The Cid thread made me think that there is no "Favorite FF Character" thread, so I figured what the hey. Who's your top 10? I'm just gonna include good guys and bad.
10. Rufus Shinra (FFVII) A cunning, cool looking, ruthless guy. I thought he was one of the better villians of the series. 9. Cyan Garamonde (FFVI) A loyal, dedicated, old-fashioned retainer. One of my favorite scenes of the game to this day is him watching the dawn when you retrieve him in the WoR. 8. The Turks (FFVII) Even though they weren't really main characters, they were pretty badass. And the suits are just a lovely touch - bosses with style. 7. Kefka (FFVI) A truly whacked-out and insane guy, but very well developed and well scripted. He truly makes you sick at some points in the game. 6. Squall Lionheart (FFVIII) Okay, noone else seems to like Squall, but I think he has some really courageous and great moments in FFVIII. Plus his gunblade and old-school leather bomber jacket make him the coolest looking FF character in my book. 5. Adelbert Steiner (FFIX) While a blithering idiot at times, Steiner becomes a well-versed and truly great character by the end of the game. 4. Sephiroth (FFVII) Probably the best video game bad guy ever. 3. Cid Highwind (FFVII) This foul-mouthed, courageous, spear-wielding pilot is hilarious and loveable from the outset. 2. Auron (FFX) Mysterious and dark, unwavering and confident, Auron is not a man I would make my enemy. 1. Edgar Roni Figaro (FFVI) Take a gander at my av. Nuff said. -------------------- "Hit hard, hit first, hit often." --Adm. William "Bull" Halsey, USN |

10. Zell- he'd be higher but I hate that punching the floor crap. 9.Shadow- gotta love a guy covered in cloth from head to toe (except GoGo- to annoying) 8.Kefka- the dude was evil no doubt about it. 7.Locke- "That's Treasure Hunter"-- sure Locke whatever you say. 6.Palom & Porom- I look at these guys as one character since you always see them together. 5.Kain- gotta love a dragoon 4.Cid Highwind- love the way he lights that dynamite 3.Cloud- gotta love that "don't care about no one but me even though I don't know who 'me' is" attitude. 2.Squall- kinda reminds me of well... me. 1. Sephiroth- has there even been someone with a cooler dimeaner? -------------------- "Son of a submariner" Â Â Â Â Â -Kefka |

Vivi Orunitier (He's so small and cute, but he packs quite a punch) 6. Lulu (Can we say hott) 7. Garnet (More with the long hair than short) 8. Sabin (Strong and humble) 9. Tifa (She's a very nice girl) 10. Yuna (Pretty much because she has cool eyes and can summon Aeons) -------------------- "The Master of Past, Present, and Future has returned." |

