Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth for the PSP is a re-release/remake of the PSone Valkyrie Profile. I just got it and its really sweet. I never played the original version, so this was a good opportunity to finally play it, seeing as how its very rare. The only additions that I know of are beautiful cutscenes that are done extremely well, but from what I can tell it didn't need much else.

Has anyone else played it? Either the original or the PSP version?

Yay! I'm glad you're enjoying it. As far as I know, it is identical to the original but just has hot CG cutscenes with another scene that ties it in to Silmeria.

I own the PS1 version; I don't feel like shelling out cash for a PSP just for something I already have. But it's good that it's been re-released; not everyone will pay upwards of $100 for a game, no matter how great. tongue.gif

Never played it, although I've looked far and wide for it. Found Xenogears, found Vagrant Story, never found Valkyrie Profile... Usually in these cases I'd turn to emulation for a taste, but I think my dial-up would suicide if it saw the loading time.

What's the game like?

Its an RPG, but has a very unique battle system. Basically, each of your party members is associated with a button (X, O, square, and triangle). Pressing each persons button causes them to attack, and you can combine and overlap these attacks for combos. If you hit an enemy enough times in a row, special attacks can then be unleashed.

The basis of the game is also unique. You are a Valkyrie, and you collect souls to fight in the "war in the heavens" I guess you can call it. Basically, you get people who are dead on your party, train them, and send them up to lord Odin. This way, you are constantly getting new people, and your party is always changing. This keeps the game fresh as well as intresting. The time in the game is split into chapters and periods. Each chapter has so many periods, and entering places like towns or dungeons costs periods. There are eight chapters overall to gather souls (right now I'm in chapter 2).

This is the best description I can think of right now. thumbup.gif

I had it for PSX but I never played it (not actual copy, god bless the mod chip), Im definately getting it for PSP however, not many good RPG's out there for it.

Arcnight: When you finish that one, go and check out PoPoLoCrois, it's a little on the childish side but it's an amusing adventure for PSP.

Funny you should mention that, because I have it alredy. I remember waiting for it for a while, because the PSP didn't really have any good RPGs. But I actually never played it that much. I probably will after this though, like you suggested.

The story also has no closure with the default ending; you have to do certain events and actions to get the 'good ending'. In this way, it was meant to be played twice, first with no guide, and again with a guide to get the good ending, which also gives the story excellent closure and makes it one of my favorite RPG stories.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Also, in tri-Ace fashion, a bonus dungeon is available once you beat the game (more accurately, save at the final dungeon's save point like Star Ocean 2), and you can only collect the uber-equipment and items by getting the eight (seven?) ''Flame Jewels' (or Lotus Gems, I can't remember the name) in the Hard Mode dungeons to unlock them, but you can still go through the actual dungeon without them, on any difficulty setting. You just won't get any super equipment or get the bonus characters.

Any PSP owner owes it to themselves to get their hands on this great game.

Edit: Lezard.

Finally, people I can share this comic with! Yo, TitoJackson, do you have a DS as well? Or
do you prefer to ship out with only the Psp?

Hah, that gave me a laugh. Of course, the ToP port may give it a run for it's money, if it emulates the PS1 remake...

What comic is that, A11smart?

It's RealLifeComics, by GregDean, a webcomics artist. He's had some great ones on gaming.
He can be reached at RealLifeComics, and has over 5000 strips, I think.

Here's another great one. Browsed his whole directories one time, remembering this comic
as I sat down for another playthrough Ivalice. Meingott, I still lol at this!

I really liked that one. Especially because I did the same kind of thing with divine item in valkyrie profile. Luckily I figured out the whole move-to-the-side-to-make-weapons-and-armor thing in the second chapter. Still, I wanted to punch myself. Those damn dungeon weapons break all the time! I think I went through half of the second chapter without Valkyrie having a weapon. Yeah, about 55 damage as apposed to 200 something for Arngrim. Frustrating at the least.

I figured you'd be a good survey, given that you use the Psp exclusively now, and
for the majority of its functionality.

xD That's a great comic.

Delita, you have to save those weapons with breaking percentages for enemies weak to them, and never use them normally, for magic should handle most normal enemies.

Also, here's a tip to prevent that. If you win on the first turn, the weapons won't have a chance of breaking because it checks for them to break on the opponent's turn. Mage's scepters with breaking percentages only break when they do a PWS.

Haha, yeah. It's OK because now I have good, unbreakable weapons from divine item. Thanks for the other tips, though.
