With the sudden influx of negative threads(i.e. negligent mothers, people leaving) I felt the need to post somthing on a lighter side. Do you burn incense? If so what variaties? I like to burn incense for a few different reasons and these are the varieties I use.
1. Opium. Its a moderatly strong incense that is kind of sweet smelling. I like to burn it when I'm cleaning. 2. Dragon's Blood. In my opinion, this is a light incense thats good for relaxing and reminds me of occult/alternative religion book stores. I think the name might be a type of brand label so different brands may call it something else. 3. Blend 22. I got this from a friend a while back. Not sure what it smells like but its very musky and strong. I like to burn it when i have ladies over. I love incense, I almost always have a stick burning, and have a rather large collection of scents. Even a few flowery ones, that I don't burn often. My favorite is probably a tie between Nag Champa and Dragon's Blood, both have a strong scent that relaxes me. And to be honest, incense is a perfect compliment to certain types of music. Pair it up with some blacklights and whatnot, you're pleasing a lot of senses at once. Which is just how I do shit. Four foot blacklight, blacklight string of christmas lights, lots of decorations. It all just goes hand in hand.
Strawberry incense is also actually surprisingly pleasant. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. You know what smells great? Frankincense (one of the gifts of the Three Wise Men). It's like a rock-like stuff that you put right into a fireplace and it has a great aroma, I really like it.

I'm not too big on burning incense or candles too often (it gets a little too strong for me), but sometimes small scented things are a nice thing to have around.
Sandalwood and lavender and nice scents I like in general (but especially around in the bathroom), and vanilla in the kitchen. Around the holidays I also like having cinnamon or spicy potpourri going on now and then. I also have some cherry blossom scented candles that I'll burn from time to time if I want a warmer scent and mood around the place. |

Never tried incense, but my wife loves scented candles.

Quote (Hamedo @ 22nd January 2007 07:54) Never tried incense, but my wife loves scented candles. Scented candles are more my thing, too. The scent isn't usually as heavy as incense. I used to burn rose or jasmine scented incense sometimes, but my husband doesn't like it. You could say that it makes him positively incensed. I used to really like incense, and scented candles. I still like using them sometimes, but in light scents.
I'm nervous about using incense or candles ever since my sister accidentally burned down our shared bathroom with a neglected scented candle when we were teenagers. It only takes a moment of distraction or forgetting. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I used to burn some of my mum's incense in my room back in the day. Now though I have a wood-stove in my flat, and my dad brought over literally a ton of cherry tree wood. It doesn't smell of cherries (unfortunately) but it makes the place smell lush. As good as any incense.

I'm not gonna lie, I hate scented candles, incense, smoke, and all that jazz. Even when I was a baby, I would scream my lungs out if my mom went into one of those candle stores holding me (true story). I suppose my favorite incense/candle/whatever is the one that has a smell so inoffensive that no one can actually tell it's being burned.
Also, it doesn't help that the younger sister of one of my highschool classmates burned her family's house down by misplacing some burning incense. I didn't even know the guy all that well, but damn, their house burned down.... -------------------- |

I suppose my favorite incense/candle/whatever is the one that has a smell so inoffensive that no one can actually tell it's being burned. I agree with laszlow; I hate incense, potpourri, and so on, and I have since my junior year. Somebody apparently spilled milk in our web page design course, and you all know how milk smells when it sours. Before class started the next day, to remedy the situation, some girl (who wasn't even in my class) sprayed potpourri crap everywhere - f***ing EVERYWHERE! I'm talking all over the computer towers, the keyboards, and so on. I came in the class and my eyes almost burned from the noxious potpourri mist. I could FEEL the residue all over the keyboards. The next day (and for a week after) I had the WORST sore throat I've ever had in my life. It was extremely painful to speak, and when I did, describing my voice as a croak is a nice way of putting it. I'm guessing the inhalation of a mix of chemicals isn't particularly healthy. I remember wanting to strangle that girl. -------------------- SPEKKIO: "GRRR...That was most embarrassing!" |

I don't know what kind of incense is in my house, I believe it's lavender.
The only time I use incense is after using the bathroom. I think it's curdious. Edit Quote I hate scented candles while I donm't hate scented candles, I hate when there are too many in a single room, gives me a headache. I can't stay in the store that sells them for even 3 seconds. My mother was and still is absolutely obsessed with burning incense. Has been since I was 3 or so. She's particularly fond of lavender or vanilla, and she almost always has some stick burning somewhere. It was pleasant at first, but now it just drives me crazy. I can't handle the constant smell of something so strong and the way it just builds and builds until it becomes so unbearable that I'm throwing the stick and whatever it was burning in out the window or flushing half of what's left of her stash of incense down the toilet.
I'll take Febreeze for the win. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I have to say that I can't stand incense. It could be because pretty much the only incense I've ever smelled is the 60s hippie crap like petouli (sp?). I swear incense always very similar to pot to me.
I do however, like scented candles and I would have to say that lavendar is my favorite with lilac coming in second. -------------------- Elena Indurain Currently Playing: Suikoden II |
