Man, they made the Tower of Owen puzzle so obvious. xD There isn't even a gear there and there's a protrusion where the switch is. Though in this you have to zoom in to see sparkles that indicate where the switches are.

I almost died on Medusa. ;__; This is proof that the bosses are indeed harder, if Medusa can actually hurt me.

Yeah the game is great I just wish it didn't use the Friend Code system since none of my friends play FF (or even DS) so it is going to be impossible to get some of the extras in the game since I can't sent letters to others. Other then that it is a great game.

Of course you can still get the extras!

Add me, then post your Friend Code on here. You have to mutually add one another for it to work.

..."Aria"? C'mon now. :/

Time to infiltrate Goldor's Mansion. Thief power!

Thankfully my friend also picked up this game, so I don't have to worry about not getting all the extras. tongue.gif

How bad was Dyne and the rat boss? They were a bitch to fight in the NES version (Dyne because Scholar couldn't fight, but was nesscary, Rat because my magic kept missing)

Hein (what Dyne/Hyne is called in this version) wasn't too bad. I was rocking out with my Geomancer and just nuking him every turn with !Terrain. I turned Arc into a Scholar to scan him every turn, but it wasn't really necessary. Still, he could hit pretty hard (since bosses and some enemies get two turns), but he wasn't too big of a problem.

I detest the Giant Rat, so I was probably grinding a bit to defeat with ease this time around (level 15 when I fought him, probably a bit much). I just turned three of my characters into Red Mages and each got them at least one level three spell so they could cast the Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara spells you find in the Viking's Hideout. Desch helped with his 'fried rat special', a nice Thundara. And of course, I saved all the Antarctic Wind items from throughout the game to that point. I have no patience for the Giant Rat.

I've just obtained the Eureka and Syrcus Keys, and I can say that altogether, the game is at the same difficulty as it was before, if not even more difficult at some areas (arggh splitting cave of doom). I can't wait to turn Arc into a White Mage Kitty.

This version is alot more friendly to all classes due to the rebalancing of the classes, as I've been using Geomancer, Ranger, and Thief alot due to them being quite powerful (I don't remember them pulling off alot of damage before). However, the Black Belt (the Karateka/Master) is no longer a job of the Water Crystal. He must have been moved to the Earth Crystal because of how tough he was before. Which is kind of annoying since you still recieve all this Monk stuff in chests and in shops, but I don't really want to use Monk throughout the entire game, y'know?

Here's some more romanized fun:

Desh= Desch ("I'm Captain Desch!")

Hyne= Hein (like the same thing)

Elia= Aria (;__; )

Salonia= Saronia (eh...)

Dorga= Doga (ever since I listened to that CD...)

Unne= Unei (more accurate)

Zande= Xande (Xs are awesome)

Sylx= Syrcus (blink.gif)

I think that's most of the name changes. The names of some towns are different, but hardly anything of importance.

Also, instead of turning the inhabitants of the world into stone and flooding the world, the flow of time in the world is stopped, because
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Xande wants to prevent his inescapable demise at any cost
. But you still get a wierd swirling ocean of darkness and pretty music, so it's all good.

There's also some more backstory for the main characters and Cid, but overall, it's essentially the same story, just with a bit more depth to make the story bearable for the current generation.

Yes, I did. I generally get it in every playthrough of FFIII, even if I won't use it too often. But it is helpful for the many undead encounters early in the game.

He was a lot harder than I was expecting. He made mince-meat out of my Knight the first round, but I didn't bother to revive him. Scholar (with a few Zeus' Rages), White Mage, and Geomancer worked well enough alone.

Out of curiosity, ZX, would you say a party of Dark Knight, Viking, White Mage, and Geomancer is decent? I plan on switching the White Mage to a Devout later, and the Geomancer to a Summoner.

Woah, Woah, Woah. So you mean that you don't get the 1st job crystals after the Tortise boss at the very beginning anymore?

I can't wait to find out about how the "not so secret veggie job" plays.

Yes, and you recruit the four characters as you go along in the story. But you get them in the first hour or so of play, so it's just a matter of killing the Land Turtle with Luneth alone (I died on it once. sad.gif).

I'd wager that any party combination is effective, especially with a Devout (a healer is a must, at least for me). Thanks to SE rebalancing the classes, you don't have to have a Ninja or Sage team anymore. In the original, since they were so overpowered, it wouldn't make sense to use any other classes except the Onion Swordsman. But now the Ninja can no longer equip everything, and the Sage's effectiveness has been decreased (his Summons are just the Evoker's summons, and he has less MP charges). They're still useful, but if you plan on having a character devoted to offensive magic you'd want a Magus or Summoner, and if you want a Healer a Devout is absolutely necessary. But bottom line, as long as thier job levels are decent, any party should suffice.

