Normaly I wouldn't give two shnitzels about what that crazy guy is up to, but he gone and done something so far out of left field, it's stepping on right fields turf!
He's gonna make a movie about an animated tv show. This is so bizarre, I dont' know what to feel, let alone say. It's like when I found out Jame's 'Terminator, Abyss, $^$(ing TITANIC' Cameron (he's mentioned in the article too) was going to make a Battle Angel movie...IN 3D! I liked Sixth Sense, laughed off Unbreakable, loved Signs and ignored Village and Lady. This guy's been on a downward spiral, but that don't mean he don't got skillz. This could be just what the doctor ordered. On the other hand, he could foul this up major and I'd hate to see him ruin one of the best animated shows on tv right now. -------------------- |

I rather like Avatar, but not Shyamalan or his movies so much. Hopefully they'll stick to the source material and animation style, making the three-pic deal worthwhile.

I've loved all of M. Night's movies that I've seen (except for Sxth Sense, which I was told to avoid.) More interesting than this Avatar buisiness though is that he may direct one or two of the last Harry Potter movies.

It's rare these days to find a filmmaker with unique vision and a such a developed personal style. That is why I am a bit of a fan of recent Shyamalan films. Sometimes he is hit-or-miss with his vision (namely "Un-*bear*-able") and can definetly be accused of self-indulgence, but so can Hitchcock, Kubrick and Alejandro Jodorowsky. Not saying that he is quite at the same level as the aforementioned but he is in the same vein, certainly.
"Lady in the Water" was an exceptional outing by Shyamalan. It was delightful non-epic fantasy that featured some great ensemble acting. If you allowed yourself to enjoy the bedtime story and permit the self-indulgence, it was a pleasing work. I don't know much about Avatar. The kids in the group home I work at are quite enamored with it (pretend games involving characters from the cartoon) and in fact the enjoy Shyamalan's films. I think the thing that turns all of the critics of about Night is that all of his films are marketed as horror flicks. When they are taken as what they are: drama with a little suspense/thriller in there, they are great. And although it was different, Lady in the Water is a great movie...its really not cheesy at all.

My son and I watch Avatar. I think it's a well written story, though the animation is certainly nothing revolutionary. A live-action movie, though? I have my doubts. That arrow tattoo looks silly enough on a cartoon character.... I can't imagine the amount of suck it would have on a real person.
