Because we obviously haven't been spoiled nor teased well enough yet, the folks at Square-Enix have kindly dropped a new Final Fantasy III DS promotional movie - shown exclusively in Japanese retail stores until now - right onto us, and it hurts so good (be sure to click "MOVIE" after the intro).
Among the images and scenes depicted, the CG video offers us a short glimpse of the characters' physical alterations when in the guise of their different job classes, and although a very small portion of the video is dedicated to actual gameplay footage, the real bulk contains cutscenes and impressive FMV. Movie Screenshots Secondly, for those looking forward to the next Dragon Quest/Warrior Monsters title, Square-Enix has additionally unloaded a rather generous helping of screens honoring the Nintendo DS's upcoming Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. Of the same league as Pokémon, the Dragon Quest/Warrior Monsters series allows players to fight with and against a variety of monsters that are reared like pets - a practice that, in the real world, would surely make one legally unfit to care for even a sea monkey. Joker, as previously announced, will be the very first of its type to feature online play, ultimately leading to creature swapping and GP tournaments (where players have their monsters battle other players') on a global scale. So far, the separate release dates for Final Fantasy III DS have been delayed at least three times, making the current schedule set for August 24th in Japan, September in Europe, and November in North America. As for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, no solid Japanese date has yet been established, and no word on a possible Western launch has been so much as mentioned. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Oh my god! They gave the onionkids NAMES XD
But seriously, I find what was shown beautiful, and I personally like finally giving the characters some personality. I personally dislike giving the characters personality, unless there's some way to access the original version of the game somewhere in the new version.
I hope they have that kind of unlockable feature--like how beating Metroid Prime (or was it linking Prime and Fusion) could unleash the original Metroid game. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. holy crap, III looks AMAZING. I didn't thiink it was possible to get such screens on a DS. It looks like a lot of job classes, which is good, though the design for the dragoon looks bad

Yeah, I thought that was old news. How can anyone complain about giving the main characters personalities? Seriously. It's Final Fantasy III. Be reasonable.
Of course, you'll get them all in time for the Jinn Cave anyway. Anyway, FFIII DS will probably take up most of my life this fall. (or Winter, knowing SE.) -------------------- |

Quote (Shinrin @ 2nd August 2006 08:36) So where does November come in for FF3 DS? Square has the date for it in September according to there site. Also I've heard the 12th of september as the release date. for some sites. The launch data on Square's official page hasn't been updated in quite a while; that September 12th release date (North America) was never etched in stone, and there've been all those delays. Just a few weeks ago, for example, Square-Enix specified the NA date as being October 3rd before pushing it even farther back to November. Plus, it's a li'l confusing seeing as plenty of websites still have the incorrect date listed. Right now, one of the most recently updated lists is the one from GameFAQs. Looks good. I'm glad they showed some of the in-game graphics along with the FMVs.
III is the only regular numbered game I never beat so I don't know that much about it, but it seems like they've changed it a little bit. I remember the Onion Kids having dialogue, but I also remember their character types being very generic. Since they've named the characters and made some male and some female, are they planning to change the dialogue to match the new personalities, and is that gonna result in a change of storyline and gameplay? Or is it just going to be like DoS/Origins where the graphics are a little better but the storyline remains essentially the same? Either way, looks like it'll be a good game. |

Yes, they all have different back-stories and what-not. One of them is even female. This was done possibly because nobody today wants play a 2-dimensional character.

Heh. One of them is named "Ingus."
I seem to remember FFIII originally being about four orphaned brothers raised by the Elder. So now they have seperate backstories and two of them look female. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Yeah, and one is female, though Luneth does look a bit feminine until you take a closer look at him.

This looks pretty sweet. The graphics are excellent for a handheld! I like that they're remaking it in full, and not just a direct port with a few minor changes.
