It's lucky VP2 and Tales of Abyss come out around the same time...
But yes, I am looking forward to it. It's certainly worth the annoying wait they've made moving it back... -------------------- |

Final Fantasy III was made in 1990. Like, right before the Super Famicom (the SNES) arose. It just wouldn't be profitable to localize two more NES games when the SNES is at the height of popularity. Therefore, they just released Final Fantasy IV in North America as 'Final Fantasy II' as to not confused people (unfortunately, many people seem confused about this even today).
Anyway, I was more annoyed at the seemingly inexplicable decision to just move back the release date to November. Though, looking at Advent Children, I shouldn't be too surprised. This post has been edited by Zeromus_X on 4th October 2006 01:10 -------------------- |

Well regardless of how far it got pushed back and the financial problems Square had back in the day...I can't wait. I played this game quite a few years back on emu and it was quite good for being such an old game. I'll almost go as far as to say that it rivals V; but that's just my opinion...
I wanna play it all the way through remade so I can give it a real rating. This post has been edited by w00tah86 on 5th October 2006 04:11 -------------------- " Video Games are bad for you? That's what they said about Rock 'N' Roll. " -- Shigeru Miyamoto |

EVen though FFIIInes often had situations where you had no idea where to go, it was still very fun.
Had some higher difficulty battles than most FFs I really can't wait for FFIIIDS -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I am totally looking forward to this. Playing FFIII on a touch screen, cool. The number of games coming out that I am looking forward to have increased, while my pay has stayed the same.

$130 is a pretty good deal considering the grand library of games the DS has. Well, it's certainly not $600...

a used DS only costs 100 or less depending on the store.
and used consoles aren't that bad, if the store is trustworthy you can get a good quality DS for 100 (that's what i did) -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Me and my boyfriend went out for Pizza last night, and in the corner was a TV streaming commercials from EB Games. I almost felt bad, because every time the FFIII promo came on all my attention snapped to the tv. I have to say, the cutscenes are remarkable. Chocobos, Airships, Crystals... It combined the familiarity of the old games with a new, sleek look. I think square knows their market on this one. I'm definatly buying it, if at least to fill the hole in my life that square created when it abandoned Nintendo and me.

Quote I am very much looking forward to it apparently its being released in America in November but what about Europe? A while ago, Gamespot said that it would be out in Europe in September, and the U.S in November. My friend and I were ecstatic - finally a game released in Europe before America! Unfortunately, Gamespot then changed it to Spring 2007. Another 3 or 4 months of waiting then. |

My friend and I were ecstatic - finally a game released in Europe before America! Heh. Europe's greatest triumph over the US in terms of released games will always be the fact that they got Terranigma back in the day, while the US only got the first two games in the Soul Blazer trilogy. Of course, you guys never got the SNES versions of Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG, so maybe it's not such a great triumph. And yes, I'm pretty pumped for this game. Not only will I be playing it legally, I'll be playing it with some very intriguing new work done on it. -------------------- |

They...moved it back for Europe? That seriously sucks. I'd consider importing the NA version if I were in that situation.

I'm psyched about this game and I'm definitely getting it, it's the only FF I have yet to play, though, I should finish playing XII first...

Quote Two more days, guys. I was just about to say that. I'm not even sure i want to wait that long. I also hope people who pre-ordered won't get all store copies (although I doubt it'll be that big on the first day). Well down in San Diego, They have been shipment issues, so no store has stocked their shelves with it yet.
Pain in the ass if you ask me. I'll try again on the weekend, although the store manager told me that the stores were in agreement to stock tomorrow. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I picked it up earlier today, and I am very much enjoying it. I like how they organized the beginning with introducing each character and obtaining the jobs, and how everything looks and sounds and oh yes I love it.
Some changes: The characters have backstories and unique character designs. But I think we all know this by now. You start alone as Luneth and then pick up the characters as you go along the beginning areas, finally recruiting everyone to fight Possible spoilers: highlight to view and then obtain the jobs from the Wind Crystal. Before obtaining the jobs, the party starts off as Freelancers, fighters who can use basic equipment and magic, but have low initial stats. Djinn And speaking of jobs, the Capacity Point system is eliminated in favor of 'job adjustment periods', a certain number of battles a character must go through before adjusting to their new vocation. During this number of battles (which you are specified of), the stats of the character who just changed thier job are decreased. This should ensure you aren't going wild and changing jobs like mad. Some of the jobs have new abilites beyond the basic 'attack', and 'defend' like some classes were stuck with in the original. The Monk has a new ability, 'Retaliate', where he guards and strikes back any attacking enemy, the Warrior has 'Advance' which seems to be a powerful attack, and every class has the 'Equipment' (change equipment with this, instead of the tedious item menu), 'Front' and 'Rear' rank adjustment commands, and yes, every job has the 'Run Away' command. Monsters are no longer appear en masse as they did before. I've only encountered two to three monsters tops, as they only appear in one row as does the party. However, the encounter rate seems higher than it was in the original game, making up for this. Don't worry, the challenge hasn't been erased as bosses are now even more difficult. They get multiple turns to do as they wish (whether it be, say, attacking Refia immediately after I've used a Phoenix Down to revive her, and then cast Fire on the entire party). Properly translated spell (Blindna in your face!!) names and equipment. Yay. However, the romanizations of some names are different than the fan translation (at least, the Neo Demiforce hack I played), which may disturb some who have to get adjusted to these changes. Fortunately, all of them are perfectly acceptable romanizations and not flat out different names (Desh is now Desch, for example). The party members who followed you around in the original may help during battles. It generally happens to be every four or five battles or so. The different characters do different things (Sara can cast a Cure spell, Cid smacks the enemy over the head with his hammer, Desch fries two avian beasts with Thundara, and so on). The Mognet feature is added. With the Nintendo WiFi connection you can link up with a friend to send them messages. This is the only way to unlock the Possible spoilers: highlight to view , but I'm not anywhere near them yet, so I won't worry about it.Onion Swordsman class and the Iron Giant superboss Granted, some of you probably already knew all this, but this should be useful for anyone that wasn't aware. Now go and buy the game now Tria-dammit. -------------------- |

Excellent review, Zeromus. You might want to save that somewhere for that day in 2010 when CoN reveals its coverage of FFIII and you want to add to the main site.
Now I'm tempted to finally get a DS Lite and then gorge on all the RPG's I've skipped. -------------------- Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle. |

I picked this up yesterday, after looking all over town and only finding it at one tiny shop downtown. Apparently there have been shipping problems to pretty much everywhere.
Anywho, it's pretty much one of the better RPG's I've played in the last long while. It feels like the old NES game, but prettier and only improved upon. I don't really have a lot to add to what Zeromus_X said, but just wanted to say: BUY THIS NOW (if you have a DS) -------------------- With the lights out It's less dangerous |
