Heh, that article was the funniest thing I read all weekend.

I can't remember it all, but didn't it say somewhere that they thought Prof. Oak was a real person? I couldn't stop laughing for a good few minutes.

Edit
On second thoughs, I kinda get Del S' point. It's still a lot of people, though.

Finally, speaking as an avid fan of Pokemon, the whole debate about "satanical" Pokemon is utter nonsense. If you even think about it, Japan is NOT Christian, so how can they even worship Satan? Second, the games are about good defeating evil - I'm an Atheist, so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the moral of the Bible? Third, I've played it for five years, and I've never felt the urge to sacrifice a goat or anything.

LMFAO!

That article is stupid, just don't worry about it. When I watched Pokemon years ago I never had the feeling either. Maybe we're immortal or maybe the people who wrote those articles are just thick in the head. It's hard to tell the right one isn't it?

Well, many Christians (my church being on of them but they don't take it to the extreme) or it may even say it in the bible itself, use the phrase "if you're not with him, then you are against him." so really not even choosing a side has you pretty much on Satan's side because you are not with God, jesus, etc.

Plus, pokemon is a great example of capitalism, which means it's not socialism, which, in American eyes, means it cannot be evil and anyone opposing pokemon is against capitalism and ergo a COMMUNIST! So not only are they child-endagering fundementalist luantics they're communists too!!!1!

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but what you said there has at least some semblance of a point, if not more.

Honestly, it kind of worries me that there are sensible, intelligent parents out there that actually believe these sort of things. At the very least they aren't trying to ruin it for the rest of us.

Actually, there aren't. They sure as hell are not sensible, not way are they intelligent, and calling them parents is debateable.

Hamedo, to me, to have become an Atheist and then realise that God "exists" will always be a sudden change. After all, to a christian, had he not "lost" God and then "found" him again? He had resisted it and one night just broke and admitted what I personally regard a lie to be the truth. I knew he was raised a christian, but I also knew he became atheist around the age of 14. Still, this isn't about faith, we're all free to believe what we like, no matter if we think something utterly stupid like, say, pokemon is the devil.

And their line of thinking probably rolls that," even if that does lead to us being laughed at by people on the internet, but not that we care because clearly, we are in the right and raising our children to be sane balance individuals who won't be in the thrall of Satan with their free thinking opions on religion that can conclude the existence or non existence of God, Allah, Vishnu... That free will thing God gave us and simultaneously keeps denying us if you ask some people. Which in my eyes he is not denying us, because he was never there to give it to us.

It's about time someone came out and said it. Lately I've become more and more distressed about books like Harry Potter and video games like Pokemon (if not all video games) subverting our children towards Satanism. The woman's grandson is a prime example of how dangerous this rampant Godlessness can be. The popularity of these dangerous materials is further evidence of Satan's power over humanity and how dangerously close to Armageddon we are treading. I continue to pray that the Godless demons putting forward Satan's dark message are exposed for the creatures they are and put to trial for that which they have wrought.

Uh.... wow..... :rolleye:

Damn.... Just when people couldn't get any dumber. People really need to loosen up about things like this. That gives christians a bad name when it comes to this.

What? Later on they're going to say that the old school Final Fantasies have "satanism" and "evil sorcery" just because there are Black Mages? Come on...

I'd laugh my ass off if they even mentioned anything about Batman and Dark Knight Cecil. "They both do evil things that deal with sorcery and black magic"

Rephrase, on rock-and-roll in general.

There is a reactionary response to just about every new fad anyway, and Pokemon is no exception.

The power of Barry Scott is evil indeed.

One thing I noticed about this article is that they dont talk about the positive stuff. Ya'know the saying "Think Positive!" well obviously these guys dont, like cmon, Be the Best you can be is one positive thing. Dont be a bystander and let crooks steal stuff. Oh and when they said that Jessie and James cross dress (whenever they wear disguises) it's only for "humor" (lol) gotta remember KIDS.

Good Lord, how old is this article?

Also, environmentalists, animal lovers, tree-huggers, etc, etc, etc should be outraged by Pokemon more than anyone. It's basically a game of domesticating wild animals and training them for the equivalent of a dog/cock fight.

Ignorance and fear are fun when religion is involved!

Spark awareness in a young child with comments such as, "That monster looks mean!" or "That creature reminds me of a dragon," along with "Did you know that in the Bible, serpents and dragons always represent Satan and evil?"

