Playoffs start tomorrow. Who ya' got?
NFC Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants I know the Eagles are the popular pick from the NFC right now, but I just don't trust their talent level right now. I know the Steelers show that it's great to have momentum on your side going into the playoffs, but I think they're going to stop playing over their heads before they can get to the Super Bowl. I do think they can get past the Giants, though, who are imploding. The Giants are just too banged up to pull off the upset. Eagles 21- Giants 13 Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys Both flawed teams right now, but I think the Cowboys are capable of winning the shootout. Neither team can stop the passing game, so both Romo and Hasselbeck should be able to light it up. I'll take the Cowboys, though, as long as T.O. doesn't drop any easy touchdown passes. Cowboys 41- Seahawks 37 AFC Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs I know I have a weak spot for the Colts, and I know the Chiefs best strength is the Colts main weakness, but I think the Colts can do some damage in the playoffs, possibly pull off this year what they couldn't do years where they were stronger. Mainly because I think the Colts don't have as much pressure as they have before. No one's expecting them to make it this year, so they can play like they did at the beginning of the year. Colts 31- Chiefs 19 New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Tom Brady has never lost a playoff game at home. He's not going to start to the Jets. Mangini may have outsmarted Belicheck once, but I don't think he can do it again. Patriots 17- Jets 6 For the record, and I don't know how I arrived at this decision, it just felt right, my early Super Bowl pick is Saints over Colts. Edit To be consistent with Sabin, my preseason pick was Colts over Eagles and my midseason pick was Colts over Bears This post has been edited by Gears on 6th January 2007 03:41 -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

Love this time of year. I'll unfortunately be working during Wild Card Saturday. But you bet your head that my ass will planted in front of the TV on Sunday. Here's what I'm thinking
Giants defeat Eagles I've been from one side of the internet to another and there isn't one person who gives the Giants a whiff of a chance to win, claiming inconsistencies for the Giants and momentum for the Eagles. This may be partially biased, but I really think that with what they've gone through, an amazing start and a horrid second half, I know what my team is capable of. The Eagles are a team that they can beat. If they faced the Boys or Hawks I would've been nervous. But Eli proved that he can win in Lincoln Field. That amazing 4th quarter comeback is still fresh in my mind. They have nothing to lose, which makes the Giants a dangerous team in my mind. And Jeff Garcia is going to plummet back to Earth any time soon, hopefully this week. Seahawks defeat Cowboys I agree with Gears and think this will be a shootout. But while the Boys do have a better defense, the Hawks have better weapons. Alexander is coming back into his all-pro form, and I trust Hasselbeck who has been there before and has the experience against Romo who hasn't even played an entire season making his first career playoff start. I think the actions of Darrell Jackson will match TO. Also taking into equation that this game will come down to a final field goal. And Josh Brown is starting to make a name for himself. Watch out, Vinetieri. You may have a challenger in the "most clutch kicker" department pretty soon. Chiefs defeat Colts I do agree that the pressure off the Colts gives them more ammo. But that's not going to help that porous run defense. Peyton will have to throw until his arm falls off to keep up with the points LJ will put up. Patriots defeat Jets What I've begrudgingly accepted over the last year or so is that you never bet against the Pats in the playoffs... at least not in the first round. Jets are a good story, but they are the most unfit playoff team in the whole circuit. My preseason Super Bowl pick: Giants vs. Ravens My midseason Super Bowl pick: Giants vs. Ravens My postseason Super Bowl pick: Seahawks vs. Chargers People scoffed at me when I said the Ravens, but it's actually not a bad choice if they can overcome the suffocating Charge. As for my now Seahawks pick, there is not a team that stands out to me in the NFC. If I went all homer and picked the G-Men, I'd be borderline delusional. The Eagles' wheels will fall off any time soon. The Boys don't have enough. And I'm just not convinced by the Saints or Bears yet. Not that I think the Hawks are the pinnacle of the NFC, but I like their offensive attack and their experience. And I usually don't pick the consensus favorite, like the Chargers this year. But the team is clearly dominant and does not seem to be rattled by the pressure of being the favorite. -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Quote (Dustin Wiind @ 5th January 2007 23:18) who cares if both of tom bradys top recievers from last year arent on the team? Go pats!!!! kinda scared of the division rivalry with the jets