Yo, most of ya'll know that I'm in the Army and whatnot, SF and all that jazz...anyway, I heard some talk about us possibly getting new suits, and this was the only info I could give ya without, ya know, getting shot/and or locked away.

Trojan?

Anyway, this guy has some good ideas, and it definitely looks like it could work. The specs (that I've seen) are pretty solid, and I'm anxious to go to the demonstration. Let me know what you guys think.

Yeah I'd like to see a demo too. It was good when the guy just said: "Yeah I've been watching Star Wars and Halo... Halo the videogame." That must be the only reason it's called "Trojan". Either that or the US military is going to send 100 suits to Osama Bin Laden (who incidentally likes playing Halo on his Xbox), which actually have people in them. Probably not.

I can't honestly see this working. For one thing it looks really heavy and the guys will probably be easily shot by RPGs. Also it looks like a front-line gimmick. I've heard from a friend out there (in Basra last I heard) that it's all about keeping peace. He's seen two very different ways of doing this and their consequences. Usually he and the men walk around with very little armour - no helmet just a beret - and a sidearm. They just talk with the local people. He said they had no problems from anyone. Then there was another unit in a nearby area who drove around in an APC, had full body armour on, pointed their guns in peoples faces and shouted through a megaphone at them! Guess who got attacked.

Even if these suits worked well, I don't think they'd have much use for them in the near future.

It's funny though, because there are 'Hot Spots' in Iraq where the people just attack for no reason. It's all about the type of unit one is in also. The SOP for most frontline units is to just go in there balls to the wall guns blazing and make the place secure enough for the guys who come afterwards. I haven't been to the 'Nice Iraq' yet. I was in OIF I and II when there where nothing but hard fought battles, and personally, I would have appreciated something like this. The specs (that I can't share, PERIOD.) are solid, and from the few samples that I've had an opportunity to mess around with, it is mobile, and light.

But, ya know...we'll see.

I assumed it was called the Trojan because the dude's name is Troy. Seems to make sense to me.

The suit looks pretty nice, though. I'd like to see some more demos.

Seems way too gimmicky to me. The flashing lights... the fold down crotch clock... I think better body armor for the troops should be a high priority for our military planners, but I don't think this will catch on and be the wave of the future.

I dont think the specs will hold it back, but rather the cost.

I dont recall what he said it cost to develop it, but I cant imagine a single suit costing less than $10,000. Perhaps if he trimmed down the gimmiks to make it more cost effective, it might be more plausable.
