My dream team would be Edgar, Sabin, Terra, and Celes. I've never played FFVI before, but I plan on it and I know enough about the game to know that this is my favourite team.

ive played all the Final fantasys but im new to 6 whats the best team to have ie most damage done ive heard Locke can do 8 hits in a row etc so thats a ton of damage thanks for help

Shame Locke SUCKS SO HARD. Yeah that's right I SAID IT.

Really though, the best team tends to be dependant on preference. So this'll likely just become a "What is your favorite party" style thread.

The best team though probably consists of Relm, Gau, Sabin, Strago, Terra, Gogo and/or Celes.

There is another thread about this, so this topic will get merged pretty soon.

There is no best team or worst team; it's all based on preferences. And also, any character in the game other than Umaro can attack eight times in a row, using the Offering and Genji Glove in tandem. Locke is just particularly good at it, as combining the Atma Weapon and ValiantKnife is a pretty damn awesome combination.

But yes, my favorite party is Terra, Celes, Gau, and Strago. Sometimes I replace Gau with Edgar, Sabin, Locke, or Relm if I feel like being less cheap. I generally use all of the characters, and I hardly ever level people past 45 or so. It's your call.

Locke in the WoR has the best capability of doing the 8-hit 9999 damage combo via Offering, Genji Glove, Atma Weapon and Valiant Knife.

So if you're looking for who can do the most amount of damage more easily, I suggest Sabin and Bum Rush, Edgar and Drill/Chainsaw, Strago and GrandTrain, Gau and any of his stronger Rages, or find Ultima and start abusing it

In FF6 any character has the capability to be just as effective as another. Take Edgar, for example. If you level him enough, his autocrossbow can deal 9999 damage. Sabin's aurabolt can deal 9999 damage. I've gotten Ice 2 to deal 9999, heck, I've gotten Ice 1 to deal 5000+ damage. It's clearly not which character you use, but how you use them.

Celes - i like the Runic + she seems cool

Edgar - Tools + backrow

Sabin - blitzes + backrow

Locke - 8 hit combo + steal

i may though add Strago and replace him with Celes dunno yet so much choice i kinda wish it was like ff10 where you could alternate characters i just like them all

I always like to use the underdogs. Gau i use cause i find he's more of a challange to use,Terra because shes just Terra, Locke because he can steal some good stuff, and Shadow cause Shadow is the bomb:P. enough said..

I play everyone, but my finishing team in FF6 was Celes, Relm, Edgar and Locke.
Frankly, all of the characters are good though I am less fond of Gau and Cyan. Gau is okay at early levels, and Umaro I wouldn't use in any dire situation but he's fun. Cyan's okay in mid-game, but meh generally. Relm's magic is sick, Celes is a beatstick, Locke's good generally, Edgar's tools are fun and he's great with Genji Glove-Offering, Terra is annoying but proficient, Gogo is okay, Shadow is neat with the throw command, Setzer gets more fun in late game (FIXED DICE!!!!), Strago is alright, and Sabin is extremely versatile and fun.
And Mog. WHO CAN'T LOVE A DANCING MOOGLE???????

There's a few characters I really tend to neglect: Strago, Relm, and Umaro, mostly. ^^;

My five favorites (who are usually my first five in the lineup against Kefka) are Celes, Terra, Locke, and the twins (Sabin being 4, Edgar being 5). The other two I like to switch in and out a lot are Shadow and Mog. Shadow because I love his dog XD, and Mog because... well, he's Mog. He ownz my soul.

I normally end up with Terra, Locke, Edgar, and Sabin, the first four characters. But I actually use everyone. Recently I've been trying to get all of my characters on level 99, so I've been using them all. But the three teams I use in Kefka's Tower are:

Edgar
Terra
Locke

Celes
Cyan
Setzer
Gau

Shadow
Relm
Strago
Mog

I don't know why I put Celes and Locke in different groups, but it just ends up that way. Maybe I think that they will distract each other or something.

As has been said already, it's really about preference, since you can make any character go from beyond respectable to quite powerful. The ones I like (and why)

Locke - Steal, steal, steal!
Celes - 'cause Locke's there. And besides, there's some awesome female-only equipment out there.
Setzer - Genji Glove + Offering + Fixed Dice + Dice. Okay, I'm a random numbers freak, sue me.
Mog - Dance, dance, dance! (Again with loving the random chaos)
Gogo - I put him with Mog sometimes and have them do different dances and watch the terrain swap back and forth. Plains change to mountains change to plains change to...
Sabin - Mantra is my favorite blitz...HP and status heal for free! Did you expect anything else, considering my avatar?

In the dungeons where you have to use more than one group, I send Setzer off with Cyan. Cyan charges up his Quad Slice while Setzer is busy throwing all those dice.

I also swap people out whenever someone falls too far behind in level.

My preference for Locke, Celes, Edgar and Sabin has been replaced. On my current file, my usual gang consists of Locke, Celes, Mog or Gogo (with Blitz and Tools among his abilities) and Relm.
