I voted for Edgar, because his regal look is very cool. As for the "bathing-suit armours" of Terra and Celes, here's my 2 cents from a historical background as well as from someone who knows a decent amount about armour.

1. From all of the cutscenes and pictures and such of the game, Terra and Celes aren't what one would refer to as armoured fighters. They are finesse fighters - like for example Robin Hood or the Three Musketeers. Robin Hood being the best example because he's an unarmoured swordsman in the era of full plate - and yet he can kick ass. Why? Because he's FAST and he knows how to use his speed.

2. Celes' outfit is very practical for movement. Her silvery cape also suggest mithril - it could be armoured, to stop attacks from behind. From the front, her sword, magic, and skill should keep her from getting hit. Terra's outfit ranks much lower for me in this case, because it looks too...formal.

Oh, and Celes' outfit in the cutscenes is a very typical fighter's outfit. I find it's way more practical than what she wears ingame, though it doesn't look near as cool.

If the characters were models on a runway, I would say Terra's. I like the colours and patterns, and the design.

However, it is completely impractical and weird for battle. I can see her escaping wearing that, and having it for a little while, but in the real world someone would have given her better clothing and armour. My favourite realistic outfit is Setzer's, although a trench may be hard to fight in, too. I don't know how well I'd do in mine, but then, he does just throw cards.
