I've seen an array of editors out now for FF6 recently, and I was just wondering if it was possible to create your own characters, items, sidequests, enemies, etc... I tried (being totally ignorant of what i was doing) editing some items/enemies to make things a tad harder and more of a challenge for myself. I ended up screwing the ENTIRE map's pallette of the WoR, turning every block into a mountain block. Weird glitches occured after that... walking through water... freezing when entering/leaving towns, and so on. I was just wondering if any of this was possible using the correct patching methods and editing resources to create your own. (I tried creating Gatsu from the anime Berserk

Obsessed, huh? Â Prepare yourself for the horrors of not having a life!
![]() The Unoriginal White Sheet - Shameless self-promotion. Â Any FF3/6j monster creator should know about this place and/or Terii's site. Â I don't offer all of the data, just stuff that wasn't available when I posted it. Â Still the only place with any real info on graphic animations, though. Â Oh, yeah, and if you want to see what some of the possibilities are, check the patches out. Â Just don't expect to be cranking things like Golbeze and Image out too soon. Â Those took a lot of script code and a lot of 65816 assembly work. Terii Senshi's RPG Page - If you want to put in new monster sprites, she made a good program for that, but there's also a TON of info on the game, from the Algorithms FAQ (it's not wrong, trust me, all of it comes out of code research) to her C2 bank disassembly, where a lot of the battle code is stored. Â She's also got a zip with a nice load of 65816 assembly documents if you reach the point where game engine hacks and newer, much more different spells are called for. Lord J's page - You've probably seen this one already. Â There's an updated, albeit text-formatted, offsets compendium here if you're interested. Â Don't forget about J's new sprite editor either. Â I don't think it handles monsters yet though (it damn well should, the bum!). ![]() Phantasian Productions - Cless made an FF6 hacking doc long ago that still has some goodies in it (it is HTML-ized for quick access at least). Â This was when I first publically entered the FF3/6j ROM hacking scene, as you can see in that small list of credits. Â I take great pride in being one of the first to crack the enemy command script (and the first to create a FF6 monster with more than 65535 HP, but that's another convo). Â Oh yeah, check back from time to time, he said he has an updated doc from Yousei/Flobby that he may or may not upload one of these days. Â I also visit their boards if you ever happen to check it out. ![]() Hopefully you also know about FF3ED (this has been known to be slightly buggy during saving, especially with the maps, beware). Â Grab it here if you don't have it. If you're looking for more patches to take cues from, my pal Shark has a compendium of patches for your D/L'ing pleasure. Â I'm not responsible for what you may see there though, he did make that one nude hack for Celes (and he likes to link the patches with pics last I checked)... egh. Â This is why I don't usually plug the compendium, that and his damn popup menu obsession. Â Turn off the pop-up killers and turn on the Javascript if you click that link. I'm probably missing something... surely not... but oh well. Â Some of those links I threw out for anyone else who reads this thread, because I know what that "array of editors" line means but not everyone may know about them all. I just hope you know a LOT on how to play the game too. Â If your monster can't stand up to Retort/Imp, or as it's known at GameFAQs, Psycho Cyan, for example, you just might hear about it. Â And if you don't know what that is, check Terii's site. Â She didn't make the fix for it AND explain the glitch in detail for nothing. ![]() EDIT: One last bit, if you don't know how to use a hex editor, now's a good time to learn how. My recommendations are A.X.E. (search the web) and/or Hex Workshop. I do NOT recommend writing enemy scripts in FF3usME, although for an unhacked game it is perfectly okay for viewing (if you aren't completely reliant on its explanations, I suggest Terii's command doc be open as well when viewing since Lord J isn't completely accurate). You should definitely stick to a hex editor for writing scripts. As for tutorials, try The Respository and Zophar's Domain for those. -------------------- |