Alrighty then...
1. Cid (IV) Ohh Yeah!  He rocks so much he defines rocking. 2. Yang (IV) Again, he rocks alot.  Besides, he yells "Achooo!" as a war cry!  THe Enemy says "bless you" then gets punched in the face.  Brilliant! 3. Barret (VII) Big, very big, and has a gun for a arm... He's a bunch of firsts in one big angry dude.  1st gun, first swearing, 1st black guy.  I, of course, can relate to him, he's confused about Meteor and Sephroth, and I'm always confused about math and phyisics. 4. Jecht (X) He's a real jerk, but he really kinda cool.  I wonder if Jecht is better then Tidus at Blitzball...why don't they make FF-X0 or something?  I'd rather know what happend to Jecht in Spira... 5. Cyan (VI) The Big man himself.  Enough said. 6. Steiner (IX) The other Big man, he made me laugh so hard alot, that I swore I busted a lung.  I loved it when he jumped up and down and 'clanked'  ![]() 7. Terra (XI)  Jebus, was she an interesting character.  A little unrealistic perhaps, but still... 8. Rikku (X)  Her attack was USELESS!!!!!  But she was hilarious!!! 9. Yuffie (VII)  Just when you think you got her character down, she does something that completely skews your idea of her.  SHe was also funny and unpredictable. 10.  Wakka (X)  He really rocked in Blitzball.  In battle he rocked some more.  But...outside of battle and blitzball...his personality was a little lacking. I eventually got that he was the 'thick skulled type' Besides he says 'Ya' every two lines, ya?  ...But he doesn't shave, but also doesn't have any idea on what to do with it!!!  MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!  IF TIDUS CAN REMAIN CLEANSHAVEN, SO SHOULD WAKKA!!! AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! uh sorry... Don't worry, Auron was a close 11th...and don't get me started on Tifa/Sephroth/Locke/Kain, they weren't even close.  Sorry If I offended anyone out there. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. 1-Auron(FF10). Moody people with RGS's (Ruddy Great Swords) rule, and the only character worthwhile in 10, IMO.
2-Vincent Valentine(FF7). moody people with rifles AND a jekyll and hyde complex rule! 3-Vivi (FF9)- small people who can bring down aircraft with their minds deserve respect. before you say he didnt do it in game, he could just cast death on the pilot or set fire to the fuel or the deck in the case of the airships of 9 4-Barret (FF7) 'Ah pity the fool' oh no wait thats Mr T. i half expected him to hate flying... 5-Steiner (FF9) proved to me the bonus of Tactical dreadnought armour by showing how poor the old stuff was. 6-Sephiroth  (FF7) cause Evil People are just misunderstood. also one of the greatest villans ever, beaten only by Abaddon the Despolier and Darth Vader 7-Cecil (FF4) cos he was kinda cool in his own way 8-Irvine (FF8) the rifle would have got him a better place but the choked on the damn shot! 9-Armarant (FF9) OMG! a beatnik who kills people! sweet! 10- Aeris (FF7) as i like dying races a lot-a fter all i like Eldar and they lsot a whole friggin Empire, the cetra only lost one world. and their lives of course. i bet Jenova was slaneeshi.. ahem, sorry, 40k/FF7 paralell based rambling -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