For starters, if you tell a kid a Pokemon looks mean, they'll use it more... DUH! The "mean" ones have the good attacks!

Secondly, Dragonite is such a hardcore Satan-worshipful character... I mean, those big, happy eyes, and that almost smile he has. That's Satan material right there.

Quote
What if they carry their favorite monsters like magical charms or fetishes in their pockets, trusting them to bring power in times of need?

I love how they say "fetish." Yes it's used correctly, but a more common usage is anything physical or non-sexual required to achieve sexual arousal. Way to double meaning yourself. And in that sense, Pokemon is NOT.

Quote
She is right. For instance, any child exploring the most popular Pokemon websites " 2 will be linked to a selection of occult games such as Sailor Moon, Star Wars, and others more overtly evil.

More overtly evil!!! Soon they'll be toting D20s with them at all times, ready at any moment to roll for initiative.

Why would you even mention Sailor Moon? blink.gif If anything, those middle-schoolers with their crystal makeup just made it fun to learn the planets in the solar system. Although, put it in a Barenaked Ladies song, and you might have a problem...

... oh wait... tongue.gif

Quote
Occult role-playing games teach the same dangerous lessons. They also add a sense of personal power and authority through personal identification with godlike superheroes.

Lastly, yeah. Dangerous. God forbid we instill the idea in a child that even the little guy from the most po-dunk secluded village on the planet could aspire for greatness. The thought of inspiration for greatness scares little minds. And when I say "little minds" I'm not talking about the kids.

It's funny though. I don't remember which psychologist it was, but one of em came up with the idea the unquestioned devotion to a religion shows lack of mental development. It was displayed by applying each stage of development to wether or not you felt it was safe to steal a serum you couldn't afford if it had the potential to save a life. The deeply religious stage was only 4 of 5.

Thinking on it, I'm surprised they don't attack MMORPGs. I played Runescape for a while (go ahead, laugh) and I can tell you, that game has so many things that they could twist into Satanic references that they wouldn't actually have to stretch it so much. They stretched Pokemon quite a bit here.

As for other ones...I don't play WoW, but just the name World of Warcraft..well, "God did not make a world of war! He made a world of peace, joy, etc. etc." I dunno, I don't know it well enough.

It really disgusts me, but these same people that dis Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings (and Pokemon) will gush over Chronicles of Narnia, just because its got some Christian allegory in it. This pokemon pamphlet to me, a Christian, is disgusting.

Whats funny about that is C.S. Lewis was an atheist.

Actually, C.S. Lewis was a Christian, but his buddy, Tolkien, was not. I don't see any Christian symbolism in the lord of the rings, but I see it more so in narnia with the Lion representing the "Lion of Judah", our God. As with Harry Potter, I won't go see it simply because they used a genuine satanic spell book for the movie. I saw lotr cause it didn't, but it's not one of my favourite movies, and I don't watch it anymore. Like I said, i saw no symbolism anyway. Mark my words, I have nothing against those who like these movies. I am a Christian, I think pokemon is harmless, heck, i was playing the game the other day.I don't see the movies for one simple reason, they suck. And I do think its ridiculous how some Christians act... pokemon's harmless while shows like south park more blatantly blasphemy Jesus. I think they could spend their breath more wisely. I'm done.

Whatever is popular is considered contraversial. Harry Potter is always being slammed, but their has to be many more children/teen books that are less Christian.

Did you read the ENTIRE thread? Because it looks like you missed Del's post.

You don't see Christian symbolism in Lord of the Rings? Okay, I understand it's not as evidently a reference to Christianity as Silmarilion, but hey, it speaks of Christian ideals: fighting and rejecting the evil in oneself, sacrificing yourself for a cause, etc.. It shows what greed of power can make out of a human (the Ringwraiths). It's full of metaphors and references, not only to Christianity, but also to some social changes that went about during Tolkien's life. You just have to read into it. If you can only spot something so blatant as Aslan the LION being "the Lion of Judah", then I daresay you need to excersize what's in your skull a bit.

Also, you speak of a "real satanic spellbook" in a Harry Potter movie which one? (Movie? Book?) I didn't get it.

I'd like to point something out-

At one point, the Catholic Church, when Pope Creepy the IV wasn't in office, The church was leaning towards the "like" column with JK Rowling. The Church gets alot of heat, when most of the shit coming directed at Rowling is from protestants.