tho.. ![]() I don't like you very much right now. NFC Philadelphia Eagles v.s. New York Giants The Eagles have been playing a great season despite their biggest dissapointment in losing McNabb. The last time Phili took on the G-men, it was quite a game. The way I see it, the Giants are in a "we have nothing to lose at this point" kind of situation. They're backed up into a corner and while Eli might not have been playing to what he should be lately, I think this enviroment is exactly what he needs to start playing the game we all know he's capable of. Giants might be missing half their starting team, but defensively speaking they're still nothing to scoff at. I'm a fan of both teams despite rivalries, but I'm pulling for the Giants 100%. I can't let Barber retire without making more of an impact. Seattle Seahawks v.s. Dallas Cowboys This is going to be a fun game to watch. Personally, I'm no fan of the Cowboys and I'm not sure if my decision is based on that bias or the fact that I rate Alexander as a phenomenal player, but between him and the more experienced Hassleback, I'm picking the Seahawks to win. The Cowboys have been relying too much on an overinflated ego and the inexperienced Romo to get them through and T.O. has been coming up short a lot lately. That'll be the difference maker in this game. AFC Colts v.s Chiefs To be honest, I'm not crazy about either team and don't follow up on either of them. From the little that I've seen or read, I'm tthinking the Colts might just be able to pull it off. It's that "nothing to lose" kind of no pressure that fuels a team to run crazy plays that they'd normally never go for, which can throw off the defensive line and win games. They have to come off strong from the beginning though, or else the Chiefs will pick them apart and take this game. Patrisucks v.s. Jets Blind bias, I know that the Patriots have a better team and the home-field advantage but I'm still thinking the Jets can pull it off. They're the Underdogs in this match-up and you can never count the underdogs out. I mean, if the Patriots can lose to Chicago, then why can't the Jets pull off this win? Someone needs to kill Tom Brady. Go Jets. This post has been edited by Dragon_Fire on 6th January 2007 03:45 -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

19 yard field goal. It couldn't get any easier than that. I have to hate the Cowboys because of my allegiance to Big Blue (and the fact that the Seahawks are my #2), but I really do feel bad for Tony Romo. He's going to be maligned by the Dallas faithful all offseason.
In other news, what the heck happened, LJ? -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

what did happened to LJ. he might as well have sat on the bench.
but the weirdest part, it was against the Colts of all teams. Jets Vs. Pats The jets had one easy season, and they only beat one team with a winning record. The broncos should have been in over the chiefs and jets, but no Shanahan has to hold out to put Cutler in, the new guy did a great job adapting to the NFL rapidly. the pats have been inconsistent, but surprisingly they canhave a vicious running game. Pats 26 Jets 12 Go Seau Philly and New York eli manning dwindles as the season drags on. Jeff Garcia is doing a solid job. Colts vs Ravens
I'm going with the touch of Unitas on this one. Unitas played for the city of Baltimore, but the Colts keep his jersey. Unitas didn't want that. By the "Will of Unitas" Baltimore will win. Unitas' Ravens- 31 Manning's Colts-17 Chargers vs. the Patriots They're is a saying in the NFL that you're always secured a win with Tom Brady on your team, unless you're facing the broncos. The Boltman aren't the broncos. They do have holes, they're QB has been somewhat on the decline, This may be Seau's last season, and the patriots are not suffering from the injuries of last year. I'm going with the Patriots, who got the Jets back, they'll get the Chargers back for last year. Pats-30 Bolts-27 Phil vs. the Saints The Saints are the only team in the NFC that has not looked completely pathetic in any game (even with six losses), unlike the NFC east who managed to get not one, but three teams in the playoffs who all shared a slice of patheticness at one point. Philadelphia is on a roll and Jeff Garcia wants to usurp McNabb as starting QB. Sadly for him the Saints are well-rested men on a mission. New Orleans-34 Phil-19 Seattle and Chicago These two almost met last year, and also share some of the NFCs current curse of looking pathetic. The Seahawks just are not what they were last season, but at least now people can shut up about the curse of the superbowl losers. The bears D remained the Force to be feared in the NFL until a few injuries at the end of the regular season, and there offense has been so erratic I'm rolling two die to see how much they will score. Bears-31(with a standard deviation of 12) Seahawks 21 (take away 6 if the Urlacher factor kicks in) -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Well, I missed the Wild Card. My picks were Colts (predicted they'd hold LJ too because of Bob Sanders return), Pats, Eagles, and Hawks. All right, but all those teams were supposed to win so no big.