For sake of sanity, I'll stick with playable and semi-playable characters.
10. Vivi - The diminuitive little black mage packed some serious magical artillery, and his character development was one of the best in the series. I enjoyed his end of the story because, above all, he was actually a likeable character, and I truly felt sorry for him throughout his struggles. Double Black Trance rocks, too. 9. Mog - There's just something thrilling about having a moogle as a playable character, and Mog showed us that the cute, fuzzy critters are no slouches in combat. With useful Dance techniques early on and frighteningly high defense (courtesy of the Snow Muffler) later, Mog was a mainstay in my group. He had a funny, twisted personality, too, and it's really crazy to see him boss Umaro around. 8. Mustadio - FFT's Engineer made a great addition to the party. His plucky, hopeful attitude really played a foil to the general melodrama of the game's plot, and he had quite an endearing personality. I liked his outfit, too, and his reliable Snipe skills and long-range finesse meant endless headaches for every one of my opponents. 7. Rydia - Another example of the green hair rule, Rydia the Summoner (or Caller, if you will) was an interesting character. She's admirably strong-willed, considering the traumatic experiences of her childhood, and she was a fantastic attacker, with a combination of potent black magic and wildly powerful summons. 6. Tifa - A nice girl through and through, Tifa really won me over with her endless devotion to the cold and undeserving Cloud, and her constant, unwavering notions of compassion and determination. She's got some pretty powerful Limits, too. 5. Blank - What's this? A semi-PC so close to the top of the list? You better believe it. Blank is easily my favorite character from Final Fantasy IX; I'd have given up any one of the main characters to get him in the party permanently. He's just got that mystique surrounding him, with a devil-may-care attitude that makes him irresistably cool. Despite his lack of screen time, he really gets a lot of subtle development; his actions in Evil Forest in the beginning of the game really say a lot about his personality. 4. Kain - Easily my favorite character from FFIV, Kain is a serious exception to the rules. He starts off as the hero's best friend, floats around the line between good and evil, and comes back a changed man. You can really feel the inner conflict around him, and it's far more subtle than Cecil's all-too-obvious Dark Knight to Paladin transformation. His Jump skill was extremely useful, to boot. 3. Terra - My favorite main character from any Final Fantasy, Terra is one of the few RPG heroines who manages to mix physical power with emotional vulnerability to become a truly memorable and sympathetic character. She manages to be thoughtful and confused without being whiny, which still impresses me. And I've said it before, so I'll say it again: green hair rocks. 2. Auron - Mysterious, cunning, and possessive of an uncanny, experienced wisdom that transcends universal boundaries, the Legendary Guardian is one cool character. He has a lot of intriguing secrets, and always seems to be one step ahead of the rest of the party. That aside, he's easily one of the most powerful characters in battle, supplemented by his useful Break techniques and obscenely strong Overdrives. You have to love all the samurai movie references in his mannerisms, too, from the sake jug to the empty sleeve. 1. Shadow - The quintessential antihero with a past. Shadow practically defines the role of the mysterious ninja, playing it to a brilliant extent that similar RPG characters have yet to match. His haunting dreams and hidden sorrow made him one of the most memorable characters in the game. All exposition aside, he just looked cool! The mask, the outfit, the crazy Throwing and swordfighting skills. He was a serious contender in combat, and he gets even more points for his canine companion, Interceptor. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Sayers "The truly remarkable thing about television is that it allows several million people to laugh at the same joke and still feel lonely." ~T.S. 10. Cid Highwind. Rough and vulgar, but caring on the inside. And a hell of a fighter (dragoons!)
9. Adelbert Steiner. Gotta love a big angry (and clumsy) knight. He was actually really strong though. 8. Cyan Garamonde. Rough past (family), rough present (fighting his dreams), rough future (rebuilding Doma). 7. Lulu. Strong character and fighter. 6. Mog. The little moogle that could. 5. Kain. Well he's a dragoon with a tough attitude and good development. Great. 4. Shadow. Maybe underappreciated on my part, but his story really is great. 3. Tifa Lockheart. How can you not love Tifa? 2. Locke Cole. Feels like he has to make up for past mistakes, and hurts himself over it. Tries so hard to be a hero, but truly cares deep down. 1. Vivi Orunitier. Like a lost child, you love him from the beginning of the game. Not to mention his talent in black magic. Amazing storyline development, and is forced to do a lot of soul-searching after the Kuja incident. Gotta love him. -------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas? Lou: I think so. Wiggum: Let's roll. |

Ok, I don't really like top tens, so i'll list who I like, in no specific order : Red XIII, Shadow, Cloud, Cecil, Sephiroth, Locke, Bibi, Jidane, Gilgamesh, Kain, Ramza, Gau, Auron, Cid (FF VII), Rikku.
And as for my favorite, it's tough; I'd go with Shadow. Because he is. |

Evaluated completely in terms of character, not usefulness...
10. Cactaurs as a whole entertain me more than most player characters. I love them. They laugh when they appear, when they leave, when you hit them, when they hit you. They're so cute and cuddly, but they can ice a party member in one round. I love the cactaurs even more than I love the moogles. 9. Rydia deserves to be on this list for sheer coolness. Well, she had green hair, too. But seriously--she developed pretty well throughout the game, she wasn't your typical "oh, help me, save me, I am so helpless" girly girl (coughTerracough>_>), and she gave Edge some nice attitude. I think she and Lulu are related through some bizarre space-time overlap of their different respective universe. 8. Wakka was always so clueless. And I loved the accent. 7. Cecil is the best-developed protagonist, in my opinion. He was noble and stuff, but definitely not one-dimensional, and I really liked him because of that. 6. Steiner was the only thing I liked even a little bit about FFIX. He was funny. 5. I really liked Barret, for some reason. He was funny, and that's always a plus, but...I dunno. Maybe it was just that he didn't like Cloud. 4. I'm one of the world's women who would mourn the passing of Edgar, though mostly for humor reasons. He cracked me up. ![]() 3. Auron definitely had that bad-ass thing going for him. He deserves to be in my top ten if for no other reason than that. Plus, red is my favorite color. 2. Lulu is pretty close to the top. Her costume is wicked cool (ha ha, did I just say that?) and she attacks with moogles and stuff--how much cooler are you looking for? On top of that, she's got a great personality...if, by great, you mean that she's cold as ice and about as polite. ![]() 1. Celes is definitely my favorite out of all of them. She's cool, she's competent, and she's not a love-starved twit. No, but seriously. I really liked her, and I was thrilled that she was the main character for the second half of the game. ![]() -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

