Just a quick question.

is it possible, having entered the crater and began the decent into the center of the earth, to then exit the crater, with the items, experience, materia etc that can only be found down there.

for example i am trying to master all magic materia in order to get master magic materia... however, magic materia such as shield can only be attained in the crater. as far as i am aware.

if you can get out, how...

can anyone help me out here?

It depends. If you've already entered the 'point of no return' (the lifestream-ish green area with the Jenova music playing), you cannot go back. However, if you're still in the normal crater, you can exit by going back to the entrance and there will be a path to the right I believe which you can go through and leave the crater.

Oh yeah, and the Magic Pots are the best place for Exp/AP if you have enough Elixirs/enjoy using W-Item.

For the love of god don't use your Save Crystal in the area where you speak to your party again and choose who goes each of the ways. This gets you caught in a horrendous glitch.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. And, it'd also be a good idea to not use it beyond the point of no return. I usually put it in the Magic Pot area.

*pokes head in* Oh, really? What glitch is that? I've never done it, and now that you've said that I won't, but what does it do if you are foolish/careless enough to do so?

*usually puts her save point on or close to the very last screen before the point of no return*

More to the OP - there's actually quite a lot of fun you can have with the Crater. Not just the mad EXP/AP you get from the Magic Pots, but you can also get duplicate items by backtracking before you reunite with your party. If you play it right you can get two Imperial Guards, and that's just kind of awesome.

You can also get one more Mystile than intended. smile.gif

But yeah, often, when the Save Crystal is used there, the game won't allow you to climb up the pillar to the above floors, effectively trapping you in the crater. Not good. I don't know what versions this is limited to, or if it's in the PC version at all.

Regardless of all this you can make a save outside the crater just incase. So it's no problem even if you do get stuck. Ahh the wonders of the FF series.