THEY KEPT THE ORIGINAL MP SYSTEM! HOORAY! HOORAH!!!

And the bosses are much more difficult, in part because they get to attack twice (I believe they only attacked once in the original). I played this on the emulator, and I must say, nothing more then names and backstory changed. Everything else is just the same - if not harder.

And I don't level, which makes it worse. You guys are 15 going on to Medusa, when I was about 11-12 I think. Plus I hate changing job classes :\ Like the rat boss - I just left my Warrior as a warrior, didn't even shove him in the back row, and lol'd as he died.

Oh, and, what level do jobs 'master' at? Because I wanna see some of these mastery benefits.

And they changed OnionKid to Freelancer :\ (lame)

They didn't change the Onion Knight to Freelancer, the Freelancer just replaces Onion Knight as the default class. The Onion Knight can be obtained by doing a sidequest involving Mognet and the WiFi connection, which I admittedly have little knowledge of how exactly that works.

Apparently there's some sort of blacksmith sidequest where, if you level your job level of a particular job to the maximum (99), you can obtain that job's 'ultimate weapon' by finding this 'mysterious blacksmith' who appears in random areas. I know little of this as well.

Some spoilers regarding the final boss:

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
In addition to having 120,000 HP after the Warriors of Darkness weaken her, the Cloud of Darkness (who now has multiple personalities like FFIVA's Zeromus) has two tentacles to help her out now. This means that altogether, she gets a whopping six turns! Her tentacles can use weak normal attacks and a Bad Breath attack (which is nullified by Ribbons), and the Cloud herself has a pretty tough physical attack, along with a Thunder attack (hurts) and Particle Beam (previously known as Flare Wave or Surge Cannon), which does about 1,500 or more damage to the entire party! I've been throwing weapons at her with Ingus, attacking with Refia, and spam healing with Arc and Luneth, but eventually I'll mess up and lose (having my mage the only person left alive is not good). This is incredibly tedious without save states, and leveling up takes too long. I'll just have to keep on trying.

Also, the Tentacles cannot be hurt in any way, so you have to deal with thier harassment.

Xande Clones can no longer be Death'd. sad.gif

Edit: More research on how to obtain the Onion Knight without WiFi:

I just fought Dark Cloud. That was rediculous. I had level 55+ characters. M. Knight, Ninja and Master as attackers, and a Sage that rests on defense doing pre-emptive healing spells to keep my party up.

I didn't realize the tenticles counted as seperate attackers until after I saw one individually attack, and then I had the bad luck of targetting the one on the right which happens to be physically immune (sigh).

Once her tenticles go down, she seems to be cake. I have about 14 elixers on my side so she won't be too difficult after the tenticles bite the dust. But she's extremely difficult and I lost. So. There goes 3 hours of my life. But, now I have the knowledge that I need to level up rediculously more.

I'm going to search for the info for the Ultimate Weapon or whatnot, as I have mastered my Monk class on my main char. Wonder where this Blacksmith is ohmy.gif

You have to have exchanged enough letters with real people in Mognet, and enough to Sara until she asks you for help forging her a new pendant.

The Tentacles...are killable? blink.gif I thought they were just invincible! Although, I never tried using magic...xD I just concentrated on attacking the Cloud. It took awhile, though I wasn't at those high levels.

I just got the game along with an Onyx DS Lite and I'm loving it!!! I just beat the Giant Rat without any problems, actually. As luck would have it, Desch started the battle off with Thundara and I had Arc(Black Mage) and Ingus(Red Mage) use Fire/Blizzard/Thunder until they the Giant Rat died. Refia(White Mage) helped out as well because I gave her the Fire Staff you find in the Gnome Village. I had no clue that Fira/Thundara/Blizzara could be found in the Viking's Cove, actually.

Just south of Saronia, dive into the water with the Nautilus (it's just right of the canals below Saronia, in the ocean). There's an underwater cave there. Enter it, and collect all the treasure inside. At the end, you'll be in an enclosed area of Saronia Castle's basement, and you can fight Odin.

I would change the Sage to a Devout if they're strictly for healing. You'll need it for the final bosses.

A shop that sells every summon, the best heavy armor and Shurikens is at the bottom of Eureka. To find the item salesman, you must go through a secret passage in the right wall near the first two Sages. However, the Shuriken are 65,000 Gil a pop...better have some money saved up!

In the 50s is fine.

a lot of people have said that it just doesn't have to be a 2 Ninja, 2 Sage fight anymore. A Devout and a Sage would both be very useful during the fight. From what I've seen, Devouts have superior MP and possibly higher Mind(the White Magic stat). I'm not completely sure about this, this is just a guess.
