Pardon if I put this in the wrong topic. It was a tossup for here or FFVII.
At any rate, I've been playing this game the past two days and I must say, I'm quite impressed. When I first heard of it, I was definitely "iffy" about the prospect of a third-person shooter/action game in the FF genre. However, I feel Square-Enix have done a brilliant job at executing the game. I'd have to say my favourite feature is the weapon customization, though not in the same lame fashion as in FFVIII. Here they've done a great job and have allowed for you to multi-task with having three different weapons for you to cusomize and inter-change between pending each situation you encounter. Also, the story is actually very intriguing. Full points for a game starring Steve Blum's voice. Secondly, a lot of background story on Vincent and Lucrecia and all that business is very cool too. As well, I don't know about anyone else, but exploring in full 3D some of the places of FFVII is quite fascinating. So, after all that, who else has played DoC in North America, or elsewhere? And what're you thoughts? Further pimpage of FFVII series, or an actually productive addition to the fray? -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! I'm interested in the story to it, and how much it reveals of Vincent and how it interacts with the cast of FFVII.

Year after Advent Children (3 years after the main game)...I'm pretty hyper about the story myself.

I think its after both the game and the movie. It seems interesting, but I don't have a PS2. I might convince a friend to get it though.

I've watched my friend play it, and it certainly looks awesome. (KITTEN SITH!!! PLAYABLE KITTEN SITH!!!) I'm glad they improved some controls for the US release. I'll probably borrow it when he finishes.

I didn't know it had been released. It'll probably be a while before I can manage to rent it, cause people seem able to get to things before I can fairly consistently. If I like it I might buy it...

In addition, I don't like Vincent that much, and the fact it's Compilation of FF7 to boot means that no matter how good it is, it gets five points knocked off by default. Intresting fact, it's also not a big truck. It infuriates me that Square-Enix's ventures into ground I should like fredquently goes and blows it's own goddamn feet off. This is strike umpteen in terms of Squenix failing me. After FF12, I imagine they will have failed me for the last time. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

Why are you acting like Square's 'blown it's feet off'? It's just a shooting game. It isn't like Square is going to suddenly just make FPSs all the time from now on. And so what if it's part of the Compilation? That doesn't have anything to do with it's quality of a game at all.
I'm not getting into FFXII, and you haven't played it yet. -------------------- |

It isn't like Square is going to suddenly just make FPSs all the time from now on. And so what if it's part of the Compilation? That doesn't have anything to do with it's quality of a game at all. I'm not getting into FFXII, and you haven't played it yet. What I mean is, that they all turn around and go the opposite direction from what I was wanting and "shoot themselves in the foot" so to speak, and since they're the kind of muppets to use a big calibre to look impressive, the entire foot comes off. It being Compilation DOES have a minor effect on the quailty of the game, because it's success or failure gives Square-Enix the idea that poorly revisiting old ground to air their new ideas is a better plan than modern and new innovation because it's cheaper, makes more money proprtionately, and they don't have to think too hard about anything except how to revive Sephiroth. Basically, that's the same reason as CSM, but I had additional reasons prior to that. In addition, I personally don't think Advent Children should even exist and despite the fact it does I'm willing to doublethink and pretend it does not, thus I don't regard it as canon to my interpretation of the FF7 storyline which as far as I am concerned ends with the game. Thus, I'm not buying a game that does not exist, how am I meant to play it? Yes, I know that's very silly, but so is ressurrecting an enemy without a very very good reason. The in-movie explaination to me is a bit sharkjumping because it opens up a whole host of conflicting issues and bascially starts plot fractures even worse than mistranslation managed. Plus, it's pretty obvious I have not played FF12, but my expectation of it is that it's not going to be that good. Hence, why I said "I Imagine" as in "I Anticipate." Beyond that if you'd actually read my first paragraph properly you'd have saw I wanted an FPS, as indicated by the allcaps 'Third' in 'third person'. There's a first-person view as is the norm with a third person shooter/action adventure, but unless the game is squad based or has some other redeeming feature, I don't like third person shooters much. Quote (Hamedo @ 18th August 2006 15:20) When one of you beat it, IM me and tell me how it turned out willya? I beat it yesterday. On Normal mode, once you get the hang of the controls, it's not horribly difficult. There're two or three bosses that'll gives issues, but otherwise, it's not too too bad. I'm replaying now to just improve my mission results before I move on to play it on hard or extra hard. But, regardless of the seeming ease I had with it, I really liked the game. The story was well done, in my humble opinion, and the shedding of light on Vincent's past was really intriguing. One thing I must say, though, the game's music is great too. I was dissappointed not to hear Vincent's theme come back, but still, great music all around. After beating it, though, I still find it has good replay value, what with some hidden stuff and the extra missions afterwards. I still give this a hearty recommendation to anyone, not just Vincent fans or FFVII fans. Though, I suppose, on these boards it's rather hard not to find an FFVII fan... haha. Also, even though it's largely TPS, you can still go FPS if you'd like, which I also recommend. If you're using manual targeting, like myself, FPS improves your accuracy greatly. Finally, Del S, you needn't worry about a random Sephiroth revival in this game. I hope this doesn't spoil anything for anyone, though I don't see how that could be a spoiler, but anyways, there're very few traces of Sephiroth in this game, and it's only due to mentioning of him, seeing as he and Vincent's past coincide at times. Although, I will admit there was an aspect of past relation that just kinda' made me go, "Well... Okay... I SUPPOSE I can buy that... but only because I HAVE to..." It wasn't overly necessary and I think they coulda' gone another route, but meh, it still made for an interesting story. Anyways, I enjoyed it thoroughly and will be playing it much more until I have to return it to the wondrous people at Microplay who let me rent it before they even put it on the shelf. Two weeks since i beat the and i can honestly say the gameplay was the best thing about it. It was fun it was challenging (to a point) and there wasn't really any gliches that coused any problems. The story was good, the new characters were alright and somethings were pretty far fetched. But it's still a great game and i'll probly play through it again.

I enjoyed it as it gave more insight to Vincent's character. I also liked the Cait Sith mission but my favorite was when he was underground and talking to himself throughout the level, along with the music of that level it was just great. However some things did not fall in sync with the original FFVII but you will have that.

I was hooked by DoC the very moment I started playing it. I already finished the game and I have to say it was amazing. It's a sad story, but worthy of being a part of FF VII.
Vincent has been one of my favorite video game characters of all time, and after watching him in action in his own game, he is now definately in my TOP 5 characters. -------------------- PS3 tag: TipoDLuffy "...quite possibly the greatest game ever made" |

I was thinking if any one else had the TPS ( Third Person Shooter) game and wants to discuss any of it.
It is one of my favorate TPS games and i like it how they tied it in with FF7. |

Personally, the only things I hated about the games were the fact that the physics of the game weren't set up great, such as...
i.e. - You couldn't jump over railings on floor levels... This really pissed me off... Another thing was that in some parts you just had to keep chopping away and away at these enemies and that I found myself struggling to survive by hiding behind crates and stuff... But other than that, I loved the game, it definately made a great game... -------------------- We, who cannot see into tomorrow, have no way of knowing... But... But...