sd ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyways, on to my top ten: 10. Locke - Just an interesting character in my opinion. A thief with a conscience, who'da thunk it? 9. Fighter - I only say this because I love his character in 8-bit theatre. Sword-Chucks, Yo! 8. Squall - One of the better "heroes" of the FF series I believe, just because of that quiet beast inside of him and his extremely pent up nature that is shattered by none other than... 7. Rinoa - A strong-willed, compassionate woman who'd kick yer ass if you tried pullin any shiz and then get you something to make you feel better. She's beautiful too, the total package. 6. Sephiroth - What better villain has there been in an FF game? He's emits that cold feeling even through the TV screen. The CG of him behind the flames in Nibelheim says it all: He is the pure manifestation of evil! 5. Irvine - I liked Irvine more than any other FF8 character simply because of his cool non-chalant attitude that put up that huge front for the sensitive guy he really is. And he's a ladies man, my favorite kind of character which is foreshadow to my #1 choice. 4. Rydia - That lovable little green-haired angel from Mist. She has to be one of the most loved characters of all the FF games, she just begs for it. To add to that cute aura she emits and that great personality she has, she is extremely powerful, wielding the strongest black magics as well as controlling the gods of the Summoned Land. Ya can't beat that, unless of course you're... 3. Kain - The only reason FFIV is as great as it is. You take Kain out of the mix and you've got one boring ass story that just keeps going in one direction the whole time. Kain was that terrible twist that you hated to see when he attacked you in Fabul and again when he betrays you at the Sealed Cave. He makes you get out of your seat and scream, "DAMN YOU, KAIN!!!" and you find your friends watching you cursing your TV as you sink back and realize you just got a real emotion from a fake character. That's tha shiz right there. 2. Nanaki - Or Red XIII if you prefer. The greatest character in FF7 in my opinion. His whole story had so much more depth to it than any of the others, with his constant battle against himself to make sure he was always stronger than his father only to find out that Seto saved his tribe. That moment was so touching, so much more so than any other in the game. I even have a picture of Nanaki and Seto on that cliff staring at the moon as my desktop. On top of the great story they put behind him, they made Nanaki one of the most powerful characters as well. Nanaki simply pulled something in me that no other character had done before and i loved him from the start. 1. Edge - Don't shoot me!! *dodges bullets, Neo style* Alright, I'm sure you think I'm insane for picking Edge as my number one, but hey that's just me. As I said before, I like the ladies man character in a game, for the comic relief as well as his skills. A lot of ppl say, "What skills?", well I'll tell you what skills. You see Edge wields two swords, and while each sword on its own doesn't do all that much damage, together(if you have Masamune and Murasame) they do just as much if not more than Cecil with a Crystal Sword or Kain jumping with a Holy Lance, given that they are all at the same level. On top of that he can throw shiz like a monkey in a Zoo does to little school children. Sure most of his Ninja magic is worthless by the end of the game, but Smoke has gotten me out of quite a few bad situations. Now, back to the non-combat perks to Edge's character. Can you beat a personality like his? I think a lot of people take the text he's given in a completely different way than I do because he comes across to me like a pimp who knows what the f00k he's doing. He can talk smack and back it up(as long as it's not Rubicante, hehe). To me he's smarter than most ppl give him credit for, and his emotions that he tries to hide come out so well in certain parts of the game like when his parents died and at the end when he, in a way, admits his true love for Rydia. And he's a Ninja, c'mon now, what's better than that? -------------------- Jeez, another signature...i can't do this anymore, just kill me already! |

