I remember back in the early 1990's when I first saw Dragon Ball I fell in love with the show. I remember browsing through my friend's satellite BIG dish channels when I suddenly saw it. I said, HEY! Those are the cartoons that I see in the back of GAMEPRO magazines. I was instantly hooked by it. Back in those days, it was pretty hard to get the episodes that followed Goku's adventure after he finally arrives to planet Namek. I looked everywhere to find subbed versions. I never managed to find the series and all I found was the 'movies', so I had to wait for TOONAMI to air the new episodes after years of suffering thanks to PIONEER and FOX.

Now FUNimation is releasing the entire series in DVD, in original japanese and the american version. I'm looking forward for the Vegeta Saga, which was released by PIONEER and never got it's UNCUT version.

Anyone here planning on getting the DVD sets? I know I will!

You can probably get HK versions on eBay for a fraction of the cost.

I was going to make fun of you for posting about a show that my little brother used to like, but I have Sailor Moon on DVD, so... Have at it.

Well, yes you can make fun of me, but remember, I began watching the show when I was, what?, 10, that was 13 years ago, and BTW, This will sound silly, but I like Sailor Moon, so I will not be making fun of you.

Yes you heard right, I LIKE SAILOR MOON... like karasuman said, have at it.

I used to be a huge Dragon Ball fan, but I got bored easily of the non-stop episodes that were nothing but "OMG I'M CHARGING MY ULTIMATE SKILL" and then 20 minutes of mountains blowing up, rivers flowing and rocks flying. Especially during the Namek saga, it was downright ridiculous.

Still, I might look into this as lately I've been developing a manga addiction and wouldn't mind rewatching the entire series uncut.

p.s. I like Sailor Moon too, what's wrong with that? It was one of my favorite shows growing up.

The Namek saga really did to death the whole "POWER LEVEL A BAZILLION" thing, but other than that I always did like the series. I have the whole original Dragon Ball series in manga, and I want to get some of the DBZ manga, but it's so expensive!

As for the question, no, I don't think I plan on getting the DVDs.

And my favorite character was Piccolo shifty.gif .

Yup, the namek saga was BLAH BLAH power level BLAH BLAH my new transformation BLAH.

The Cell saga was quite good, but my favorite is the Vegeta saga, that was a lot of fun.

Piccolo was my favorite, followed very closely by Vegeta, who I think only won ONE fight in the entire series. Not counting Napa in Dragon Ball GT. Oh wait he won two as far as I can recall. #19 and Kiwi.

Trunks is still my personal hero. Well... him and Jesus. And not Jesus in a jesus-freak way, just jesus because, well... um... best superhero in history!

Yeah, I haven't seen DBZ in awhile, but I have seen Toonami's Frieza saga start to end, as well as the Cell saga. When I was 15, I grew my hair long just to try to be like Trunks' hair after the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He was cool with a capital awesome!

As for sailor moon... well... even tho it's off topic...
I friggin love it.
Sailor Saturn is the bomb diggity(which is really funny if you know me personally, b/c that is totally not my personality to say that, but it's totally true), and Sailor Pluto has the best name ever, and I'm not talking about trista or whatever it was in english, I'm talking the japanese name: Setsuna.

And to another degree of off-topic-ness: Sailor Pluto/Setsuna shares a name with my other favorite anime/manga character: Angel Sanctuary/Setsuna!

Oh dear God. XD; I never really liked DBZ, but my younger brother used to love it when we were little, so I ended up seeing enough of it to pin Vegeta as the best character on there.

I loved DBZ too, and I still like it today! I actually bought the Imperfect Cell saga for my lil bro on christmas. I think I've seen most episodes since the original Dragon Ball. Living so close to the border, we got several Mexican channels, and one of them showed DBZ everyday in the afternoon (right after school!). I'd watch it with my brother when i was in jr high. That show got me hooked!

I used to love DBZ, but then I grew a bit older and realized I shouldn't have to deal with four episodes straight where nobody does anything but wait for Goku to come back or to finish charging for their ultimate move for that point in the series.

Though, getting it on DVD would allow me to actually go to all the episodes with action.....so I suppose my point was moot

Will Goku's hair get any longer? Find out next time, on DRAGON BALL Z!!!

But yeah. One thing that bothered me, like Kane said, was how half the episode was commercials and the other half was either talking or repetitive fight scenes (notice how the fighting in midair was just 3 moves, repeated 100 times?).I think there were maybe 10 episodes where something really plot-changing happened. And most of them were before the Cell saga.

It's over 9000!!!

Sorry I had to say it smile.gif

Anyway, I'm not a fan of DBZ or similar shows. Endless fights gets dull after a while; I need some character interaction that's not guns/swords/fireballs.

He beat alot of people during the Namek saga. Dodoria and Zarbon (or whatever Frieza's original bodyguards names were), as well as the little green guy (technically) from the Ginyu force.

I was big into DBZ. Watched all of DBGT in japanese with subs, but meh...it was obvious how off it was. I mean, guys would be fighting a losing battle (because only Goku could do anything), and would just attack regularly, and there was pretty much no reason to go Super Saiyan.

Dragonball was good, I just didn't get to see more than the first half.

ehhh i might eventually buy it as it was my favorite anime serious for the longest time but i'd rather buy gundam wing and full metal alchemist first as well they had constantly changing plot lines

besides after watching the boo saga and looking back you see just how much the animation had changed over the course of the series and just how lame the original episodes really were i think dragon ball gt was in the end put together much better

and for the record future gohan was my favorite (the one from future trunks future) buttt, if you want a recurring character then it would have to be trunks

Dragon Ball GT is not as good as the previous two series, but it had it's moments. I'm currently watching the spanish version of it on YOUtube, since the store that had'em here closed down. The spanish voices are made by the same people who translate the Simpsons to spanish. Little Goku's voice is the same as Ralph, Lisa's clasmate. It is the mexican dubbed, not the spain one. They don't sound like mexicans at all, which is good.
