As the regular season comes to a close in my Fantasy Football league, my very own Besaid Aurochs have ridden an amazing seven-game winning streak! They climbed from the middle of the pack to stand atop the league with an 11-2-1 record! Although I'll freely admit that the record is more about playing the right opponent at the right time than my own skills. I did okay in the draft and paid attention to the waiver wire to pick up both Rex Grossman (while he was hot) and Robbie Gould, and made sure I picked up Ladell Betts to cover in case Clinton Portis got hurt, but my breakdown record is a mediocre 83-69-2.
(For those that care but don't know, breakdown is what my record would have been if I had played every team each week. If you do better than 6 other teams but worse than 5 other teams, your breakdown record for the week is 6-5. Repeat and add throughout the season.) My biggest break was the owner in my division who didn't show up on draft day and ended up with both Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne on his roster. He offered me Wayne for LaMont Jordan, and seeing as I had both Portis and Willie Parker, it was an easy call. So, we'll see how the playoffs go. Sadly, the league leader in points won't even be in the playoffs because he was always facing the wrong team at the wrong time. My breakdown vs. him is 3-11, but I played him on one of the three weeks I did better than him. Grr I got !@#($# in my fantasy football league. I was all set to make the playoffs and as coincidence has it the last week it was me playing the other guy who would make the playoffs. I had a 15 point lead on him with all my guys done and only one of his guys left. Unfortunatly that player was Drew Brees. Obviously if you know what Drew Brees did last week you know he scored more then enough to beat me. And its sad I am third in points right now (the guy in second had only 5 wins) and I am not in the playoffs while the guy with the second worst points clinched his division. But at least our league is smart enough to know points is more important then wins, the playoff winner only gets 20% of the pot. Second place in points gets 30% of the pot while the point winner gets 50% which is about 1200 right now. I just gotta hope my team keeps up cause I have only won about 40 dollars so far this year (whoever wins the week in points wins 20 dollars) and I would at least like to break even the money I put in.