10. Onion Kids 1, 2, 3, and 4 - generic as they may be, these children have many skills of trade; they can be vikings; ninjas; priests; warlocks; knights; dragoons; hell, even scholars (but why would they?)
9. Black Mage - he's funny, he's powerful, he's perverted, everybody's favorite little mage with a big pointy hat with a huge hormonal lust towards magicians of the opposite sex 8. Golbez Harvey - a dark hooded man with powers like Emperor Palpatine who mind controls weak nameless dragoons to do his bidding, although he is actually under control himself by some crazy madman on the moon 7. Zemus whatshisface - the man pictured in my avatar when he gets pissed off, the evil mastermind behind the plot to steal all the crystals on Earth/Terra and the Moon so he can take over the universe somewhat of a bland badguy, but I still ![]() 6. Delita Hyral - a young boy whose life falls apart when his sister dies from what I guess is fatal wounds from an explosion after saving his life
5. Kain Highwind - a weak minded Dragoon serving the King of Baron loyally... disloyally... loyally... disloyally... loyally... disloyally 4. Auron - a mysterious fellow who is world reknowned for being a guardian of summoners, has a secret he keeps hidden well but clues are strewn through the game about it; he likes to drink and spit on his sword 3. Leo Cristophe - the honorable knight of the Imperial Army, who starts seeing the way of the Rebels before he his murdered by the insane jester of the Empereor 2. Clyde Arrowny - the thief from dreamworld who grows up to be a mysterious ninja who I will not name, but everyone knows he'd slit his mama's throat for a nickel 1. Yang Feing Lieden - a bald monk from Fabul who starts owning stuff left and right when you meet him, by himself; with no trouble, best character ever (400 posts) |

In no particular order.
Vivi: I think the first FF character I knew of that embodied a child-like innocence that was really endearing. As far as I'm concerned, he was the central character in that game. He was the embodiement of what FFIX was, an old fashioned fantasy world of innocence and kindness. Call it sappy, but I called it refreshing after VII and VIII. Zidane: While we're on the topic, Zidane was also a really likeable fellow. He was such an old school, duddely do-right character, which I can understand would put most people off. But in a way, he was almost defiantly good natured, like a flip you to the Squalls of the RPG world, and that's how I viewed him. Cid (IV): Oh of all the IV cast, I loved this scruffy sunnovabitch the most. This dude blows himself up, then fixes two airships. Man! How can you deny that? Terra: I never got the whole 'mousy' vibe off of her, however I did find her to be an incredibly intrigueing character. I never could get a good bead on her, and her insecurities about herself kept her from being a 'generic heroine'. From a personality perspective, I found her to be very mysterious and something about her made her seem very complex but I could never say how. I still can't so I guess she's also timeless. Kefka: Oh yeah! Tha man with the plan that actually works! This dude brought about the apocalypse for crying out loud! Gau: Lord I just love this kid! Hands down my fave VI char. Thrown to the animals as an infant and surives...no thrives amongst them! And even in that most dangerous of environments, he never lost his heart. In the end he's still a rambuncious child and the game reflects that about him. Think about it. He's a pain in the butt and never listens to you, is constantly running off going who knows where, never letting you know when he'll be back. However he has the potential to be the strongest character in the game, but it requires an immense amount of patience. Edgar: Another character that I didn't get the vibe that was apparently assigned to him. Despite his apparent love of machines, he never mentions them or fixes anything. Also everybody said he was a hornball, but I never actually saw him hitting on anyone. Sure that was that intro with Terra, but that always seemed to me to be more cynical and self aware than anything else. Most other times, he came off as take charge and strategic kinda person. In other words, he acted like a king. And for that he gets my respect. Freya: Strong yet vunerable, determined and feminine, she was the most attractive female in that game, which is odd considering she's a rat. ![]() -------------------- |

I won't try to do a top 10, so I'll just mention a few of my favourite characters:
(in no particular order) * Zidane (FF9) - People with monkey tails are so cool! Just look at his face, and you're sold. * Tifa (FF7) - ![]() * Locke (FF6) - Absolutely wonderful! Proud, strong, soft and gentle. All in one! And stealing things is always funny. * Cid (FF7) - A rude, swearing old guy. But with the heart of a wild child. * Mog (FF6) - A nice little tyke. Dancing ability rocks, and moogle charm too! * Tseng (FF7) - The Turks leader. What a badass! * Kefka (FF6) - And of course, our favourite bad guy deserves a place here. -------------------- People say I'm a slow learner, but I type fast! |