Divisional: Chargers vs. Pats I hate the Patriots. A lot. However, if I could be assured that both they and the Colts would meet in the AFC Championship and the Colts would bury them then I would root for the Pats here. But the Chargers are too strong so no need to go outside the box. SD 34 Pats 27 Colts vs Ravens A great matchup. The best O vs the best D of the 2000s. I don't know why the Ravens get so little hype. On ESPN the past two months it's been all Chargers, 10 stories a day about TO, and whoever the NFC flavor of the week is. I'm going it though, upset time. Manning takes another step in his storied career of the future. Colts 24 Ravens 20 New Orleans vs Philly Well, the entire country has basically already decided that whoever wins this game goes to the Super Bowl. The hype machines kill me. But I wasn't impressed by Garcia and Philly much at all. Bush and Brees shine. Saints 34 Philly 20 Chicago vs Seattle Well, the first game was fun. But this one will probably have a different feel. I was going to feel sick to my stomach no matter who we played until we win a playoff game. I'm not afraid of the Hawks though. They looked God Awful in the Wild Card round. I just hope our D shows up. I know Rex will. Colts vs. Ravens Those are the Colts I thought would show up. Plus they got Peyton's obligatory bad playoff game out of the way without losing. I've been impressed by the Ravens, but I hate Brian Billick, and don't think he can truly lead the Ravens to a win over a team with more talent, like the Colts. Colts 26- Ravens 14 Chargers vs. Pats I thought I'd be the only one picking the Pats in this one. I know the Chargers have everything going for them right now, and look like the most complete team. But there are two matchups I can't get out of my head: Tom Brady vs. Philip Rivers and Bill Belichek vs. Marty Shottenheimer. Rivers and the Chargers remind me a lot of Big Ben and the Steelers of 2 years ago, and I think Brady will find a way to chop them up the same way. The Patriots defense feasts on inexperienced QBs. Plus, Shottenheimer ALWAYS screws up in the playoffs. Patriots 27- Chargers 24 NFC Saints vs. Eagles I think the reason my gut tells me the Saints are going all the way is that they are such a well-balanced team this year. They can run and pass, play offense and defense when the situation calls for it, and definitely have karma on their side. The Eagles look nice right now (although definitely not unbeatable last night,) but I can't see them stacking up with the Saints right now. Saints 33- Eagles 17 Bears vs. Seahawks I'm really nervous for this game. I have visions of "bad Rex" showing up, being yanked after a single-digit passer rating first half, and Griese stepping in. I'm not a big Griese fan, I think he's at best average, and not capable of leading the Bears to the Super Bowl. "Good" Rex can, but I'm afraid his confidence isn't where it need to be right now. I just hope the defense can play the way they're capable of at mostly full strength (although Harris and Brown are huge losses.) As usual, I refuse to make a prediction for Bears games. -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

![]() In all seriousness... I don't know what to predict, but my gut says Seahawks. After last year, I think they want it more. Who I'm Pulling For: Da Bears, of course. i have been making very far fetched predictions lately, and im not stopping now!
Patriots 32 - 27 Chargers Brady explodes in the second half throwing for 2 TDs and catching one on a pass from Reche Caldwell. LT rushes for 2 TDs and catches another but throws an interception late in the game that costs SD the showdown. ![]() Ravens 13 - 2 Colts Freeney records the safety. McNair runs for a TD but throws 3 INTs; Ravens win nonetheless. Manning throws for 400+ yards with no TDs or INTs. ![]() ![]() Theres the AFC for now! 92% of these predictions are just playin on my part. the only thing taken seriously are the winners ![]() -------------------- "The answer is, of course, that it would be best to be both loved and feared. I agree with Hamedo. Superbowl champions will be the Chargers!
