So I thought I had done everything right, but I still cant get the Final Attack materia. From what I had thought, this should be the requirements to get it:
1) Obtain omnislash
2) Obtain W-Summon
3) Beat "story line" Proud Clod
4) Return to Battle Square to beat a higher level difficulty of battles to win the Final Attack Materia.

Just incase there is an actual order to these, I thought Id let you know that I obtained omnislash and w-summon very early in the second disk. I thought It was possible to get the Final Attack materia then, but then I realized it was necessary to get to the end of disk 2. Being hooked on getting my Mega-All materia, I ventured deep into the crater, made the save point at the "first meeting area" got my mega all, magic counter and w-magic, returned to the save point, saved, left the crater and went to Golden Saucer. I spent an hour racing S-class chocobos, let Cid ride quite a bit. Made 4002 GP so that I could buy Exp Plus x2 only to realize I can only purchase one. I then remembered the Final Attack materia, so I played about 4 rounds of battles, but never did I get the higher difficulty battles.

Did I do something wrong? Am I too far into the game to get the Final Attack materia?

Sounds like you did everything fine. It's definatly not because you're too far in the game. You know you have to win a round of battles before they offer the special ones yeah? If you have done that then I'm not really sure why you can't.

you're definately not 'too far' i only just got it in my 'good' game after getting everything done except the weapons. just keep trying. i got it after a couple battles into it

Ill try to do a few battles first. I did try one battle, won it all the way through, then tried it a second time and noticed the same batch of enemies so i simply ran from battle, saved, and turned off the game to sleep. Ill try a few more battles. If that doenst work, Ill let you know.

I believe, and I may be wrong because I haven't done this in years, that you must obtain Omnislash and W-Summon, and then build your BP up to maximum again before being offered the "special battle"

So I have been playing non-stop BattleSquare since my last post.
I earned up to 65000 BP (is this the cap?) I tried to purchase W-Summon and it said "We are currently out of this prize" just like it should have because I already have it. Then I tried to purchase omnislash and I got the same response. Now that I had confirmed that I won both of those items, I went back to the hostest and regestered for another battle and still no special battle. I beat that battle round, an when I came out I still had 65000 BP. Thats why Im assuming that the cap. Then I purchased one of every item available took me down to around 45000 BP. I then went back to battle, won a few, and still no special battle or final attack materia. I now have about 54000 BP.

Just in case Lenny is correct, I will keep battling until Im sure Ive hit maximum BP limit.

You definitely DO NOT have to max out your BP to get it. If you don't have Ultima Weapon, you won't be able to cue the special battle invitation. Whether or not you have to have it equipped, I don't know, but it has to be in your inventory at the very least.

Just to back up Shotgunnova's post, you don't need to have Ultima Weapon equipped to cue the battle. I've done it with the Buster Sword. I didn't know that you needed to have it in your inventory though that's news to me.

Hmmm,
I have to admit Ive never heard of needing Ultima Weapon to get the battle before, but to be honest, Ive never gotten the Final Attack materia before. I was hoping to use the Final Attack materia for the Weapon fights cause I was going to take them on without major lvling of my characters. Well, Ill see how badly I get slaughtered. =)

I beat Weapon to get the Ultima Sword, went straight to Battle Square and sure enough she asked me if I was interested in the special battle.

Just for kicks, I thought Id let you know it felt like cheating. All I needed was ultima weapon, hp plus, mime, and 4x cut. Every swing was 9999 and none of the monsters in the special battle had a chance. Maybe for the fun of it I should try the battle without the Ultima Weapon.

That's because Cloud is the only one that can joy Special Battle Square, that's why you need exactly the Ultima Weapon, that is the ultimate weapon of Cloud. =)

It sounds like you could fight the Weapons without Final Attack. They're a lot easier than they first appear. Still, good job on getting the materia!
