The whole school was shut!? I've never heard of anything like that before. The only time like that I've had was when the central heating went down and they had to send us home. Since so few of us could get home, we just had a huge snow-war on the playing fields. Good days.
As for flu, I don't think it's even been cold enough here (Edinburgh), except possibly today. Usually there'd be old people in droves at the clinics but when I was there it was fairly quiet. I picked up a minor flu bug from a family member during a recent visit, but I'm over it now. The family member is from northern Pennsylvainia.

Where I live in Central Virginia, school isn't cut for the flu. Instead, school is cut when we get a sprinkling of road-sticking snow
...Which has only happened once so far, and that was a 2-hour delay ![]() -------------------- |

Actually, the flu has bigger chances this year BECAUSE of the lack of cold. Low temperatures usually kill off most of the germs. I've got a little cold now myself.

There's been a bit of action around here, I know I had a cold a ways back. I can't think of anyone who's sick right now, actually. The Norwalk virus is what's getting everyone, mostly around Halifax and Dartmouth, though. I remember there were a few universities that were closed due to the Norwalk virus, but I've never heard of a school being closed because of the flu.

Well, over here in Central Texas, amazingly I saw snow for the first time in over 10 years! Hadn't seen it since i was about 6 years old. As for the flu, i got a cold and still kinda got it, mostly a runny nose though and also some fluid in my left ear, so right now I can't hear like I usually can.
It was awesome! Because of the ice we had in Texas, a lot of ice, we didn't have school for 3-4 days. I mean, the radio kept saying "Rockdale ISD will be starting classes at 10pm" on so and so day, bull. We didn't even come close to having school. It was fun, stuck at a friends house and went hunting the whole time. I'm still mad, two-white tails crossed our paths and we were on the verge of finding a huge buck (saw fresh prints on the ground, it was only about an hour or so ago when he was there). Made me mad. ![]() That's how I got the flu/cold, going out and having a runny nose and no tissues to blow with, horrible! ![]() Oh well, it was fun. How'd did all of ya'll go? I haven't had the actual flu in years, but I think I feel a cold coming on. I've had a bit of a stuffy head and scratchy throat since earlier this afternoon. Boo. >.<

No one really gets the flu that badly in San Diego. When I came back to school (ASU) in Arizona everyone was sick. Luckily I was on the ending part of the Arizona flu season and did not get sick this winter...yet. Watch me jinx myself haha.

I've only had the flu once, and it was pretty nasty (though short-lived.) Hit me right at work, too. Might want to skip this post if you're eating.
I wasn't feeling too hot so I told my boss I was heading home. Now... back then I was living at my mother's - it's an hour-long walk to get back home. I felt a bit queasy so I stopped at the mall for a quick bathroom break. Felt a bit better, started to head back home... Except I wasn't two minutes away from the bathroom when it hit me - a fair bout of nausea. Now, the mall, you have to understand how it's set up. Right in the food court, there's a small hall between two stands (both of which sell some kind of green food with a raw, strong odor) which leads to the bathrooms. I'm heading back there, feeling something stirring in my stomach and trying to walk slowly and calmly for the sake of dignity, when suddently this strong, vegetable odor hits me like a brick. Oh god, fuck dignity - I ran to the bathroom. All stalls are occupied except the last one. This little countdown starts in my head - T minus 6... 5... 4... I rush to the last stall, literally THROW someone out of the way, and just as I step in... Well, I'll leave it up to your imagination. Whatever you picture should involve the words "projectile," "vomitting," and "all over the damned place." We're talking walls covered in breakfast. After it was over (thank god!!) I stumble out of there weakly, give an elderly gentleman waiting to use the stall a polite smile (hehe... surprise?) and beat a hasty, flustered retreat back home. After spending the entire day in bed (literally - I couldn't move at all!! Just this once, when a bout of nausea hit me again. Luckily this time I had pretty much nothing left in me) I was fine. Haven't caught it since, and this year was supposed to be especially bad because of an epidemic. A few people at work caught it, I didn't. Quite thankful for that. I suppose walking a half hour to and from work daily in the cold and freezing winds has toughened my system up. I haven't been sick at all this winter. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Flu hasn't hit me too bad this year. I usually get it once a year, but it's never too bad. I just have an upset stomach and no appetite for a little while. Nothing too bad usually.
This year, instead of catching the flu, I got something much more unique and interesting. So the day after a rough tennis practice my throat was hurting. I figuring it was just from doing the intimidation shout while I fire my 115 mph serve to my opponant, so I just wrote it off as nothing. Well a week later, it had gotten to the point where I couldn't even swallow. Hurt that bad. I also had a severe headache, really bad pain in my ears, felt super tired, and I spaced out a lot. So I got to the doctor's and he's like "well, I'll do an instant strep test to see if you've got that." Comes back negative. He's like, "well, there's about a 2% chance you could still have strep so I'll let this culture sit overnight and I'll run it again tomorrow. I'm 95% sure you have mono." I've never had mono before so I just immediately wrote all my symptoms off as mono symptoms. Doctor calls the next morning: turns out I had strep. So he gives me antibiotics and I'm thinking it's all gonna be over soon. 5 days of antibiotics later, I feel the same, so I get a blood test. Positive for mono. Keeping track of this? So far it's mono and strep. So doctor tells me to just get a ton of sleep. Like 24 hours of sleep per day. It was really interesting. I'd be talking to someone online and then halfway through typing a sentence I'd just fall asleep. Violent and instant sleep. Amazing. Several days later, my headache and earaches are worse than ever. Talk to Mr. Doctor again, and he said I have a sinus infection. So there you have it. The most diabolical triad of illnesses I have had to date: strep throat, mono, and sinus infection. Hurts like hell and makes you super tired. Zero attention span, too. Still went to school and got a 103 on my Calc test before the teacher finsihed handing out the papers, but aside from that, it might've been the most frustrating three weeks of my life. I'm all better now, though, so it's just a good story now. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

Violent and instant sleep huh? That would explain the long string of "jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj"s in one of your emails right in the middle of a sentence...
![]() And Caesar still manages to figure out animation scripts for FFV while afflicted with mono and strep. Who da man? The flu bug isn't too severe round here, and I haven't had a problem with the flu in years, bu then again, I'm in the Army. They make us immune to those normal viruses ![]() But yeah, there have been some bad cases in the news around the country. That's just how it goes though. Maybe this winter it'll be colder, but I doubt it with the whole global warming thing. -------------------- This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy. Well, I was just taking a guess because I really don't remember "real" snow, meaning quite a bit, since about 10 years ago. Come to think of it, we did have "some", but when I say snow, I mean snow. I use to visit places and it snowed a lot, so I mean a lot of snow when I say "i've seen snow", ya know? Just thought I would clear that up.