As you all probably know this will be their first superbowl championship....EVER. They are long overdue and have the best team this year. I've been a chargers fan since birth. Is anyone else shocked the Eagles didn't go for it on 4th and 15? I feel like I'd rather take my chances with a 4th and 15th than getting a 3 and out against Deuce and Reggie. The Saints running game is scary.

I'm 3/4 for this weekend, I did alright
New England vs. Indy Peyton's a pansy in the playoffs, the Patriots contained LT well, Vinatieri won't be able tog get close enough for 5 field goals this time, and the Patriots have a better passing game than the Ravens. Pats-27 Indy-9 Edit Any game LT is held to less than 150 yards, and 2 TDs or less, he was contained well. New Orleans vs. Chicago Chicago is very beatable, they D has some key injuries, the rush ins't very good, and rex Grossman finally got somewhere between awesome and horrendous. The Saints can play like no other, with a dual rush and deep pass threat, all they have to watch out for is Urlacher. And the Saints D is always Strategically adapted to each team. Saints-31 Bears-19 This post has been edited by Cloud_Strife510 on 15th January 2007 01:24 -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Colts in the Super Bowl? Never thought I would be predicting that this year. But I think it's going to happen this time around. Indy 20, Patriots 13
I think the Saints have the magic going right now. Plus Grossman sucks. Saints 27, Bears 17. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? Grossman wasn't that bad today. The interception was more Moose's fault than Grossman's, and Rex came up with some big passes on third downs, including the one that set up the game winner. If the Bears hadn't won that game, all the blame wouldn't have been on Grossman. Thank God for Robbie G, though. After that kick, we all stayed in the stadium for about 30 minutes chanting his name. It was incredible.
The Saints scare the mess out of me though. They controlled the ball and the clock prefectly against the Eagles who definitely have a better rush D than the Bears right now. They miss Harris and Brown so much, and some key players (*cough*Urlacher*cough*) aren't really stepping up. Urlacher needs to play much better than he did today if the Bears are going to win next week. And Hester, please don't touch the ball anymore. It's just not worth the risk. As for the game I can predict: AFC Colts vs. Patriots I've been picking the Colts to come out of the AFC all year, for different reasons each time. The possibility of them matched up with the Patriots in the AFC championship hadn't occured to me, though. It's so hard to pick against Bellichek in the playoffs, and he has owned Dungy and Manning in the past. But the Colts D is playing lately like a Dungy coached D, and they couldn't have picked a better time. Plus they finally have the home field for this showdown. But the real key? I think Vinatieri comes up big with a clutch field goal to beat the Patriots. Poetic justice. Colts 27- Patriots 24 (That seems to be a recurring score in the playoffs.) -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

Sabin has said it repeatedly in chat and I fully agree with him. If it comes down to a Bears v.s. Patriots game for the Superbowl, just not watching it this year. I can't believe how close both yesterday's games got, considering the level the teams were playing at. By all means, the Chargers could and should have torn the Patriots apart, but their clumsyness and inability to convert on 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2 was absolutely ridiculous. Especially when you consider the way they were managing their running plays right through the Patriots defense for the majority of their attempts. God, I hate the Patriots.
I won't even touch the Bears v.s. Seahawks game. New Orleans v.s. Chicago I'm giving it to New Orleans. I've never gotten behind them but I'll support anyone (bar only Patriots) to get them out this year. Overall, I think they've got a much more consistent team anyways, and they've been playing impressively all season. Saints 21- Chicago 14 Indianapolis v.s. New England I hate the Patriots. With every fiber of my being, I wish Tom Brady would spontaneously combust every time I hear his name or see his face. I don't care for the Colts, and lord knows with my luck, the Patriots are probably going to beat them at the last moment just to spite me, but I can't give up hope that they'll be taken out of the Playoffs here and now. Colts might now have the defensive line that the Chargers or the Cowboys had, they might now have the offensive skill to match the Patriots scoring power, but it seems that straight up stats mean nothing this season anyway, so Go Colts! I'm going to be tearing out my hair during this match, I know it. Colts 23- Patriots 21 -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I fully disapprove of these championship games.
