Actually, IMO, it would be rubbish stand-alone. I'm a fan of RTS games, and rather like a lot of variety with an army, and like the idea of an FF RTS because there are hundreds of different options with a single setting usually.

What honestly can you have with these two? You can build a nest for chocoboos and build different coloured birds... all of whom can merely peck the enemy. Moogles? One type, and they can use swords and maybe have a "jump" option like assault marines and their like in DoW. And a mere two races. Only C&C seems to get away with only 2 armies these days, and they might have 3 come C&C3, and had 3 with Generals. Dawn of War has SEVEN races, and has the option to add a further two from the 40k background (Tyranids and Dark Eldar) as well as various further imperial factions (Daemonhunters, Witchhunters, Xenohunters, etc...) not to mention variant armies like Lost and the Damned, Ork Speed Freakz, Imperial Armoured Companies, Imperial Doctrines, Space Marine chapters, Eldar Craftworlds, Harlequins, Exodites, Kroot Mercenaries, etc... Considering the fact the competition has such a huge scale, how can a mere two races with little options hope to attract Starcraft, AoE, C&C, and DoW fans?

If an FF RTS ye seek, there are far better settings as soon as you have the guts to expand the world beyond the George W. Bush geography outlook. FF4 has distinct countries that would have different styles of play, Baron's air forces against Damcyan's hovercraft cavalry, Fabul's monks, Mysidia's mages, Eblan's Ninja's, Silveria's... er, midgits, and Dwarven Tanks.

FF6 also has this, Vector using their armoured cavalry and well equipped infantry against Figaro's technology, Doma's Samurai, Thamasa's magics, etc...

FF7 had a war mentioned and it would only take a decent imagination to produce an RTS using any engine, FF8, the technological terrors of Esthar against the Galbadians, SeeD and other nations,FF9, Alexandria's ground superiority against Linblum's aerial forces and the Burmecian Dragoons. Hell, even FFX-2 could be a setting if you simply start a civil war between all three factions. Come to think of it, who says there can't be more than one game covered by an FF RTS? IMO, 7, 8 and X-2 offer the best possible settings for Modern/near future RTS, 4 is really the only choice for middle ages combat, 6 would be late victorian,

At best, a Choco-Moogle war would be a secret campaign in a much larger game IMO, nothing more than a laugh. It can't stand alone, unless it's aimed at very small children and simply has defeated units run away.

I already did this topic back in the day, but I won't link to it because it was back during my younger and more stupid days.

I've never been HUGE fan of Modern World RTS games, where you can get tanks and stuff. The best Midieval RTS I played was Age of Empires II. I think the AoEII gameplay style would fit really well in to FFIV, and I retain that it might be the only RTS I would ever buy with the FF name attatched to it.

6 would be late victorian,

I've never heard of an RTS that covers the time period, unless you count the Imperial Age in Empire Earth. Using FFVI could be a good idea.

Okay, to be frank, I hate spin-offs of major series. I would be furious if they released an RTS of FF, and it would take quite a bit to convince me to buy it. I suppose though, I'd choose a setting based around FFVII if I had to choose, because Shinra offer a decent army. The problem would be, who'd be the enemy? The only major faction I can think of is Wutai (and maybe the Cetra?).

Personally, I prefer RTS's (I completely give up on the grammar) set in modern/futuristic times, most likely because I prefer aliens and mechs to catapults. Though I do like AoE II a bunch. I love Dawn of War, even though I've only played it a few times at my cousin's house.

Oh, and finally:

I do like the FFVI RTS idea, though. Moogles and chocobos suck as standalone characters.

See recent "s' or S's" topic for reference. shifty.gif

What would Moogles and Chocobos fight about anyway? They both seem like cultures that keep to themselves. Outside of the fact that Chocobo's have no culture. Unless you consider sitting in your aptly titled Chocobo forest and waiting for someone to give you gysahl greens, you say "Wark" and the funny music begins...

"One day, Mog needed to get across the desert to buy some Kupo nuts. He, in the usual fashion, presented some greens to a nearby chocobo. The Chocobo angrily exclaimed "Wark" and chocokicked Mog in his *kupos*. Mog went back to the moogle village, vowing to burn down the chocobo forest and to get general revenge for being refused a ride be the chocobo. Here, would begin a war that would last for centuries. The epic struggle between Moogle and Chocobo. Now, you can choose your side and prepare yourself for Moogle Vs. Chocobo: Total War."

If it was made, you could have the FFIX moogle (Kuppoe or whatever his name is) and Choco having a kind of tragic friendship in the middle. That would be a genius storyline.
