Not only is he/she (his/her gender often alternates) the god/ess of destruction, but also the god/ess of creation. But the FF Shiva really has nothing to do with the Hindu deity at all. I think Square just thought the name sounded cool. But anyway, probably the interactions between Ifrit and Shiva are simply used as a poetic device - Fire and Ice negate eachother, opposites attract, Romeo & Juliet, if I could melt your heart, blah blah. Here's how I see it:
Shiva x Ifrit = product of overactive imagination. Sorry. Only Leviathan has a wife, and that's only in FFIV anyway. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
