I'm looking to collect FF 1-6 and Chrono Trigger on snes and psx. I was wondering, when they include FMV cutscenes in the psx remakes, are they inserted into the original game or do they replace parts of the original game?
For example, I know in the snes version of FF6, it shows Celes finding Locke's bandana. Does the FMV for this scene in the psx version replace the little sprites acting it out, or is it just insterted? I'd like to know if there is any particular omissions of parts of the original games in their psx releases before I buy them. Also, are there any notable differences between the Square and Square-Enix versions? Thanks for your help! -------------------- Status: FF6 -- Finished! Yeah! The FMVs don't replace the original in-game scenes, rather, they're either showed before/after you beat the game/or are unlocked. FFVI (at least in the US Anthology) has all the unlockable FFV/VI media when you complete FFVI and save a system file.
As far as I know, they're the same (Greatest Hits or not). FFV and VI have minor loading times (just up the amp on your PS2's system settings if you're playing on a PS2) and FFIV only has loading times for saving or loading hard data. Chrono Trigger, on the other hand... Origins has virtually no loading times. -------------------- |

Hey, that's awesome. Thanks for all of the info. By the way, I'm not playing on a PS2, I have a 1997 PS.

Well, if your PS1 is in good condition, it should be okay (and if you take care of your games it should be even better), but some of the load times may be a bit aggravating if you've played the original (instantaneous loading from cartridge) versions. But overall, it isn't that bad. If you had a PS2 they wouldn't be a big problem though.
Still, we can't complain about classic FFs. ![]() -------------------- |

My PS is in good gondition. In fact, dust seems to slow the laser down more than scratches. My previously owned copy of FF8 is used and covered with scratches but an FMV hasn't skipped yet. In fact, once my pristine copy of FF7 (bought brand new, and I'm obsessive-compulsive about being careful with things) crashed because it was dusty (it was funny, I was flying around the world map, the screen blacked out, and a smiley face with x's for eyes appeared. It totaly freaked me out.) I rinsed the disk with water and it never happened again.
I'm playing through FF6 now on Supernintendo, but I'm kind of used to waiting for things to load after playing FF7 and FF8. -------------------- Status: FF6 -- Finished! Yeah! That's good. There shouldn't be a problem then.
