Some people will tell you Abandon doubles your evasion, that's not entirely true nor is it entirely false. In reality, it doubles each of your evasion factors separately.
A setup out of nowhere: Knight (10%, 0%) Save The Queen Crystal Shield (40%, 15%) Crystal Helmet Crystal Armor Feather Mantle (40%, 30%) w/o Abandon Physical Evasion: Mantle Evasion: 40% Front/Sides/Back Shield Evasion (100%-40%)*40% = 24% Front/Sides Class Evasion (100%-40%-24%)*10% = 3,6% Front Total Evade = 67,6% Front 64% Sides 40% Back Magical Evasion: Mantle Evasion: 30% Shield Evasion: (100%-30%)*15% = 10,5% Total Evade = 40,5% w/ Abandon Physical Evasion Mantle Evasion: 40%*2 = 80% Front/Sides/Back Shield Evasion (100%-80%)*40%*2 = 16% Front/Sides Class Evasion (100%-80%-16%)*10%*2 = 0,8% Front Total Evade = 96,8% Front 96% Sides 80% Back Magical Evasion: Mantle Evasion: 30%*2 = 60% Shield Evasion: (100%-60%)*15%*2 = 12% Total Evade = 72% As you can see, your total Evade won't be doubled unless you use only a mantle or just a shield. The more items you add on yourself, the less effective will abandon be but with only a feather mantle and a Crystal shield look at all that evade! And since Abandon doesn't depend on brave, it's always active meaning that if an enemy counters you, all that evasion is still taken into effect. Therefore, if you equip the Escutcheon II with Abandon, you will have 100% physical evasion on sides and front and 100% magical evasion. I doubt you can find anyone else with that knowledge anywhere unless you speak to the developers themselves; no one really bothered about that before. Note: A target affected by "darkness" (physical only) and "confusion" will result in the same effect as abandon. Quote (Zodiac @ 9th November 2006 03:14) As you can see, your total Evade won't be doubled unless you use only a mantle or just a shield. Does that mean that by equipping both, you prevent Abandon from working? Just doublechecking, because what you posted seems to conflict with this statement. |

No, I'm just saying that equipping more items won't get the super high increase of evasion from abandon.
Your total evade will Increase of course but not double since all evasion factors do NOT stack. That would be way too easy if they would. Another way to see it is not that is increase just a little the evasion, but more that adding the Crystal shield to a feather mantle makes the enemy hit you 5 times less often. In any case, only two shields can provide 100% physical evasion with abandon. This post has been edited by Zodiac on 9th November 2006 14:50 -------------------- Sayonara |

Abandon is the reaction ability you give to low Brave characters. Just do it!

The Escutcheon II is a one time only and no human CPU can wear that shield anywhere in the game...
You can still move-find the Venetian shield in the deep dungeon (Horror) which provides Resistance to the 3 basic elements, 50% Physical Ev, and 25% Magical Ev. You can dupe any shield and any weapon in the game; Although I haven't done that in quite a while myself. -------------------- Sayonara |
