I find it terribly ironic that you're commenting on poor English by way of making Ted Woolsey a villian.
Other than that, I'm not sure what to make of this idea. Obviously it won't be the case, so what are we discussing here? -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Personally I'd expect a King Crab/Lil Shrimp water based combo attack (call me nuts, I thought it was a very clever line when I first saw it), and of course a self help booklet as his ultimate attack.

The only superboss that would be a serious choice out of all the ones so far mentioned is the CzarDragon.
Another possibility is Possible spoilers: highlight to view if Gestahl didn't die but will challenge your party before joining it. Of course, this'll lead us to another stupid Magus-like HP vacuum, and whatnot...bleh...and not like we'd really appreciate it plotwise either. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. A "Kefka EG" would be ridiculous.
Most of the people who got the Japanese version of FF5a got hope that FF6a wouldn't go downhill just as FF4a did. If they are going to make the dungeon interestingly fun, it should be a warp point to 1000 years back in the War of the Magi. If the ending boss for it is "Enuo EG" I'd laugh: It's just a random battle monster! Though CzarDragon would be insteresting. |

If Ted Woosely was an FF6 Boss character, by Locke_Cole
I walk into the dungeon, and to my surprise I see Ted Woosely, staring into my eyes I cast Holy, he calls it Pearl Gogo is a boy, he says its a girl I get pissed, and attack with my X-Offering My lightbringer crits, but he starts renaming "It's Illumina now!" He says to me "I can mistranslate everything you see!" I cry as he renames my Mash to Sabin I said "Come on, Ted, you must be playin'" He tells me "No, I'm done yet! - Do not worry, do not fret! You know that spell, what-is-it, Death? It's doom now!" (He says with one breath) "Why?" I ask, "did they hire you off the street?" "Haha, no! It was off a bar seat! - My girlfriend just dumped me, I was just fired and the old translator at square just retired, they needed someone cheap - and fast! So they turned to me at last!" "I don't care about your sob story," I said, with a good deal of apathy. "I just cast a spell, if you can't tell" "Wait - I'm vanished, what the hell?" He was surprised, but I just laugh As I cast X-Zone, I'll let you do the math. -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. Why is the Czar Dragon such a forerunner for the super-powerful boss? The game makes no mention of it, the number of dragons was eight and not nine. Anyone that had played the game would know nothing about the creature... indeed it's just some forgotten code dug out by ROM hackers.
Either do something with the storyline (say, fighting the Warring Gods when they haven't been subverted by Kefka; perhaps ome sort of super-Esper) or drag out some dream battles (Gestahl and Leo, along with a contingent of the Empire's finest), anything else would not have the same impact. Or... they should take a page out of Lufia 2's book and get the weakest, lamest monster, blow it up to the size of the screen, give it magnitudes more HP than anything else in the world, and then put it at the bottom of an incredibly difficult dungeon. Now that's a WTF scenario. (Oh the Ancient Cave... how you make me swoon) -------------------- Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle. |

I will disagree. For one thing, playing the game in English is so much better than playing the game in Japanese because I read English but not Japanese. But back to seriousness, I really don't see what Ted Woolsey so royally messed up that he is now the center of hatred of some people. For that matter, I praise him for making inventive and simultaneously meaningful lines such as "son of a submariner". He did quite a good job with FFVI--at least significantly better than FFIV's translator did. The language flows much better, in my opinion. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. As I recall, on this website that documented a lot of trivia about FFIV (including the existence of the "true" easytype, as well as tiles with hidden money and items, it was noted that Ted Woolsey actually did NOT translate FFIV, citing that it was against popular rumor or something like that. I can't find the site via Google, but the Wikipedia FFIV page does mention that "[t]he game's original release was heavily criticized for the poor quality of its English language translation." However, Ted Woolsey translated FFVI as well as Chrono Trigger, IIRC. Neither of those games has been. If not CT, then maybe Secret of Mana or something--he translated another major Square game. I've played FFIV, FFVI, CT, and SoM, and I can personally vouch that the English translation style is significantly different FFIV and FFVI, and that FFVI, CT, and SoM have smoother language, indicating a better translation job. Personally, I'd like to see the Ghosts of the Magi -- the souls of warriors from the old war, so heavily infused with magic that even death and a milennium's slumber weren't enough to keep them sealed once the world was ruined. They're angry to be awakened, and angrier that humanity never learned its lesson. Some would be nearly human (possibly a human-sheep hybrid named Woolsey?), others would have become incredible beasts (which is where the Czar Dragon might tie in).

whoo hoo for the Woosly hate bandwagon? I seriously dont understand, really, the language was changed due to censorship(you can thank Nintendo for that one), some of the names were cut down to reduce size so they could be fully spelled out instead of being half of words (Atma, the hinduist word for "soul"), or a play on letters (fenix, sounds like Phoenix). Honestly, you people are too harsh on translators. You dont like their translation job, go get a Jap pack and play it, stop complaining.
