Back in my days, we couldn't even play NES games on our SNES. You young whippersnappers are spoiled.
![]() Nor did we have to patch our NES via the internet so that it would be able to display the mushrooms in Mario 1 the right color. >"< -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote (Rangers51 @ 20th November 2006 12:50) Quote (MetroidMorphBall @ 20th November 2006 12:02) But I can't help but notice that even in the contrasting of opening day sales the Wii's was made out to be a glorious day of peace and harmony while Sony was made out as a promotor of discord and riot. In fairness, I didn't hear anything on the news of robberies and people being shot over Wii. I think the global perspective you note isn't without merit. So you are saying that because people got robbed while waiting in line for Playstation 3s, it's a justified position to blame it on Sony? -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

That's not quite what I meant, and I would wager you actually knew that going in. I wasn't blaming it on anyone but the people perpetrating crimes, and I was merely remarking that the demand for the PS3 was DIFFERENT than that of the Wii, and it is not out of line to blame that different demand on the perspectives the media (not just CoN) have about the launches. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Quote (Green Mage @ 20th November 2006 11:46) Well if they can fix it somehow whats the problem, i mean, wii cant play dvds yet and theyre going to release one that can. The problem is that I'm a selfish consumer and I don't intend to wait another year (fall 2007) to buy a Wii. I tried to get one at launch but discovered I was a day too late in camping out for the system (i.e., I didn't camp out at all. I simply arrived at 12 a.m. Sunday). As a poor college student, I'm annoyed that I'd have to wait another year to get the console I'm most interested in with added DVD playback. I don't own a DVD player; hell, I don't own a TV. I'll have to hook up my Wii on one of my roommates' TV sets. -------------------- SPEKKIO: "GRRR...That was most embarrassing!" |

We also don't know if that's going to be a console redesign or an add-on, and if it's the former, how much it will bump up the price of the Wii. If you're looking into video game systems, maybe you should get a TV first. You can get a TV-VCR combo for around $60 from a place like Walmart. You can also pick up a DVD player for $30 at Best Buy, so I'd imagine you could go even lower if you looked on eBay or something. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

If it's an add-on for a very reasonable price, I'll drop all complaints. As for the TV, I've seen the prices for the 13-inch screens. I want to play the Wii on something a little bigger than that, which is where my roommate's TV set comes in (and even it's only a 23" screen). Besides, I can't really afford both (more than likely I'll be forsaking a few days worth of food as it is), and the Wii takes precedence. -------------------- SPEKKIO: "GRRR...That was most embarrassing!" |

That does not, of course, encompass all fans. I hate mass generalizations. On the other hand, I always got the impression from Nintendo's news releases that there would be no serious shortages in Wii consoles. Yes, it's sold out now, but they've constantly reassured their fans that there will be plenty of stock before Christmas (over a million units). This has quite a calming effect on the percieved rarity of the console. Sony has never made any such news releases. In addition, they knew they would run into shortages but were powerless to do anything about it. One might get the impression that Sony did nothing to discourage the price gouging behaviour we have seen in the past week, and even encourages it in order to attract further publicity for their sold-out 'high in demand' console. Obviously not the whole picture, but quite a telling portion. -------------------- Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle. |

A funny look at the waiting lines for the PS3, 360, and Wii.
*Graphic Language Warning* From what I've read and seen in the papers and news and online, that comic pretty much sums it up. You could give a link to the actual comic, rather than sticking it along with your own file and giving no credit.

I don't want a PS3 because the games just don't appeal to me! It's just another run-of-the-mill console to me with the only add-ons being the graphic enhancements and the new disc technology! I would much rather have a Wii, which costs half as much and is sooo much more innovative! =^-^=
