I know I'll be garotted for this but theres two spaces left. Now Explain to me why Square put two extra places there? Could it be they were planning on a few characters that just didn't make it? Absurd that it would be Ghestal, because he was fried by Kefka but who would you place in those spots?

Leo - Great character, but it undermines the plot slightly.
Sqaure may have considered using him, as he was one the subjects that was animated by amano.

Cid- Possible.

Siegfried - Completely un-important to the game, but he would be a cool character to have. Somewhat the same story with gogo and umaro...they aren't important.

Bannon - sucked.

Ghestal- No. He was a monster.

I never really thought about the extra 2 spaces! I could think of one character that's not really important to the plot, but would be a cool character to have. The Ghost from the Phantom Train would be a good asset to the team. You could possess monsters and the Ghost would go straight back to the ship when you used it, but can't use it if it's the only member in your party!

I know it will never happen, would be cool thought if they did that for the GBA version of FFVI that's coming out soon! That would be tight!!!

When I played the game the first time through, i thought for sure i'd get general Leo until he died.

At first I thought Sqaure decided to kill in mid production. Thing you have to remeber is every character you get in your party you can name yourself. So it in a way undermines my theory, but perhaps square would have allowed you to name him early in the game. If you talk the rich girl in south figaro she claims "My daddy had lunch with general Leo." Now, this i beleive was before you even get sabin so he's mentioned before you actually see him. Thus Knocking him out. That also knocks out cid and bannon, and ghestal.

I think Siegfried would have been a good character to add. If Ziegfried and Siegfried were infact different people, it would allow some leway on this.


The bottom line is I can't remember a Final Fantasy where the person's name was mentioned before you've had a chance to alter it. I may be incorrect, but it seems like a tradition. It wouldn't be Final Fantasy without it. Thing is theres two slots, and i think square was toying with some sort 3rd and 4th secret character. If they did some work on the game they could allow general Leo to escape against Kefka but that would alter the storey slightly, will not underminding Kefkas Evil entirely. You have to remember though that Kefka always had it out for Leo. He is the EXACT opposite of KEFKA. Honorable, Un-magitek augmented, compassionate, and patient.

Obviously the worst secret character rumors were started because of this, and for the most part fans at one time wanted to get leo, because they had a taste of his power.

As for the ghost...that would be fun, but it would be useless, if you had to go to the airship everytime to recover it. It would however work with the naming tradition. Not quite a player friendly char though.

Yeah, but they could add something like if he possess the last enemy in the battle, the Ghost recieves all the experience from the entire battle and goes to the ship. Not a bad trade, no?

I don't think that there was any intention of adding extra characters -- that's just the way the box was shaped. Still, if I could add two [plausible] characters to the party, they would be:

Leo: By the end of the World of Balance, it seems that Leo has come to your way of thinking, even though he is still a subject of the Empire. Had Kefka not murdered him, I think that he would've joined your side not to stop the Empire but to stop Kefka. We already know what Leo's special ability is: Shock. I think it would be inappropriate for him to learn magic, since he refused an infusion earlier in the game.

Siegfried: He would just be a novelty character, like Mog, Umaro, and Gogo. He should have some sword-related special skill, given his propensity to brag about his swordsmanship. And maybe he'd finally give you the treasure he took from the Phantom Train.

FYI, there is no Ziegfried. When you meet Siegfried in the World of Ruin, he claims that the Siegfried you met is really an impostor named Ziegfried. However, there is no evidence to suggest that Siegfried is telling the truth. (He often says things that aren't true, mostly about his own skills.)

Two characters I would add to the party would probably be Gestahl and Leo. Gestahl because of the magic he posessed in the Floating Continent (He tried to cast Merton even though it did not hit Kefka). Finally Leo because when Kefka came to Thamasa, you could fight with Leo and he had Shock which was a pretty neat technique and it looked like it was pretty powerful! Maybe Kefka (due to his magic) but he's alot on the crazy side.

You don't get to name Magus in Crono Trigger until you get him, this prevents you from knowing he would join(Unless you got the PS version, or read it somewhere else)

Siegfried : Is a possible choice.

Kafka: No, Main Villian will not join the party to kill himself (Unfortulay)

Banon: Not one I'm Intreasted in.

Ghestal: Unless Relm Brings his picture to live, No.

Leo: Dead. No.

?????: I Never used the Ghost before, so it might be fun.

Vicks & Wedge : These two I woundered what happened to them. I assumed they were dead, but it might be interesting to see how they fight without Magitek. My choice.

True, but that's not how it works in FF6. With the exception of Mog, you get to name all playable characters when they're first mentioned, even if you don't get to play them immediately (e.g., Shadow and Setzer). The only reason that you don't name Terra immediately is that when you meet her, she has total amnesia due to the Slave Crown.

Actually Mog was an exception, and so I really don't beleive that they intended to Kill off General Leo to begin with, He may have just not made it into the final cut for characters or perhaps they intended for him to be ABLE to survive. I think they ment to have him as a Playing character. As for ghestal not likely. He was a peice of crap. Enless Relm brought him to life. Which would be cool.

Kefka- Why the hell would they do that?

I'd have to say Banon for his ability to restore life and Gestahl for his ability to crush it. He was the emperor, after all.

Also, it would have been interesting to have seen what 'skills' Daryl would have had to run counter to Setzer's 'luck'. Airship tools as weapons, maybe a remote uplink to the Falcon, who knows? I love her.

Yeah. When shopping (or somewhere else, if I'm not remembering correctly) there aren't two extra spaces.

Whenever you have to sort your characters into three different groups, the group boxes fill the entire width of the screen. It just so happens that that width is equal to 7 character sprites.


If I could GET two more characters, I'd definitely have to go with Banon and Leo.

If you've ever done the Lete River trick to get yourself to level 99, you'd notice that Banon's Health command can heal your entire party somewhere around 6000+ HP for free. Hell, I'd trade a character with a useless special skill for Banon anyday (Celes, cough cough).

As for Leo, his Shock ability is actually garbage (it doesn't do more than 2500 damage. Ever. Try an AutoCrossbow if you want heavy damage to all enemies), but the Aegis Shield and Offering you could pick off of him would be incredibly helpful. Plus, at the time you get him, his four upgradable stats (Vigor, Speed, Stamina, Mag. Pwr) are far higher than any of your other characters. Imagine if you could continue upgrading him.

If you HONESTLY think about it, look at the freakkin chracter group creation screen people!!! COMMON there two extra spots open because they couldnt do 12 sprites total or else there wouldnt be any white lines showing the division of the parties, seriously if you dont know these white lines you are either blind or you need physco treatment, but if im not correct then id have to say Leo.....and....uhh....hmmm..............................................................................................................Iuno.