Hurm...
10. (FF6) Leo - The honorable general whom everyone wants in their party. 'Nuff said. 9. (FF7) Zack - Courageous and strong, I admired his devotion to save his good friend from the clutches of Shinra. Too bad he didn't have a bigger part. 8. (FF4) Yang - If you think about it, Yang is a party member through a great deal of your game. Even in the Sylvan Cave, he still wanted to join your party (as far as I can remember). I think he deserves the Baronian Pension Plan. 7. (FF7) Barret - Often referred to as "the black guy with gun on his arm," I find him to be the most down-to-earth character of the bunch. The guy who deals out no bullshit and the guy who'll keep on fighting whether the ceiling or a meteor is about to make things ugly deserves my respect. 6. (FF7) Vincent - Dark, brooding nature. A tortured individual. A man with a past that he keeps close to himself. Good stuff. 5. (FF6) Celes - Tough fighter, tough magic user. And evidently a natural opera soprano. With a ribbon that suits her, too! 4. (FF4) Kain - Ahh... the Dragoon. Aside from his kick ass Jump attack, I sympathize with the fact that he's the odd man out in the love triangle. Plus, you can make a modest fortune stripping off his equipment before he leaves the party... again. 3. (FF7) Aeris - For some reason she makes me feel schweeeet. ![]() 2. (FF6) Locke - Too long of an explanation. Look for something called the Trial of Locke in the forums somewhere. 1. (FF6) Terra - Kicks more ass in battle than (in my opinion) Celes does. And that isn't with Morph, either. I've had fun equipping her with a Genji Glove, an Offering, R-Hand Drainer, and L-Hand Atma Weapon, then go out on a solo dino massacre. Her story, I felt, was one of the best ones told in the game. Woo... Wow... the sky is really blue right now... and I live in L.A. Must be the end of the world or something. ![]() |

I think it makes a difference in how you level them up. Â Celes is always way cooler than Terra in my game, because I never use Terra unless I absolutely have to. Â Since you like her more than I do, my guess is that you probably play with her more often, right? I just can't stand that character... Â "I know the fate of the world is at stake, but... but... I want to be a mommy!" "Leo, will you teach me about love? Â (wink wink, nudge nudge)" -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Sephiroth he has to be the best character who doesnt like a highly dangerous yet subtle individual who just kills and walks away like nothing ever happened.

Wow this was difficult! Â Just ten characters? Â I had to write down 26 characters and group them into tiers and make my brain explode. Â Picking who got #7 vs. #8 was rough. Â #10 vs. my first honorable mention was nearly impossible. Â Here they are.
10. Kefka, FF6- The most despicably terrible villain in FF history. Â Invokes more hatred than any other. Â Hate Hate Hate Hate! 9. Reno FF7- The Turk with the most attitude. Â While drunk he still has the wherewithal to feed a wealthy pervert's own jive back to him before killing him. That's style. 8. Auron FF10- No bull. Â Few words. Â Tons of power. Â Mysterious, wise, and commanding, and kind of like a samurai. Â Oh Yeah. 7. Terra FF6- The mystic green haired beauty who shows us we can take charge of a miserable situation to serve a purpose and be happy, and part Esper. ![]() 6. Shadow FF6- The most moody ninja in the universe, but his heart is instrumental in saving it. Â I want to be him. 5. Aeris FF7- I love you Aeris. Â ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 4. Celes FF6- She's everything. Â Magical, warrior-like, graceful, good natured, and brings herself out of the most depressing part of the game. 3. Shiva - How can we leave out summons? Â I don't like ice-princesses, but Shiva is a wonderful goddess (especially in FFX). Â There should be a religion that worships HER. Â 2. Lulu FF10- The most attractive character in FF. Â The urbane enchantress with red eyes and gothic dress, and she's confident enough to let most of her chest show. Â I talk to her repeatedly just to hear the voice. 1. Sephiroth FF7- The coolest form of evil I've ever encountered. Â The first moment I saw him sitting in the back of that cargo truck and every moment since, he simply makes my eyes bulge out. Â His blade looks like it's 8 feet long, and he looks 6 1/2, but he could wield it in his sleep. Â He brings history intrigue and plainly impressive fright to FF7. Â This choice was the easiest. Â Honorable mentions: Cloud, Kelga, Nanaki, Tifa, Anima, Tidus, Maduin. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

