Well lets get this new forum off to a good start, who is everyone's favorite character from FF5? I picked Galuf, because there is nothing like an amnesic, grumpy, old man to save the world.

Gilgamesh > all. He was a pretty cool villian, he looked good, and he had the Genji equipment to steal as well. I really didn't like the other characters from this game at all, they were mostly pretty dumb.

My favorite of those listed was Gilgamesh...he was pretty funny and he turned out to be a decent guy for a villain. It was great how he told Faris to act more womanly, that's one of his quotes that sticks out in my mind.

Galuf's death is what pushed him to be remembered as a great character.

I didn't really like the main characters in this game, because they didn't have all that great of personality...they were kinda the 'cut and dry' heroes. But Gilgamesh rocked! His theme was the best in the game too, I wish he could have been on your side the whole way. ^^

Faris rocks! I very much like her, especially I DID GET FOOLED at the begginning, and I DID think she was a man... She's great, strong, intelligent, pretty and most of all - a pirate!

Reina is cute.
I like pink hair. Faris is a close second, and then Butz. :P Least favorite is Krile/Cara. Reina has my vote, she follows in the line of cute female leads. Though I agree with Sassy up there, cut and dried like beef jerky.

I'd be as bold to say that Gilgamesh is the ONLY cool character in FFV. Only Faris was somewhat interesting, otherwise.

Gilgamesh, undoubtedly. He wasn't too tough, but you could steal Genji stuff from him, and he was funny and cool-looking. It's also interesting to unlock that special in-battle cutscene involving him; really showed that he wasn't such a bad guy after all.
Actually, Gilgamesh was the only character I liked in all FFV. I've said it a million times (and gotten whacked by Phoenix for it, among other things), but the character development in the game was decidedly lacking. I couldn't attach to any of them, because I found them to be either stereotypes (Bartz/Butz, Reina/Rena) or not really characters at all (Krile/Cara). The ones I came closest to liking were Faris and Galuf, but the former was outdone by a terrible pirate accent in the FFA version, and the latter didn't stick around for the long haul. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Very True, this game did not provide the characters with strong personalities or development. So, I went with Reina because I liked the Idea of a ninja with a pink ponytail -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

truly said. i think part of the difficulty of the characterization was totally due to all the sweet classes, though. Â honestly. Â we never really got to see anyone's innate skills because you could always change them manually. Â in other ff games, the characters are really kind of defined by the things that they can do (ff4: Â rosa = white wizard / rydia = caller / kain = dragoon; ff6: terra = magic, locke = thief, edgar = womanizing flirt ...er...) - not only does this help us differentiate the characters, but the story always revolves around characters dealing with their special innate abilities. Â in ffv the characters lost this capability and, in my opinion, became sort of ...bland. Â it was really hard to connect with any of them - you like them, yeah, but they're not really memorable... ^^ -------------------- |

I found FFV to be a breath of fresh air because the storyline didn't revolve compleatly around the main charecters. One gets tired of charecters that stop every ten minits to pose in the wind and talk about their complicated past and love interests.
I enjoyed the party's "Get the job done" attitude, butz/bartz in particular. Its not that he was without personality (he was annoyed by the "Monkeys always look" note, and went crazy when that green haired woman in his home town was sucked into the void) its just that we don't have to hear about his emotional problems all the time. So, I'd have to say that I liked Butz the most... Then Galuf. |

How can anyone not like Faris? She is absolutely the best Final Fantasy heroine. (aside from Aeris of course Eddy -------------------- "How can there be any meaning in the memory of such a being. What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion." -- Sephiroth |
