I just downloaded a rom hacker and I accidentally gave Edgar the 'steal' command and now my favorite character is useless I tried changing it back to 'tools' but no... nothing happend. If he leaves my party and comes back will he have a his tools again? Or will I just have to start over... (I didn't notice he had steal instead of tools until just before the returner's hideout )

start your game over, Edgar should have tools.
The reason that you always see steal is that in your savestate he has steal.

Well if you're only at the returner's hideout there shouldn't be much of a problem starting over. If you're using SNES9x you can even hold in the Tab key to speed the game up and make it much much quicker until you get back to where you were.

Yeah I know I'm not too far in the game. But it's just that the beginning part in Narshe is so boring.

When I was changing my characters' abilities in the ROM itself, they would not change in-game. The ability info in the ROM is only used when the character first joins up, as far as I know. So if you had an earlier save from, say, just outside of Figaro, you should be able to remedy it fairly easily. However, if not, you should just restart, as he has steal permanently now.

If it were me, I would just start over because you aren't that far into the game and better to do it now than later.

If you're using Zsnes you could probably find a savestate editor,
If you're using Snes9x you'll definately have to sart over it doesn't have savestate editors.

Like i said before Edgar just has Steal n your savestate (that is if you changed it back to tools in the rom)

Thanks everyone I started over and I switched Edgar back to tools. By the way, that editor thing is so much fun! Sabin randomly learned Imp and he didn't have an esper or anything. I have no clue what I did

You can speed up ZSNES with the `(~) key.

I've been through the beginning of the game so many times I get sick of it. I always wanted a perfect game but it took me 12 years to finally achieve what I wanted.