Ooh...this is a tough one. Let me see...
10. Raila, the saucy pirate queen from II. This sea-going siren had the audacity to offer you a free ride on her ship, and once you accepted, she ordered you to surrender your weapons and valuables to her crew! But once all that got sorted out, she became your staunch ally. A very fun character overall, plus she was one of the two southpaws in the game (the other one being Leonhart, who is, coincidentally enough, my other favorite character in II). ![]() 9. Kefka, the power-mad nutcase that everybody loves to hate. He pulled off being evil, hilarious, infuriating, and downright despicable all at the same time. He made a great villain, he never cut you a single ounce of slack, and he belonged in the loony bin. And oh, that laugh... 8. Tidus, the sweet, loveable blitzball star who, despite his fame, never got a swelled head. He always had time for other people, and when he suddenly got transported into this other world, he didn't panic, bitch, or whine--he coped. He gets along great with the other party members, and he never, ever gives up. And he's just so CUTE! 7. Interceptor. This is the most undeniably bad-ass dog EVER. The only reason he doesn't make it higher up on the list is that he doesn't show up enough, and that makes me sad. 6. Bahamut, the King of Dragons. Noble and fierce, and one of the original summons when summoning was first invented. He gets more and more impressive with every game, and I love his insane counterparts Neo-Bahamut and Bahamut ZERO in VII. He saved my ass in V quite a few times, and he always makes you go on the most interesting quests in order to be allowed to summon him. DoomGaze, anyone? 5. Seymour Guado. Maester Seymour is like a cross between Kefka and Sephiroth. He's got all the qualities of each one that make me shiver all over, both with fear and with lust. He's so kind and pleasant when you first meet him...and just gets more and more frightening with every subsequent appearance. I think what scares me the most is that, if I were in Yuna's shoes, I would not have been able to resist him. The alien appearance, the awe-inspiring demeanor, and that mellifluous, sensual, hypnotic voice... 4. Wakka, Tidus's brother-in-arms. These two make a great team. Wakka is definitely my favorite character in X. Besides being an incredibly powerful fighter, he's got a great sense of humor, he's unflinchingly loyal, he's laid-back and fun-loving, and even though his faith is shattered to the core, you know that he'll come through it all right, and he'll even be able to laugh about it later. 3. Red XIII, aka Nanaki, the guardian of Cosmo Canyon. What an intriguing character. He's almost as cold and distant as Cloud when he first appears, but soon he is revealed to be little more than an adolescent struggling to fill the pawprints of his beloved father. He's willing to put himself through hell in order to do the right thing, but he's far from emotionless. The scenes with him and his father, and with him and Bugenhagen, are simply heart-rending. You know the ones I mean. And all that aside, he's gorgeous and I want to pet him and I absolutely love his theme song. 2. Setzer, or as my friend and I like to call him, "Setzer Setzer hump hump hump." ![]() 1. Faris. Interesting, isn't it, how my list both starts and ends with pirates? I'll admit, I do like the rascally types. Faris has an interesting backstory--it's almost Shakespearean, in some ways. She's managed to get about a dozen guys to fall in love with her when they don't know she's female. And she's best friends with a dragon. I love how devoted she and Syldra are to one another, and it almost made me cry when they were separated. Personality-wise, I think she has the best one out of any of the party members--hot-tempered, aggressive, and rebellious, with just enough of Lenna's sweetness and compassion thrown in to balance her out. Faris gets some of the best costumes, too; her Dancer one is especially cute, and so's her Black Mage, with that lovely purple hair peeking out from underneath the hat. And did I mention the dragon? ![]() Weird...my favorite character comes from my third least favorite FF game. I never thought of that before. ![]() |