As if I needed another reason to dislike the Bears, now I have one. Knocking off one of my favorite teams after they played a pretty good game. I now have a personal addendum against Robbie Gould. Screw you, man! As for the Patriots and Chargers, ... ugh. That was an ugly game. I don't have any heart or attention span left for the playoff games enough to make any sort of predictions. However, it is most likely that I'll be watching the games seeing I have the day off. Maybe I'll try to pick up an extra shift next Sunday. It's basically come down to four teams that I really don't like. Saints are the least hated on team, so I guess I'll be rooting for them. The only thing I really have against them is them knocking the Rams out of the playoffs in 2000. The matchup of the Super Bowl is really going to decide how I'm going to take in the game. Colts/Saints - The two lesser of four evils. This being the outcome, I will go about my annual ritual and head to my friend's yearly Super Bowl Party Patriots/Saints - Watched in solitude, possibly on mute while I fudge away on something of a better use of time. Colts/Bears - Man, I hope that I work on February 4th. Patriots/Bears - My television will remain in an off-position. Seriously, I didn't think there could be a matchup worse than Pats/Eagles from a few years back, but I stand corrected. At any rate, I'm done bitching and moaning. It's now time to turn my attention to the NHL. Go Habs! -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

I don't have the guts to tell them I picked the Patriots to win. It was sad watching the game. I'm gonna go with:
Pats 24 - Colts 10 1) Cause I'm anti-Manning 2) Cause I love watching the Colts fail year after year 3) Cause I'm anti-Manning Saints - Bears is much tougher, there are like 4 different teams that could possibly show up to that game. I'm gonna give it to the Saints though they just look really hot right now. Saints 27 - Bears 24 (popular score indeed) -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

Quote (Sabin @ 15th January 2007 12:15) As if I needed another reason to dislike the Bears, now I have one. Knocking off one of my favorite teams after they played a pretty good game. I now have a personal addendum against Robbie Gould. Screw you, man! Just curious, what's up with all the hate against the Bears? I understand hating the Patriots, what with the dominance and all, but the Bears have had very few good years lately. There's not Ray Lewis-like hateable character on the Bears...maybe Tank Johnson, but he's not that important of a player anyway. So I'm just curious where all the animosity comes from. Edit I didn't mean for this to come off like you're unjustified for hating them or anything. My dislikedness toward the Bears may be a little bit more than I'm letting on. I think I'm coming off that I choke babies whenever they get a point or 3 or 6. That's not the case. Pats are always #1 on the Bash list. But the Bears are a close 3rd (2nd being the hated, loathed, despised Eagles). It's not unfounded, though. Here's a short list of reasons for my animosity.
-The absolute biggest reason is because my roommate for my freshman year of college was a big Bears fan. If we were in any conversation, he'd somehow make the subject change to the Bears. Whenever I tried to talk about just football in general, he would always chime in with something Bears related. The thing I hated him for the most was him constantly comparing Urlacher and Strahan, usually something negative about Strahan. We were watching a Giants game on Monday Night Football, and Strahan got a sack. I cheer while he just said "Psht, Urlacher would've forced the fumble". Dumb crap like that. By the time the football season ended, I was so sick of hearing about them. -Likewise, the 1985 Bears have to be the most oft-talked about team of the past in any sport, and while I acknowledge them as probably one of the best teams ever, I'm sick of hearing about it. -Mike Ditka was a great coach, but he wasn't THAT great. -The Rams have tanked ever since Lovie Smith left as their defensive coordinator. -I don't particularly like any team in the NFC North. But I am a fan of Brett Favre (Though I do firmly believe he should've packed it in a year ago) and root for the Pack given a particular matchup. -I've always hated Rex Grossman. That's going back to his college days in Florida. As for how I came to hate Grossman, that I don't remember. But Grossman taking Kyle Orton's job, who I loved watching at Purdue, certainly didn't help. -"Daaaaa Bears" is only funny when the Super Fans do it. -This year especially enhanced them on the list, starting with them humiliating the Giants. -Ever since preseason when I looked at the schedules, I was enraged at the Giants' absolutely brutal schedule when in comparison the Bears got a seemingly tissue-soft schedule. -And now, them knocking out the Seahawks. But hey, football is one of the only sports where the list of teams I dislike outweighs that of those that I love, like, and am indifferent toward combine. Hell, the Saints are even on the dislike list, though they could move up to indifference if they win the Super Bowl and keep Brady, Peyton, and Grossman from winning it. -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |
