When the game first came out, Gwyneth Paltrow was the new thing, and I remember thinking, "WOW, she looks just like Celes!" (I've always had a fondness for Gwyneth Paltrow because of that, even though I don't particularly like her movies.)
Anyway, I was reading celebrity gossip this morning, and then got bored of it and settled in to play some FF6. As the starting FMV played (I have the PSX version), I let it play a little while and when I saw Celes running along in the opera house, I had a very BAD realization. Her current celebrity lookalike is Paris Hilton. ![]() This is an extremely bad thing for me, because I always name Celes "Liv" after myself. Now I have to imagine Celes looking at Edgar with one eye half closed and saying in a half-drunk, half-babytalk voice, "I'm, like a soldier, not some, like, love starved twit. That's not hot." It's just her weird FMV likeness that looks like Paris, not the character portrait. ETA: I failed to mention that I strongly dislike Paris Hilton. What bothers me the most about her is that she's very sexually promiscuous, yet will state herself that she is "bored" by sex. She has sex with other women's boyfriends just to do it, just to prove that she is "better." I could understand it more if you were going around to sleep with lots of men because you ENJOY doing the act (I think Lindsay Lohan falls in this type.) But she perpetuates the myth that we can't or don't enjoy sex, but only do it to get things we want. And that my friends, is the definition of a hooker. So in her case, she IS a love-starved twit. Or at least a twit. This post has been edited by yunakitty on 21st September 2006 22:32 -------------------- Kupo! |

I won't be able to view Celes in the same light ever again.

Amano's designs definitely aren't for everybody.

I prefer to think of her as a Gwyneth lookalike, still

^^Agreed. Most of Amano's fans are art connoseurs (unlike other game designers, Amano is based out of New York City and often holds exhibitions in Chelsea galleries).

Wait, didn't Celes's Amano art have her dressed in a yellow suit that was reminiscent of Uma Thurman's suit in Kill Bill?

Yes, her outfit in the game is actually different than her outfit in her conceptual designs.
But I never thought about the Kill Bill thing. Huh. -------------------- |

The celes in the PSX FMV is an ugly celes it's a bad 3d version fo the amano art, don't take in too much consideration within the FMV.
Celes definately has more of a gwyneth Paltrow look and defiantely not paris Hilton if you look at the amano art there is a very distinct difference, celes has a figure. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Indeed, it's like the Sean Connery thing again. Celes Amano-style came first, not Uma Thurman's Kill Bill outfit.

Actually the outfit Uma thurman wore in kill bill was origonally worn by Bruce Lee, just refigured for a female.
Who knows why they chose to have her wear Bruce Lee's suit. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Quote Who knows why they chose to have her wear Bruce Lee's suit. Well when Bruce Lee was The Fist of Fury, he fought those Japanese students. And they wanted to make something like that for the Kill Bill movies. so Uma had to fight the Japanese Yukaza gang. oh yea. and most of the moves Uma did was kinda like Bruce Lee's moves. like when she was rolling around on the floor cutting their feets and legs the same goes with Bruce lee. He hits the Japs with his nunchucks while on the ground. and yea. i can't see Paris Hilton looking like Celes. ![]() This post has been edited by Anh on 23rd September 2006 14:02 |

I don't have the PSX version of the game, but I have seen what Celes looks like in them. Personally, I think she kinda resembles country music superstar, Faith Hill. Well, at least a little bit.

I ignore the whole PSX version of the game cause they only showed the back of the head of the greatet FF character ever...Locke. To me Celes (unless they make a respectable remake) will always be more something of a Jessica Simpson...only with brains and talent.

its probably only me, but when i saw gwenyth paltrow in shallow hal, i immediately thought of quistis from ff8. however, i think she could also pass for a pretty celes

Thing about Gwenyth Paltrow that is holding her back as a potential Celes is her...how do I say it...her lack of...assets. Jessica Simpson would be better but better get a voiceover for her though.

I definitely see the Uma Thurman in Kill Bill thing way more than anyone else! I love to think of Celes as a killing machine because she's so beautiful and thoughtful and powerful!

Yuna Kitty,
I agree with the Celes/ Paris thing. I saw some pics recently and your right. Funny thing is I used that as a answer for my new quiz, Paris is the answer to get Celes on one of the questions. Anyway point being, thank you. You were an insperation for me. |
