          So yeah.

We've got threads for favorite comedy, favorite 80's flick, favorite western and favorite gory movie. No category, however, for the martial arts, and I think that's a damn shame. So here it is, then. Post the one that tops your list, grasshoppers. For me, it's Jackie Chan's Legend of Drunken Master, quite possibly the most astounding martial arts film I've ever seen. Insane footwork, axe gangs cutting down houses, and a drunken Jackie Chan tornado'ing through it all with his knack for humor and jaw-dropping acrobatics. It's brilliant! I agree completely with Lothar, Jackie Chan's performance in this movie is absolutely astounding, as are the performances of every one of the extras and random people. The story was very well done, the acrobatics were perfected, and, of course, as Lothar mentioned, Jackie Chan threw his own brand of humor and fun into the movie.

Overall the BEST martial arts movie I've seen in a while. -------------------- "Oh shut up. Ong-bak the Thai Warrior, without a doubt. Tony Jah was absolutely incredible in that movie, doing stunts I never would've dreamed of (e.g. jumping through a coil of barbed wire mid-chase, doing a split/sliding underneath a moving car, etc.), and the entire movie went without using any stunt doubles at all. He smashed a bike helmet with his kneee while somebody was still wearing it, lit himself on fire, hit a few people in the head with a lead pipe, and punched somebody through a wall, and all without any stunt doubles at all. Nor special effects. They really got hit.

Honorable mention to Chan's Drunken Master and Kung Fu Hustle, just because they're hilarious. -------------------- Is PJ |

I've never seen that! Where'd you find it?

Also, a funny, funny martial arts movie: Kung POW! Enter the Fist! Also, Jackie Chan's The Medallion, it was just great (from what I remember) Can't forget Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Awesome movie. Oh, and Jet Li's Unleashed That movie is nuts, Jet Li may possibly be THE top martial artist movie star out there (Sorry, Jackie, but it's true) -------------------- "Oh shut up. Nice Topic. I'm going to have to go with a top 5.

      5. Enter the Dragon- Bruce Lee. Jim Kelly. They don't make 'em like this anymore. 4. Once Upon a Time in China- Great mix of fighting and plot. 3. Hero- Although not as heralded as other recent martial arts movies, I absolutely love the way Hero is told, plus I love movies that end somewhat controversially. 2. Twin Warriors- The plot and dialogue are so bad it's funny, but the fighting in this movie is amazing. At one point Jet Li decides to dispatch a troop of soldiers using just his head. 1. Return of the Dragon- Come on now, the last fight is Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris. There will never be a more epic battle. -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

Return of the Dragon, some early Jackie Chan movies, The Prisoner, and Kung Fu Hustle, and Crouching Tiger. Unleashed looks cool but I haven't seen it, yet.

Gotta be something by Jackie Chan. Martial arts action + hilarity by Jackie Chan = awesomeness.

I didn't like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon that much; the plot was kinda disappointing although the action was cool. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. It'd be useless to post a list because mine will just get too long and in some cases too obscure. I will say that I just saw Jet Li's Fearless yesterday, and the fight scenes were very, very well done and the movie was pretty creative and varied in its martial arts. Check it out, for sure.

I thought the sequel to Legend of Drunken Master was better than the original, but the original is pretty solid.

I'm a Stephen Chow fanboy - Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer are probably my top two favorite martial arts movies. The action is great, the characters are fun, and they're both absolutely hilarious. I totally reccomend both to any and all movie fans, but Kung Fu Hustle is probably the more watchable and accessible film. -------------------- |

I have to agree, I was very entertained. I love the scene with Jackie cleaning the floor and the master(or whoever he is) keeps trying to drty it up. Also enter the Dragon and the game of death. Enter the Dragon is a classic, everyonje loves the climactic scene this, many people favor it. Game of Death is an interesting movie since it was never finished, but still released. I love how the fight scenes in the movie portray lee's philosphy on martial arts. The form of no form. Always loved the fight with Lee and Kareem. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Haven't seen this one yet, but I make it a point of renting it next chance I get. Epic showdowns are the things I thrive on in my movies. And speaking of epic, has anyone heard about the movie Jackie Chan and Jet Li plan to do next year? They're supposedly doing it once Chan is finished with Rush Hour 3. This is the matchup I've been waiting for for a long time! -------------------- You are not your username. You are not your avatar. You are not the number of posts you have. I liked Gorgeous, which is another Jackie Chan film. I'm not sure that it's particularly martial arts, being kick-boxing and all... but. Favourite psuedo action movie.

Never before and never again will I ever see a junk-fu movie as awesome as this one. To quote: Quote Heads asplode. Eyes are knocked out. When injured, our hero reaches into his arms and ties the tendons together and heals himself. I'd heard the stories but when I had the pleasure of actually witnessing the spectacle for myself thanks to a teacher with an eye for the cult flicks and a cool idea on how to spend a after-test break day, it didn't even begin to describe. -------------------- |
