Are you using the GP toss technique?

Think you can offer more details?

Various things can cause your GP to decrease outside of shops. !GP Toss for instance uses your money. If you rely on that, your cash will never increase. That's the most likely problem.

Various cheats can also cause problems. Most emulators, if that's what you're using, reset values back to their original values when cheats are switched off, so even if you set your gold to 99999 after starting off with 500, the moment you switch off cheats it'll drop back down.

It'd be unlikely that a bug would cause this. Short of a freaky overflow that wipes out part of the WRAM (and because of where gold is placed in WRAM, other things would likely be affected) due to unchecked bounds in an array, I can't think of anything else that would cause this. The gold-management system is fairly basic but well-managed and the code is generally rather straightforward. Counting operations are all made with temporary variables, so there's no chance of your gold being messed up under certain unlikely rare conditions.

My money's on !GP Toss, no pun intended. You're likely using it as a quick means of winning fights, but overlooked the fact it uses your money up.
