What are some other places to find good FF6 fanfics? ff.net has tons but how many of them are actually any good? I ask becuase I am in the process of writing one of my own and am looking for more good ideas and influences, as I have plenty but have not put my stuff into writing yet. I don't even have a title thought up.
I noticed that there are quite a few unfinished novel-length FF6 fanfics in the forums. The inevitable question is 'Why?' This post has been edited by Frozen_Aura on 16th January 2007 02:18 |

As somebody who took a good year to write a fic that isn't nearly as long as some of the ones on the forums here, I have to say, get off their backs.
It isn't always easy to write, and I think it's somewhat jerkoffish of you to not consider what the writer is going through on this one. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. Don't you be tarot-fied, It's just alot of nothing, so what can it mean? ~Frank Zappa Sins exist only for people who are on the Way or approaching the Way |

MogMaster,
I was merely commenting on older unfinished stuff that has not been updated for two years or so. I did recall that there was a thread in Special Fanfic Information about how there is some kind of a one-chapter-per-week "rule" (for lack of a better term) that the mods wish writers to abide by. That rule was more of a guideline IIRC. I don't think it's ever been enforced.
As a writer with a few sitting unfinished myself, it's not as such refusal, it's lack of ideas, direction, and crucially, time. Sometimes, they do just languish though, because perhaps the author has just grown tired with that story. I personally feel you should be welcome to start where you left off at any time though. Anyway, onto the actual question. I'm afraid, though, I know of only one place with FF6 fanfics other than here, and that's Icybrian's page. From what I read last time I was browisng there, they're of a high quality, possibly what you seek. Quite a few with mutliple chapters. Avoid FF.Net like the plague, I say. It has gems in there for certain, but too many terrors of the warp lie in wait for any sane man or woman to enter there and escape unharmed in body or mind. I can't reccomend the works of writers like L. Cully and Elessar on CoN enough for FF6 inspiration though, or for that matter any of those who have submitted fics to CoN. Though they may not be the length you seek, all the fics on the FF6 section here could very well hold a nugget of inspiration, something to make you plan a new idea. Maybe a few on other sections could to. I'll be honest and confess my own fics are probably less than inspirational though. Incedentally, you can leave the title waaaay to the end when you know what fits it properly. This kinda makes me want to clear out the trash and end my unfinished works now... Thanks Del S. I have heard of that site but what is its URL?
Yeah I will stay away from ff.net since its cleary disorgainzed in its presentation, lumping FF6 stuff into fics of the previous five games, resulting in 68 pages and a total of 1800+ works. Have you seen the FF6 fanfic collection at RPGclassics.com? I have only briefly scanned it and it really did not suit me that much. The multi-chaptered works in progress from L. Cully, Elessar, and Manoftyr are what inspired me. But I have been looking at a few other sources as well. In fact if you want some good ideas for a good FF fanfic it may actually be best to look at some non-FF stuff as well. |

It's icybrian.com.
Never seen RPG classics collection, as it's not exaclty a place I frequent too often. Non FF works are actually a major source for inspiration, really. Maybe looking at Necrons makes you want some relentless, fearless foe that doesn't seem to stop for anything, or perhaps you want an orginal character with a kind of attitude a little bit like Rorschach so create a person of moral absolutism with inconsistent choices. Just anything out there to grant an idea that works. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

Though I don't submit them anywhere, I love to write fanfiction and the best place I get my inspiration from is conversations with my friends. Sometimes, they'll say something about a character or something and it'll just click in my head, "there's a great idea!". Also, I do find that RPGclassics has great stories. I spent hours reading Final Fantasy fics there.
It is hard to finish fics once you start them, I have multiple unfinished ones kicking around in my room. Of course, the ones that I find easiest to write are really crazy ones that probably don't make much sense but I find funny anyways. -------------------- Why, hello guys!
