My favorite gaming decade would have to be the 1990's. I really loved it when the SNES came out and stood superior to Sega even though on a later release date, the Mode7 graphics astounded so many. Great games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man X2, Batman Returns, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6 are the reason why I still love the SNES even to this day..
I also liked the PlayStation's debut around 1994-1995 when it introduced some really great games such as Crash Bash, Spyro, and Tekken. Sega's Sonic The Hedgehog was also a decent moneymaker. The 80's was also pretty cool and all. The NES's Super Mario Bros. was my first game I played when I was two. That game was so great. I can't get over the dododododo-do-do song. I also have memories of Tetris. Not very knowledgeable back in the 80's and 70's when it comes to gaming, since I hardly got to try out some of the systems in my early childhood. Pacman and Pong were my two personal favorites from that decade. I remember being so good at those games I'd always rank the best with my friends. So the concluding decision of my favorite video game console decade was the 90's, where games started taking a turn into evolution. Good old days.. EDIT: Messed up with my poll on the bottom. 2000 is paired with 1990. Someone please separate them. This post has been edited by NeoEx-Death on 23rd January 2007 23:28 |

I'd say '80s arcades and early '90s console games like SNES and Sega Genesis. By the time that the late '90s came around, there was a lot of hype goin' into PC/Online games and next-gen consoles which I got (Playstation/Playstation 2) and has years go by, the latest next-gen console games get all the hype. I miss goin' to the arcade, throwin' quarters into the machines and goin' nutz. The Sega Genesis was my favorite hobby before I tried my hand at PC/Online gamin' while the Genesis was goin' downhill, makin' way for the consoles of the future.

It has to be the '90s. It's unfair that they get the SNES and PSX
![]() Playing Streets of Rage on two player and accidentally pressing C to call the random police car... ahhh. Just like Niddrie, the only place you can find money is in the bins. Then there's the head-to-head Ryu vs Ken clashes on Street Fighter we played which were basically a contest of who could use Ha Do Ken the fastest. And bomberman purely for the music. Games were better when I was younger. And then the PSX comes along with FFVII and - I'll admit - VIII. MGS and Syphon Filter made me want to be an American agent, which was the norm at the time. I can also thank Resident Evil 1 and 2 for giving me so many nightmares. I believe I was half the age required to play that game; but it was too good to miss. Two player SNES and Mega Drive are better than any online game today, I'll end on that. The '90s all the way! Of course, I've only lived through the '90s and 2000s anyways, but the SNES and the PSX are still my consoles of choice. It seems like games just aren't the same now.

My favorite gaming decades are the two I've lived through - the mid 80s through the mid 2000s. I've enjoyed games made before I was born, and I've enjoyed games released less than a week ago every bit as much. I don't discriminate.

I don't discriminate either, but I do believe that the 90s brought alot to the gaming table. Having a Super Nintendo and a PlayStation in one decade is pretty outrageous. This is when games began moving out of being simple arcade games and truly becoming respectable forms of entertainment, with new gaming technology and innovative games and what-not.

I'll go with the Nineties, mostly because all of my favorite consoles -- Saturn, SNES, PSX, Dreamcast, N64 -- were made then. I can enjoy other things just as much, but that feeling of reaching even more undiscovered territory was pretty incredible. Nowadays, I have a semi-blasé attitude towards new-age gaming, but all things can be enjoyed given time (except N-Gage).

It's a tough decision to make, given that the modern console pedigree truly began with the release of the NES, which obviously had its heyday in the 80's. However, I don't think at the end of it all it could even be a question. Between the 16-bit wars of the early 90's and the advent of the Playstation, which is the bridge to gaming as we know it today, there's no way it's not the 90's. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Definitely 90s, I wish I had been more into gaming in the 90s but I was too young and too much of a tightwad to afford my own SNES, Genesis, or PSX. That's changed now--I think aside from a couple of computer games most of my gameplay is on games and consoles from the 90s.

90's.
But if I'm allowed to be more specific, I'd say 94-04. Because I'm new school like that. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Quote (FallingHeart @ 24th January 2007 10:34) 90's. But if I'm allowed to be more specific, I'd say 94-04. Because I'm new school like that. This is pretty close to my answer, too. That particular decade encompasses most of the games I'll be mentioning below. On the one hand, the SNES had some real classics: FF4, FF6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Zelda: LttP, Super Mario World, Earthbound... Some of the best Sony games came out on the Playstation, too, like the original Silent Hill, both Lunar games, Castlevania SotN, and the first two Suikodens... The N64 had a pretty good Mario Kart and the first Smash Bros. game, and Ocarina of Time wasn't too bad. Then again, I just love the PS2. The rest of the Silent Hill games, three *good* Fatal Frame games, two awesome Final Fantasies, Katamari, DQ8... The GC wasn't too bad with Paper Mario 2, Eternal Darkness, and the ability to play GB, GBC, and GBA games on the big screen. But the Wii and PS3 haven't had enough time to really figure into this little contest, so the 2000s' lineup isn't much to compare with the 1990s'. Maybe I'll feel differently in another three years as some of the series listed above continue to grow on the PS3 and Wii, but without the benefit of that knowledge, the combination of the SNES and the PSX is a clear win. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |
