I have just started this game on my pc, and so far I really like it. (I'm up to the point where I'm about to go to the fire crystal place, i just med cid, and I'm level 14) Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game ever, and I can't help but notice that tons of things from tactics came from this game. This is the earliest ff I've ever played though, so I don't know if earlier installments established these things (job system, support abilities). Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had any good tips they could throw my way as i adventure. thanks a bunch.

Don't forget that you can use the back row.
That's my basic advice. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I agree. FFT could almost be called FFV-2.
I guess you've figured this out, but when you switch jobs, you get the "Optimum" equipment for that job. If I were you, I'd double-check every time - otherwise you'll be wearing Bone Mail and Hex Rings instead of Protect Rings and Elven Mantles. I would go ahead and "Master" whatever job classes you pick instead of switching them later, because a lot of them have bonuses that can be applied elsewhere. Only Dancers and Freelancers can equip Ribbons, FYI. If I were you, I'd train one Bard, one Beastmaster and one Ranger for later. Their skills come in really handy. -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! I am impervious to pain! |

Learn to use the jobs strategically in battles. Not always are you going to get out of that fight even with a powerful Monk. You should master White Mage, Black Mage, and Summoner. These three mage classes are a real deal most of the parts in the game.
Also, Thieves can steal stronger weapons and armor earlier in the game, such as stealing the Mythril Sword from the Ice Soldier in the Worus Tower until you get to buy it at Karnak's Weapon Shop. Very useful to prevent ambushes 100% of the time and they can detect secret passages. I highly recommend mastering this in your first playthrough.. Quote Final Fantasy 1 and 3 (NOT THE SNES USA FF3) did have a job system, but lacked the ability system until Final Fantasy 5. I don't know if earlier installments established these things (job system, support abilities). This post has been edited by NeoEx-Death on 17th January 2007 23:15 |

Something I'd wished I'd done before I beat the game:
Learn to love your Mystic Knights. You won't ever equip the job after you have it mastered, but it's amazing how much better your muscle-headed sword swingers can damage after you start to understand the elemental weaknesses of your opponets. Spellblade is always an awesome secondary ability. -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! right now butz is a knight (and has been the whole time), galuf is a monk/white mage, lenna is a black mage, and faris is a mystic knight. I do pretty good, healing is the only problem i come across.

Been obsessing over this game the past while - it's fantastic!
Want to ask the more experienced amongst us what will probably be a very stupid question ![]() What exactly is meant to happen when you master a job? I've got a mastered geomancer (of all things...) but I don't get what that's meant to give me? Is the character meant to have all the abilities of the job automatically or something? |

When you master a job, you won't automatically have the abilities, but you'll be able to pick and choose which you want to keep. For example, you have a mastered Geomancer. You should be able to put !Gaia on that character now as a second ability, regardless of job. Actually, you can do that as soon as you learn it.
Some classes have bonuses that will transfer to your character once you have learned the ability. For example, if you learn Equip Axes (Berserker), your strength with an axe will be equal to a Berserker's. So to answer your question, there is no inherent bonus to mastering jobs, but the more abilities you learn, the more versatile a character you will have, in abilities, and the stat bonuses will round them out nicely. ![]() -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! actually, i think i may have the answer. I think when you master a class, all of the abilities from the class become inherent in your normal class. So if you master all the classes, I think your normal class is like uber-strong. Though I don't plan on taking the time to do this personally. The legendary weapons is all I ever go for in ff games.

LV 14? Wow. Don't overlevel, really ruins the game. Especially on your first time through.
The average is LV 15 for the Ancient Library, so I suggest you stick by it. ![]() |

Here's another tip, you might want to break up your characters' levels by killing off one or two, and then leveling up. Some disastrous effects can happen if they stay the same.

Average for the Fire Ship is normally about 15 or so. Job mastery provides two things: first, it gives your freelancer all the "innate" abilities of the class. Innate abilities might be the thief's back-attack prevention, the blue mage's learning, or the mystic knight's magic shell. Second, it grants stat bonuses to your freelancer class. The stat bonuses are a tricky thing, but essentially if a class has a better stat than the freelancer and you've mastered the class, you'll have the stat of the class. So if you were to master all the highest-stat classes (monk, thief, summoner I believe) you'd have the best stats in the game. All in all, mastery isn't THAT important, and you'll get plenty more AP later on if you're keen on mastering everything. What's more important through most of the game is having the right combination of abilities among your party. -------------------- Oh sure, I don't have to get kicked in the junk to activate it, but I like it anyway. -- Thief commenting on the difference between Throw and Blue Magic. |

So, really, EXP doesn't matter that much except for increasing your main HP and MP capacity. It also slightly increases your fighting stats, but it's not really that important since you'll get stronger weapons. This post has been edited by NeoEx-Death on 18th January 2007 22:05 |

I haven't finished my first play-through of FFV yet, but I find it best to just go your own way. I've tried other people's tactics and they don't work or they're not to my taste. I can't do something that I don't like.
I was wondering if I'm too under-levelled or something because I've been having a lot of problems with the random battles lately. I'm at the shrine place in the middle of the bridge in the 3rd world. My levels are: Bartz: 35 (knight/thief/dragoon/mystic knight) Lenna: 33 (summoner/white mage/time mage) Krile: 35 (blue mage/ninja/white mage/beastmaster) Faris: 35 (samurai/red mage/black mage/knight) --I know, the red/black mage thing seems dumb, but the red mage wouldn't level up fast enough. -------------------- Why, hello guys! your levels are fine, i'm just curious as to what classes you're using now.
i just went through there leve 31/32 last night. Boots, samurai, 2 swords Krile, Red Mage, white Faris-Ninja, smoke Lenna-Hunter, rapid fire if you're having problems with enemies us an ability like smoke or flee and breeze through. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I am level 18 and just got done with the ancient library. The library wasn't too easy, though it wasn't too hard either, but in a desert that I crossed along the way I fought these chimeras that almost killed me. So I wouldn't say that I'm too high of a level. But I really like the game, it's simple yet fun.

I know that, but overleveling is still a great way to ruin the experience of the game. I was just replying in shock at such a high level into the game, although he obviously must've rushed over part because he was only LV 32 at the Shrine, when I was 37. I dunno... To KingDelita, it is fun, and the plot is simple. Which is just a lovable thing about V. I usually leave the library at the same level, enter at 15 level at 18. The game is rather linear when it comes to leveling - their aren't many oppurtunities to boost your levels for a while. By the way those battles in the Shrine are easy as easy can be easy if you are just offensive, make sure to kill the Executioners off first though - apparently they are nasty... (you've probably passed it by now, but if you haven't this can help you). |

Here's another good one. I'm gonna put it in a spoiler box just in case you aren't interested in this sort of thing yet.
Be very sure to fully appreciate these cities: Possible spoilers: highlight to view It's not like they're gonna vanish or anything later in the game. Rikks Walz (City and Castle) Tycoon The Ancient's Library Search every inch of these places for things you don't want to miss. There really isn't anything vitally important, but for the gamer who wants as much stuff as possible, don't take these locations for granted. And a lot of that will go away before it goes away... Thta's Istory/Easterly Falls. You can get him later in the N-Zone if you missed him, but it is definitely far easier to get him from the former location.

You can't get to Ramuh without having Ifrit anyways, so that shouldn't be a problem.
And yea, !X-Magic is nasty. Two Jikuu/Black/White/Call spells every turn. Three if you use Quick as one of them (Quick + spell, spell + spell). Definitely worth it. Kinda takes the fun out of the game, like !X-Fight, but it's still very, very good. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |
